Prosecution: Matibag will give new important information  The House of Representatives prosecution panel on July 21, 2026 urges the public to hear the testimony of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag, who will shed light on the agency's investigation into the alleged threats of Vice President Sara Duterte against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Lawyer Benjamin Tolosa Jr., prosecution spokesman and private prosecutor, said Matibag’s testimony would not only corroborate those of NBI Special Agent John Mark Calilung and Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc but would also provide the impeachment court with 'new important information.' Matibag will be the prosecution's final witness for Article IV, which pertains to grave threats. The article is largely anchored on Duterte's statements that she had instructed someone to kill the President, first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former speaker Martin Romualdez, if she were killed first. Tolosa also said the prosecution respected potential critical questions from several senator-judges when Matibag takes the witness stand on July 21. Senator-judges Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano last week criticized Matibag’s alleged intimidation tactics after the NBI said it would investigate supposed irregularities in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which the younger Cayetano sibling spearheaded under the Duterte administration.
