The impeachment court played a portion of an interview of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Melvin Matibag on the investigation of alleged anomalies during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, at the request of fellow Senator-judge Pia Cayetano, on Wednesday, July 15.
The 2019 SEA Games was spearheaded by the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Committee, which was chaired by Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano.
Pia called Matibag's statement a 'distraction' from the ongoing impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, to which she called it a supposed act of pressure and intimidation towards her senator brother. (Video courtesy of Senate of the Philippines)
