02:20Uh, my wife is shot.

03:13He stated that if Tiffany didn't pull the trigger, it must have been an unknown assailant.
03:18But before the deputies could dig any deeper into these theories, the EMTs finally arrived on the scene, eager to
03:25bring Tiffany back to life.

05:04And just as she arrived, at 11.38 p.m., EMS officially declared Tiffany deceased.

05:18Jason and Rhonda immediately started calling Tiffany's family to deliver the tragic news.
05:24While they did, investigators examined the van for any potential clues.
05:28They discovered fingerprints on the pink revolver, two spent bullet casings, blood spatter, and a journal that belonged to Tiffany.
05:37They also found gunshot residue on Tiffany's hands and clothing.
05:41They collected all of this evidence for forensic analysis.

06:16After inspecting the body on site, the coroner believed that the presence of two bullet wounds meant that this was
06:22almost certainly a homicide.
06:23And that the gun must have been placed in her hand after Tiffany was already dead.
06:28Tiffany's body was then transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
06:34The next morning, on May 3rd, 2017, the case was handed over to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and
06:40Detective Joe Parrish was put in charge.
06:43To begin his investigation, he planned on taking a look at Tiffany Crawford's van for himself.
06:48But to his surprise, the Coleman Sheriff's Office had already returned the van to the Crawford family the night before.
06:55Parrish was still able to quickly track down the vehicle and examine it.
06:58But strangely, Jason had already thoroughly cleaned it.
07:02And apparently, he had actually gotten permission from the Sheriff's Office to do so.
07:06Jason stated that the reason he cleaned the van so quickly was that he didn't want his kids to see
07:12any remnants of the horrible murder that took place inside of it.
07:15Detective Parrish confirmed that Jason did, in fact, have permission to clean the vehicle.
07:20But he couldn't help but wonder if Jason received special treatment due to his connection with law enforcement.
07:26However, since there wasn't any proof of corruption, he had no choice but to move on with his investigation.
07:31He diverted his focus to carefully reviewing the 911 call and noticed that Jason sounded calculated when answering some of
07:38the questions
07:39and may have been avoiding other questions altogether, like this one.

07:50Seven days after Tiffany was shot dead, Detective Parrish asked Jason to come down to the station for an interview.
07:58I'm in the State Bureau of Investigation.
08:00During this interview, Jason spoke about his relationship with Tiffany.
08:03He explained that this was actually his second marriage.
08:06And his first marriage ended abruptly after learning that his wife had cheated on him.
08:11He got a divorce and was a single dad to his son, Logan, for several years.

08:56Like at least 34 nights a week, she would almost drink a whole bottle.
08:59With trust issues from his last relationship, Jason had a sneaking suspicion that Tiffany was hiding something from him as
09:06well.
09:06But he hadn't figured out what it could be.
09:09Then, just hours before her death, curiosity got the better of him.
09:13So he logged onto Tiffany's computer and found messages to her new counselor, complaining about how lazy he is on
09:19a daily basis.
09:20I logged onto her computer and saw that she had messaged her, I guess her counselor, because it was Lori,
09:29talking about me, about he hasn't changed, he's still lazy, doesn't have any drive, he doesn't want to do anything.
09:38When I come home from the shop, I want to not do anything.
09:42She was a stay-at-home mom, so I felt like stuff at the house was her job.
09:48To make matters worse, he also discovered messages to another man, revealing that Tiffany was, in fact, having an affair.
09:57So what happened next?
09:58I called her.
10:01She denied having sex with him.
10:05And at that point, I was getting frustrated and wanting her to come home.
10:10And I was like, well, I want you to come home and you talk about this.
10:15It just kept you all in my mind.
10:16A few hours later, when Tiffany came home with the kids, Jason went outside and confronted her about the affair.
10:23First thing I told her was, you take your wedding ring off.
10:27Okay?
10:27Like calling her.
10:28So you ruined our home.
10:31She's like, she's no longer part of this.
10:34And you ripped the heart completely out.
10:37You know, you destroyed this.
10:38You destroyed her marriage.

10:41As we mentioned earlier, Jason refused to let her into the house and told her to sleep somewhere else.
10:46She wanted her stuff because she needed to go to work tomorrow.
10:49So I went back in to get them.

10:53I was going in the house.
10:55I had just shut the door.
10:57Like I said, then I heard the shot.
10:58It was like one of those horrific screams that it sounded like something from a horror movie.

11:07We were talking.
11:08Like, it was like, well, scream.
11:13And then like the last shot.
11:16This game was over.
11:18Notice Jason's hand position while recalling the moment that shots were fired.
11:22Rather than knocking on the table with his fist or an open palm,
11:26he points his index finger as if he was holding the gun himself.
11:30The detective saw this as a telling sign that Jason was actually holding the gun when shots were fired.
11:36While Detective Parrish continued questioning Jason about the details of that night,
11:40there was one detail that stood out.

11:44She's right-handed.

11:46Tiffany being right-handed is significant because the weapon was in her left hand when deputies arrived at the scene.

12:16The interview was wrapped up, but before leaving the station, Jason surrendered his phone to the authorities.
12:21However, the phone was clean as there was nothing incriminating on it.
12:25Nineteen days later, there had been no new developments in the case, so Jason was brought back in for further
12:31questioning and agreed to take a polygraph test.
12:46The polygraph test was concluded, and the examiner was certain that Jason was being deceptive.
12:52Your reactions were off the chain, okay?
12:55You're saying that there's no way that you shot your wife, correct?
13:00Even after being called out for his deplorable polygraph results, Jason continued to firmly maintain his innocence.
13:07I don't want to hear that I didn't shoot my wife, because I know that's a f***ing wife.
13:12He then did something we almost never see in an interrogation.
13:16He clarified that he wasn't under arrest and walked out.

13:25A failed polygraph wasn't substantial enough to warrant an arrest.
13:28Months went by with no significant discoveries in Tiffany's case.
13:32During this time, the community of Coleman County gathered to celebrate her life.
13:37People shared fond memories of Tiffany's kind spirit and dedication to helping others.
13:42She's probably one of the most encouraging girls I've ever, one of the most encouraging human beings I've ever met
13:48in my entire life.
13:49I have always said that Tiffany and I are like two peas in a pod.
13:55I don't know how to go on without her, but I'm going to try for my grandchildren.
14:03Her heart was so big and bursting with blood.
14:06She could do, she would do anything to help anyone in need.
14:10So kind and caring and compassionate.
14:12With the help of Tiffany's friends and members of Moms Helping Moms, a bench in Sportsman Lake Park was dedicated
14:19to Tiffany.
14:20This weekend, Tiffany's friends dedicated a new bench in her memory in Sportsman Lake Park.
14:25It's purple, her favorite color.
14:27A perfect way to remember her because this means, you know, if you sit on the bench, then you want
14:33a friend, you need a friend, and someone comes sit with you and you're never alone.
14:37It was evident that the community not only wanted to honor Tiffany's memory, but also yearned for answers surrounding her
14:43untimely death.
14:44Due to a backlog in the Alabama State Crime Lab, about a year passed before authorities finally received Tiffany's autopsy
14:51report on March 8, 2018.
14:53Dr. Valerie Green, the medical examiner, confirmed her initial observations, stating that Tiffany's manner of death was homicide, directly contradicting
15:03Jason's story.
15:04Jason said that the car door was closed and that he found Tiffany with the gun in her left hand.
15:10The absence of gunshot residue and abrasions around the wound on the left side of Tiffany's head indicated that the
15:16shot was fired from at least 10 inches away.
15:18If the door was closed like Jason said it was, there would have been less than 10 inches of space.
15:24Not only that, but if the door was closed, it certainly would have been covered in the victim's blood.
15:30However, there was no blood on the driver's side door at all.
15:33To the detectives, these results were irrefutable proof that Jason's story was impossible.
15:38They now had even more reason to believe that Jason had murdered his wife in cold blood.
15:44While the autopsy report was a much-needed win for the detectives, there was still no physical evidence that Jason
15:50was the one who fired the gun.
15:52However, Detective Parrish and Coleman County prosecutors believed that they had enough circumstantial evidence to take the case to a
15:59grand jury.
16:00After a thorough review, the grand jury found sufficient grounds to indict Jason Crawford.
16:05He was officially charged with first-degree murder.
16:08On Monday, May 21, 2018, Jason turned himself in.

16:16According to the sheriff's office, Crawford turned himself in here at the Coleman County Detention Center today.
16:21He was booked and then posted a $100,000 property bond.

16:31However, since he immediately posted his bond, he was released after just 30 minutes.
16:36While out on bail, the Coleman community, which included Tiffany's family, continued to support Jason.
16:42They truly believed that he did not commit the disturbing crime that he was accused of.
16:47After several delays, the trial finally commenced on Monday, November 14, 2022.
16:52It had been over five years since Tiffany's death, and although family and friends believed in Jason's innocence,
16:58they were all eager for details of the investigation to come to light.
17:02In state prosecutor Jeff Roberts' opening statement, he meticulously laid out the case against Jason.
17:08He said that it was physically impossible for the shooting to be anything but a homicide,
17:12and Jason was the only person who had a clear motive to get revenge for Tiffany cheating on him.
17:18They pointed out his suspicious behavior throughout the investigation,
17:21including his avoidance of important questions during the 911 call.
17:26He shot her in the head.
17:29And the conflicting statement he made about the gun laying next to her.

17:59she couldn't confirm whether or not it belonged to Jason.
18:02The prosecutor suggested that there was hardly any DNA on the gun,
18:06because Jason had cleaned it before staging the scene.
18:10There was also no blood on the driver's side door,
18:12which is consistent with Jason standing outside the van and shooting Tiffany while the door was open.
18:18However, the defense argued that there was still no physical evidence to directly link Jason to the shooting.

19:35Portions of Tiffany's diary were read aloud to the jury.
19:39In one of the entries, she wrote that she was trying not to break down.
19:42The entry was dated May 2, 2017, the same day as the shooting.
19:48The last person the defense called to the stand was Jason himself.
19:51He spoke with compelling emotion, insisting that he loved Tiffany and vehemently denied any involvement in her death.
19:58This testimony seemed like a strategic move to humanize Jason and sway the jury.
20:03But there were several moments of inappropriate laughter, which the prosecutor pounced on during cross-examination,
20:10questioning his sincerity and emotional state.
20:13On Friday, November 18, 2022, after four days of trial, Jason's fate was now in the hands of the jury.
