The United States military said it had completed an eighth straight night of attacks against Iran after earlier announcing that two US service members were killed in Jordan and another was missing following an Iranian missile and drone attack.

The US and Iran have intensified attacks since an interim ceasefire deal signed a month ago fell apart last week, raising the possibility of a return to all-out war.

00:03Two US military personnel in Jordan were killed on Friday as they defended against an attack by Iranian missiles and
00:11drones.
00:11This brought the total casualties in the US forces in the Iran conflict to 16.
00:17The US Central Command said one service member also went missing in action,
00:22while four others were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan when they were fending off the Iranian strikes along with their
00:30partner forces.
00:31They said the four injured victims had since been discharged and other personnel with minor injuries had also returned to
00:39duty.
00:40They then launched new airstrikes against Iran on Saturday to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the
00:49Strait of Hormuz
00:50and punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces for their attacks against US service members in Jordan.
00:57The airstrikes, which was the eighth consecutive night of US strikes, were completed after about five hours.
01:05They said they hit Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime capabilities and missile and drone storage sites.
01:16US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the sacrifice of the fallen service members will only stiffen the US resolve.
01:25The conflict has escalated again after the US forces bombed military targets and civilian infrastructure,
01:32including bridges in Iran in response to the actions by Iranian forces to shoot at commercial ships transiting in the
01:41Strait of Hormuz earlier this month.
01:44Both sides blamed each other for violating the memorandum of understanding which they signed last month to end the war
01:52while negotiating for a final deal.
01:56Mohsen Rezaeh, an advisor to Iran's supreme leader, said if the US strikes continue for several more days,
02:04Iranian forces will move into a phase of full-scale offensive operations,
02:09while the United Nations called on both sides to exercise maximum restraint.
02:15The Secretary General has repeatedly said that Iran should not attack any of the neighbouring countries.
02:23As you know, he's condemned this in the past.
02:26We are concerned by any further escalation, the risk of expanding tensions in an already volatile region.
02:32And, of course, we continue to call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, refrain from actions that could further
02:39inflame the situation,
02:41and engage in urgent efforts to de-escalate.
02:46I'm Mitsuko Kimura from Jiji.
