00:09Our correspondent Belรฉn de los Santos reports from the Luis Hurtado temporary camp in El Junquito, where residents and volunteers
00:16are working together to rebuild daily life.
00:25Hello, studios. How are you? I'm coming to you from the Luis Hurtado transitory camp in El Junquito, west of
00:32Caracas, and we have been here for quite some time now.
00:35The idea is always to capture what life really is inside these transitory camps and also the particularities, the characteristics
00:44of each one of these spaces.
00:46Again, the spaces like this one, they are all over the city, all over the affected states, of course, also
00:53La Guayra, and they are designed in order to support and to give shelter to those most affected after the
01:02June 24th earthquakes.
01:04In this case, this is a transitory camp that is organized by the ministry of communes.
01:11And with that territorial advantage, with the territorial work, so characteristics of the communes in Venezuela, we have been talking
01:20in every camp the importance of the territorial work,
01:25the knowing each territory, the people who live there, their needs, their usual activities, how important that was to the
01:34organization and the setting up of the spaces in just a record time.
01:40Well, of course, this is one of those examples.
01:43One of the things to keep in mind, for example, that sets this transitory camp apart was the organization by
01:50working brigades that include the work not only of those who are coming here as volunteers, for example,
01:57or are part of the institutions who are in charge of the transitory camp, but also involve the work of
02:03those who are staying, of those affected who are now taking shelter inside these camps.
02:10They're all working together as one big family, they say, in working units that go from recreational activities to cooking
02:19duties, cleaning duties, the organization and storage of products.
02:24All of these different areas that make up life inside the transitory camp is being coordinated by different assemblies and
02:32has the participation and the involvement of those who are staying.
02:36There are over 300 people, particularly from this area of El Junquito, but also from La Guaira, staying at this
02:45camp and doing life in common here and just receiving the needed support.
02:51We are seeing the kids play right behind me, just one of the areas of work here in the transitory
02:59camp.
02:59But also we have and we have seen the work of the different therapeutic treatments at work and all of
03:08this makes up life inside the Luis Hurtado camp.
03:12Just one more space of those that are dedicated to assisting those most affected after June 24th.
