U.S. stock futures declined on Friday, as the Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100, and S&P 500 indices fell, following Thursday's lower close.

June housing starts saw a rebound, which surged 19.0% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,427,000 units. This significant jump in residential construction effectively overshadowed a milder 0.3% uptick in June import prices, calming immediate inflation anxieties as a monthly drop in fuel import costs helped temper the overall advance.

The Nasdaq 100 index plunged by 1.62% on Thursday amid a sell-off in tech stocks. Shares of Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) both fell by more than 5% each.

On Thursday night, President Donald Trump aggressively praised domestic economic progress during an impromptu primetime address, declaring that the U.S. is enjoying unprecedented global investment and has become “the hottest country anywhere in the world.” Trump asserted the nation is doing “great” with historic employment figures.

Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.53%, and the two-year bond was at 4.12%. The CME Group’s FedWatch tool’s projections show markets pricing an 89.8% likelihood of the Federal Reserve leaving the current interest rates unchanged during July’s meeting.

The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE: SPY) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ: QQQ), which track the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, respectively, were lower in premarket on Friday. The SPY was down 0.985% at $744.32, while the QQQ declined by 1.81% to $693.19.
