U.S. stock futures were lower on Monday, as the Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 indices fell, following Monday’s lower close.

On the economic front, market sentiment faced headwinds from housing data as U.S. housing starts dropped 12.4% month-over-month in July to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,239,000.

Meanwhile, import prices held steady in July, signaling stabilizing price pressures on foreign goods following previous upward trends.

Brent Crude futures were trading above $91, as geopolitical tensions escalated after President Donald Trump rejected extending a temporary ceasefire with Iran. The standoff, compounded by Tehran’s threat to adopt a “fully offensive” military posture, has renewed fears over energy supplies and potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.74%, and the two-year bond was at 4.19%. The CME Group’s FedWatch tool projections show markets pricing a 36.6% likelihood of the Federal Reserve hiking the current interest rates during its September meeting.

The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE: SPY) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ: QQQ), which track the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, respectively, were lower in premarket on Tuesday. The SPY was down 0.45% at $769.19, while the QQQ declined by 1.24% to $720.80.
