00:04I'm in the most magical part of the ABC, we're in the art department and look who I've got
00:10with me.
00:10We've got Big Ted, Little Ted, Jemima, Humpty, Kaya and I'm going to give you an inside look
00:17at how these characters are made.
00:20I'm lucky enough to have one of the Play School designers here with me, Miff, come in here.
00:25How are you going?
00:26Good.
00:27Yeah, that's great.
00:27You've run this competition to celebrate Play School's 60 years, almost 10,000 kids have
00:33sent in drawings and you've picked one winner that will bring, you'll bring their drawing
00:38to life.
00:39Tell me about the winner, Leo and his drawing.
00:42Well, it was really exciting to have children involved and come up with a character because
00:47you know, the imagination is there and the drawing is beautiful.
00:50So we have Lewis the Lizard.
00:54So cute.
00:55Yeah.
00:55He's adorable.
00:56Love at first sight for me.
00:58And so here he is brought to life.
01:02Wow.
01:02And basically I just blew up his picture and used that as my pattern piece and then just
01:13sort of tried to use the energy of the way he's coloured it in and also wanted him soft
01:18and cuddly.
01:19Oh.
01:20And the spikes as well.
01:21I love them.
01:22Yeah.
01:23So I wanted to get that energy of the way when you're colouring in, you don't have to
01:26keep in lines and it's so lovely because it's sort of sprawling out of the design and
01:32then his little heart-shaped eyes and his kind of flowery, scribbly smile, I just love the
01:40energy of this creature.
01:42How exciting.
01:43How exciting.
01:44And you must have one of the coolest jobs in the world.
01:47What goes on in here every day?
01:49What's your day-to-day?
01:51Well, it's a very collaborative process.
01:53We've got a team here that work together and we basically get the script and we will go
02:00from there and come up with materials, we'll collect things.
02:04I like to do what I call making a nest of all this mess, but then eventually it turns
02:10into something and we've got a lot of problem solving we have to do.
02:14We make the sets, the environments.
02:17So, you know, one day it'll be a rainforest and then the next day we'll be under the sea.
02:23And we're trying, we're trying to get all this in the background and support our presenters
02:28who are the show and handing them these things and yeah, just, it's wonderful.
02:35Like every day is different.
02:36We work in really small and we work at large scale.
02:40So yeah, paint, fabric, it's all in there.
02:44How good.
02:44I'm so jealous.
02:45I might just apply for a job with you guys.
02:48And Lewis is going off to hang out with his, the other characters in play school.
