A road train crashed into a stationary b-double truck on the Hume Highway near Breadalbane in the early hours of Friday.
Transcript
00:00Just after four o'clock this morning on the 17th of July, a driver of a B-double has broken
00:06down
00:07in lane one of the Hume Highway northbound. That driver has gotten out of his vehicle and deployed
00:15hazard triangles and notified other road users on his CB that he was having issues with the vehicle
00:21and that he'd come to a stop. But unfortunately a driver of a road train has collided with the
00:28rear of the B-double and both vehicles have caught a light. The New South Wales Fire Brigade
00:37Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service have attended and have been placing that fire under
00:46control for several hours. Unfortunately the male of the road train passed away at the scene.
00:54The driver of the B-double has been taken to Yass Hospital for mandatory testing and for treatment
01:05of minor lacerations to his face. In the early hours of this morning it was quite an intense fire, quite
01:13a
01:13distraught scene particularly for witnesses and the driver of the road train. It's taken several hours for
01:21the fire to be placed under control and during that time we will still continue to have the north
01:29lane, two lanes of the northbound Hume Highway closed. There is a contraflow in place on the southbound
01:36lanes and we do have one lane for both north and southbound traffic which is flowing fine at the moment.
01:42Are police concerned about the number of crashes? Yeah look that's correct. We have had some incidents
01:50on the Hume Highway involving heavy vehicles. The heavy vehicles are on the road 24-7 and they do a
01:58great
01:58job in ensuring freight is transported between regional and metro New South Wales and also interstate.
02:07We are working with the other sectors of the New South Wales Police, Highway Patrol and General Duties
02:17to make sure that we can make our highways a safe place. We're appealing for any witnesses particularly
02:22those with dash cam footage either prior to the incident occurring or during and if they could let
02:31us know if they do have any footage via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000. Thank you.
