00:19It's July, I mean, we're halfway through the year, so that means the list of my favourite
00:22TV shells of the year so far.
00:24I've never did a TV list before, but the criteria is that it must be a shell that aired in
00:282026,
00:28so if it's a four-on-shell that has now gotten a release on UK screens this year, but aired
00:32last year in its country of origin, it's not on the list.
00:35Shells that air one half this season in the autumn or winter months will be considered for this list if
00:41the other half airs in 2026.
00:43Anyway, let's start this list with...
00:47Gone.
00:48This was engaged in a mystery-filled about murder of the wife of an emotionally distant headmaster, played by David
00:52Morrissey.
00:53It was a good mystery that kept me guessing where it was going.
00:55David Morrissey, who makes his first appearance on this list in Eva Miles, gives great performances, with Morrissey playing well
01:00to his strengths as playing people who are emotionally distant.
01:02The show feels self-contained, but it does leave itself open for a second season, which I would be interested
01:06to see where it goes if it does come.
01:12Invincibles, Season 4.
01:13This is a superhero saga, managed to pay off a lot of plot heads from earlier seasons, but add in
01:18some new ones, which sets the stage for seasons down the line.
01:21Add in Lee Pace as the intimidating villain Frag, and a hell of a cliffhanger, I'm excited to see what
01:26comes next from this superhero saga.
01:31Small Profits
01:32From Mackenzie Couric comes this observant mediation on grief and loss, but it manages to pack a lot of charm
01:36with both its comedy and urban fantasy elements.
01:39With a great lead performance from P.S. Quigley, and a lot of mystery to keep me going, this was
01:43one of my favourites of the year.
01:47Spider Noir
01:48Transferring Marvel's Thor Hero to the 1930s gives us a fun and interesting alternate Spider-Man story.
01:54Nicolas Cage's kind of sort of reprisal of Spider-Man Noir in live action is a lot of fun, and
01:59the Noir version of Spider-Man's supporting cast and Rob's Gallery were interesting interpretations brought together by a pretty good
02:05cast.
02:08Star Wars
02:09More Shadow Lord
02:10I've already reviewed this show, but in short, this animated chapter in the Star Wars saga offered a great crime
02:14-filled adventure with interesting new characters and some of the best animation I've seen this year for TV.
02:21Ted
02:22Season 2
02:23Zephyr McFarlane's sitcom prequel manages to still be funny, and manages to harken back to classic sitcoms with fun episodes
02:29like Ted and John making fake news or a D&D adventure.
02:31It's a great example of the genre in shows why sitcoms still work, and fills in that void left behind.
02:39The Boys
02:40Season 5
02:42Viscoth's adaptation ended on a decisive, but in my opinion strong now, having the celebrity and political satire take its
02:47backseat, but not too far back as it's still visible.
02:50The Boys had a more character-focused season that managed to tie up a lot of character arcs in satisfying
02:55and bloody ways.
02:59The Witness
02:59While I do think the episode count was too short to tell the story in full, this retelling of the
03:031992 Rachel McHale murder case and the events after a detailed and empathic side of the story, detailing the effects
03:08of the murder and the media attention towards her widower, Andrea and her son, Alex Hanscom, affected them, bolstered by
03:15great performances from Jordan Bolger and Max Fincham.

04:29We're halfway through the year, for real this time, so that means, a middle-of-the-year list of films
04:34that I enjoyed so far.
04:35criteria for this list is as follows one must be released for paying audience in 2026 two films
04:42that had a festival run in 2025 count three films that released in 2025 in other countries but again
04:48an international release like exit 8 this year do not count now let's see what films i enjoyed this
04:53year so far back rooms one of the biggest trends this year was a bunch of films directed by people
05:00who got their start on youtube and the first of many on this list was kane parsons backrooms expanding
05:05on his web series and based on the creepypasta backrooms manages to craft both a scary experience
05:11but also a great meditation on loss and obsession even if it did suffer from an abrupt ending adding
05:16to that gorgeous production design and a good performance from shiva telegio 4 you've got yourself
05:20a winner disclosure day 2026 has so far been a great year for science fiction films and steven
05:28spielberg's latest extraterrestrial escapade offers us an old school conspiracy filler
05:33showing that spielberg still has it after 50 years in the business and even an old style of
05:37film can still work now i've seen some people treat the ending as a little bit saccharine
05:41but i thought it worked well and emily blunt gives a great performance here as well
05:47hoppers while pixar's latest adventure into the toy box seems to be doing gangbusters at the time of
05:52writing daniel chong's hoppers won me elba more with a madcap energy that makes it more looney
05:57tunes and disney hoppers delivers a funny and relevant environmental tale with some great
06:00animation to boot and some really appealing character designs
06:06mike and nick and nick and alice gangsters and science fiction collide in this funny time travel
06:11movie vince thorn manages to pull off a great double performance here in this film that manages to meet
06:15the conventions and needs of both genres and making them work in tandem without it being other
06:19stuff along with its observations on friendship the film is available on hulu in america and it's on
06:25disney plus in other territories obsession one of the biggest horror hits of the year obsession gave
06:32us a great monday riff on the monkey's poor premise managing to both be funny in some parts creepy in
06:37others and downright scary in the rest of it add in indie navarrete given one of the year's best
06:42performances you've got a great film you'll be obsessing over pizza movie pizza movie was a fun and
06:49silly stoner movie while it isn't reinventing the real the gags come in hard and fast as each one tops
06:54itself how silly it can get from head exploding bad trips to body swapping with a butterfly and more
06:59it's good bro like mick and nick and nick and alice this film is also available on hulu in america
07:04and on disney plus in other territories
07:09project hell mary phil lord and chris miller's andy weir adaptation was an uplifting sci-fi yarn about
07:15how people from different backgrounds can work together for a common goal ryan gosling as good
07:18as he always is but the puppetry led by james old this that steals the show it's a great year
07:22for
07:22science fiction films so far send help sam raimi's over the top island horror is a hell of a time
07:30rachel mccadams gives a entertaining and fun performance and raimi shows that his horror
07:34skills he helmed from the evil dead have been blunted over the years
07:40the sheep detectives this was a light and fluffy murder mystery that managed to be both sweet and
07:44charming but allows itself to tackle death and loss in an effective manner the cgi on the sheep is great
07:49and there's an excellent cast deployed both on camera and in the vl booth
07:5528 years later the bone temple nina costa changes gears taking over from danny boyle
08:00in the director's chair and while it doesn't have the social commentary of the previous film it makes
08:04up for it by going the day of the dead route by humanizing the zombies there's also a viciousness
08:09to the film helped by children performance by jack o'connell and ralph fott lines puts in a
08:13career highlight here as well the film also manages to tie up some plot threads from the first 28 years
08:18later film but it does leave itself up for a sequel down the line if it ever comes out so
08:23those were
08:23my favorite films of the year and to recap they were backrooms disclosure day hoppers mike and nick
08:28and nick and alice obsession pizza movie project hell mary send help the sheep detectives and 28
