00:05spinning off from the Star Wars Visions anthology series.
00:08But does The Ninth Jedi hold up as a series rather than a short? Let's find out.
00:17Right off the bat, the shell sets itself up by explaining that it's set in the far future in the
00:21Star Wars humor
00:22so you don't have to worry about how it fits into canon.
00:24Here, we follow a group of Jedi survivors having to save the galaxy from a lore ward called Nawan,
00:29who's gaining footholds throughout the galaxy, and so it's up to Jedi-in-training Lakara to help save the galaxy.
00:35But what ties does Nawan have to her and her father? Well, watch the show to find out.
00:39I found the setting of the show interesting. As it's far in the future, there's no ties to the previous
00:44films or series in the saga,
00:46so we get introduced to a new batch of characters who all draw from previous Star Wars archetypes so it
00:51isn't too unfamiliar.
00:52Lakara obviously evokes characters like Rey or Luke Skywalker as a young Jedi-in-training having to deal with
00:57what her relatives have done in the past, Juro is an obvious Obi-Wan archetype,
01:02Nawan is more Kylo Ren than Vader, and Lajima takes cues from Anakin Skywalker.
01:07These rifts are not just confined to characters, we see a lot of thematic and story points from the films
01:12transferred here,
01:13mostly from the sequel trilogy, a group of people who lived in the aftermath of the Jedi Order,
01:17having to rebuild it, and also a Soho masked villain from using a big galaxy-killing weapon.
01:21But this doesn't feel like a retread, though, as it manages to do its own thing which makes it feel
01:25fresh.
01:26I do feel like the show was a little bit let down by its episode count.
01:30It has eight episodes, which does manage to let the story play out,
01:33but I feel like it doesn't explore this far future setting as much as it should.
01:37And I also think it did leave some supporting cast like Ethan and Holman with less development,
01:41as I wanted to see their stories and backstories,
01:44and I think it would have been better served with more episodes to feel a bit more richer.
01:48On the animation front, I thought the animation looked good.
01:50Production IG handled the animation like it did the previous short, and they do a consistent job.
01:54Fight scenes look good and have a good flow to them.
01:57The CGI integration was good and not distracting.
01:59Star Wars Vision Presents The Night of Jedi is a pretty good standalone Star Wars story.
02:04Managing to redo familiar plot beats in a refreshing way.
02:06That doesn't feel like copying too much from the films.
02:09If they do another season of this, I would love to see one of the other shorts in the previous
02:13volume get a follow-up,
02:13but I wouldn't mind to take another trip to this far distant era of the galaxy.
