00:00As 2025 draws to a close, it's usually a time to look back, but for this episode, I want to
00:04look forward at what 2026 offers us on the film front.
00:08Now, a small disclaimer, this list will be films that have a sort of release date, so no independent films
00:12that have not found a distributor yet will not appear on this list.
00:15And I should also acknowledge that films released dates are subject to change.
00:19My previous anticipation list had films that got pushed back, so there's a good chance that some films on this
00:24list might be pushed back to 2027, so be cautious of that.
00:27Now, before we get into the main event, let's get to honorable mentions.
00:30These are films that might come out next year, but don't have release dates that I'm interested in, so let's
00:35start with...
00:38Daisy's Life.
00:39Masaaki Yuasa, mind game, night is short, walk on girl, loo over the wall, and Inuo, has another film coming
00:44out from his new studio, Anae Pippin.
00:47This film is an adaptation of Banana Yoshimoto's Daisy's Life.
00:51I'm excited to see what Yuasa has to offer this time.
00:56Palangi di Mars.
00:58One of the things I tend to do is try and watch a variety of different films from around the
01:01world.
01:01One film I have on my radar is Palangi di Mars, a science fiction film from Indonesia, and to my
01:06knowledge, the country's first.
01:07It looks good, and I hope to see it next year, depending on how it's distributed outside of the country.
01:15Rogue Trooper.
01:16Based on the 2000 AD comic, Rogue Trooper sees Moon and source code director Duncan Jones venture into animation using
01:22Unreal Engine 5.
01:24Looking by these preview images, it looks really good, so let's hope it comes together.
01:27It also has a stacked cast of great British talent behind it.
01:30Now let's look at the films with solid, at the time of recording, release dates.
01:34At number one, it's All You Need Is Kill.
01:36Edge of Tomorrow, or Live Die Repeat, depending on how you call it, is getting another go.
01:39Or just that light novel it's based on is getting adapted again, this time as an anime movie detailing a
01:44different perspective from the novel and the film.
01:46The animation looks good.
01:47It has a good self-shaded CGI look that I mistook for 2D until further inspection.
01:52I'm excited to see what this film has to offer.
01:56Number two, Clayface and Supergirl.
01:59Sharing a support here because they're both DC Universe films, and the two are films that mark big firsts for
02:04this new superhero series.
02:05Supergirl is the series' first female-led superhero film, Clayface is the first film focusing on a villain.
02:10There's also some of the universe's first projects not directed by James Gunn,
02:13so it's interesting to see what directors Craig Gillespie and James Watkins bring to the table.
02:17With Clayface, it's the first horror project for the universe, which is a rare thing in this genre,
02:21and has a screenplay by Mike Flanagan inspired by the Batman animated series episode of Feet of Clay.
02:26I'm also excited to see Supergirl, as it's inspired by Tom King's great Woman of Tomorrow storyline,
02:30and it looks a lot of fun.
02:31Both films have a lot of interesting things going on for me.
02:36Number three, Coyote vs. Acme.
02:39Coyote vs. Acme is finally getting released in 2026.
02:42The film was shelved by Warner Brothers for a tax write-off,
02:45but due to backlash, they reversed the decision and led the film to be shopped around to other studios,
02:49and now it'll be released by Ketchup Entertainment.
02:51That's great, seeing a film be released, but then there's the premise of the film,
02:55which sees Wile E. Coyote sue Acme Products in court for failing him all those years,
02:59in his attempts to capture the roadrunner.
03:01I love Looney Tunes, I love Wile E. Coyote, I love the premise, I love that it's getting released,
03:05it's also co-written by James Gunn, so I'm pretty damn excited about this.
03:11Number four, Disclosure Day.
03:12Steven Spielberg.
03:13Nuff said.
03:17Number five, I love Boosters.
03:19In 2018, Boots Wiley's excellent debut, Sorry to Bother You, was a wild movie.
03:23In 2026, he brings up his follow-up with I Love Boosters, a film about shoplifters.
03:28The film's cast include Kiki Palmer, Naomi Aki, Taylor Page, Demi Moore, Don Cheadle,
03:32and many more.
03:33I've definitely got this film pencil-wrought in,
03:35and hopefully it's not going to be released in the UK, unlike Sorry to Bother You.
03:40Number six, Mononoke, the movie, chapter three, The Curse of the Serpent.
03:44I feel like the Mononoke movies are pretty underrated.
03:46Some of the best animated films I've seen recently,
03:48and 2026 offers us the conclusion to the Medicine Cellar's escapades in the Yoku.
03:52This one seems to finally involve the Shogun, who's made sporadic appearances in the films,
03:55and could possibly type other mysteries that have popped up about the Yoku in the films.
03:59Well, I'm probably going to have to watch the films by now, if they'll answer my questions.
04:05Number seven, Resident Evil.
04:07Zach Kragger, fresh off Barbarian and Reppens, is doing a worse than an evil movie.
04:10I hope it brings the level of crafty mystery and darkly humorous horror to this video game adaptation,
04:15which, its source material has managed to tell the line between silly and scary,
04:18so I'm really excited for this.
04:22Number eight was originally going to be the Avatar movie they were going to put into theatres,
04:27but due to the production of this, was announced to be moving to Paramount+,
04:31so I had to take it off the list.
04:34So that Street Fighter movie looks pretty silly.
04:39Number nine, The Social Reckoning.
04:40David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's The Social Network was one of the most prescient films of the 2010s
04:45in regards to how Facebook and the larger tech world would affect our lives one way or another.
04:48Now, Aaron Sorkin directs the sequel, 16 years later,
04:51in a world where the tech industry seems to have made our lives not good.
04:54So I'll be interested to see how this film tackles that.
05:00Number ten, 28 years later, The Bowen Temple.
05:02I loved 28 years later, one of my favourite films of 2025.
05:05The sequel sees Neil de Kosta take the director's chair from Danny Boyle.
05:08I'm excited to see where this sequel goes to, and I loved De Kosta's other films,
05:11and I'd like to see how a non-Brit handles the material consumed 28 years later had a very British
05:15cultural sense about itself.
05:16So those are the films I'm excited to see in 2026.
