00:00It's July, I mean, we're halfway through the year, so that means the list of my favourite TV shells of
00:04the year so far.
00:04Never did a TV list before, but the criteria is that it must be a shell that aired in 2026,
00:09so if it's a foreign shell that has now gotten a release on the UK screens this year,
00:12but aired last year in its country of origin, it's not on the list.
00:15Shells that air one and a half this season in the autumn or winter months will be considered for this
00:20list
00:20if the other half airs in 2026.
00:23Anyway, let's start this list with...
00:27Gone.
00:28Gone.
00:28This was an engaging mystery-filled about murder of the wife of an emotionally distant headmaster, played by David Morrissey.
00:33It was a good mystery that kept me guessing where it was going.
00:35David Morrissey, who makes his first appearance on this list in Eva Miles, gives great performances,
00:39with Morrissey playing well to his strengths as playing people who are emotionally distant.
00:42The show will feel self-contained, but it does leave itself open for a second season,
00:46which I would be interested to see where it goes if it does come.
00:52Invincible, Season 4.
00:53This continuing superhero saga manages to pay off a lot of prop heads from earlier seasons,
00:58but adding some new ones, which sets the stage for seasons down the line.
01:01Adding Lee Pace as the intimidating villain Frag,
01:04and a hell of a cliffhanger, I'm excited to see what comes next from this superhero saga.
01:11Small Profits
01:12From Mackenzie Couric comes this observant mediation on grief and loss,
01:15but it manages to pack a lot of charm with both its comedy and urban fantasy elements.
01:19With a great lead performance from P.S. Quigley,
01:21and a lot of mystery to keep me going, this was one of my favourites of the year.
01:27Spider Noir
01:28Transferring Marvel's Thor Hero to the 1930s gives us a fun and interesting alternate Spider-Man story.
01:34Nicolas Cage's kind of sort of reprisal of Spider-Man Noir in live action is a lot of fun,
01:38and the Noir version of Spider-Man's supporting cast and Rogue's Gallery
01:42were interesting interpretations brought together by a pretty good cast.
01:48Star Wars
01:49More Shadow Lord
01:50I've already reviewed this show, but in short,
01:52this animated chapter in the Star Wars saga offered a great crime-filled adventure
01:55with interesting new characters and some of the best animation I've seen this year for TV.
02:01Ted
02:02Season 2
02:03Zephyr McFarlane's sitcom prequel manages to still be funny,
02:06and manages to harken back to classic sitcoms with fun episodes like Ted and John making fake news,
02:10or a D&D adventure.
02:12It's a great example of the genre and shows why sitcoms still work,
02:15and fills in that void left behind.
02:19The Boys
02:20Season 5
02:21This got a fair adaptation ended on a decisive,
02:24but in my opinion strong now,
02:25having the celebrity and political satire take its back seat,
02:28but not too far back as it's still visible.
02:30The Boys had a more character-focused season that managed to tie up a lot of character arcs
02:34in satisfying and bloody ways.
02:39For Witness,
02:39while I do think the episode count was too short to tell a story in full,
02:42this retelling of the 1992 Rachel McHale murder case,
02:45and the events after,
02:46detailed an empathic side of the story,
02:47detailing the effects of the murder and the media attention
02:50towards her widower,
02:51Andrea and her son Alex Hanscom affected them,
02:54bolstered by great performances from Jordan Bolger and Max Fincham.
03:01Tiptoe
03:01Russell T. Davis returns to Canal Street,
03:03and his story of a neighbourly feud that survived without control,
03:06managed to be a very prescient and urgent piece.
03:09Managing to run the gambit of current hot-topic issues like the rise of bigotry,
03:12especially to help GBTQ plus people,
03:14Tiptoe
03:15managed to craft an excellent tragedy.
03:17Alan Cumming and David Morsi,
03:18hey, it's him again,
03:19gives great performances,
03:20managed to play to her respective strength,
03:21and Russell T. Davis gives the show a very personal and even angry perspective.
03:25It's a tense state of the nation piece,
03:26and it's worth the watch.
03:31Wonder Man
03:31The Malseumatic Universe goes to Hollywood with Wonder Man.
03:34Moving away from the superheroics,
03:36Wonder Man gives a great, grounded-for-the-MCU look at a certain area of the world,
03:39mainly the movie business,
03:40and what it would be like in a world of superheroes.
03:43We get good performances from Yaha Abdorn,
03:45Mancine II, and Ben Kingsley,
03:46and the show has an earnestness to the movie business,
03:49but doesn't let its glasses be rose-tinted,
03:51with the episode Doorman being an excellent thesis statement.
03:53So those were my favourite TV shows of the year so far,
