00:01When Matthew Milhouse died at just 36, Hobart Legacy stepped in to support his wife and daughter.
00:09We would not be here, my daughter and I, without the support and information and help that Legacy provided us.
00:19The charity provides emotional, practical and financial support to more than 400 families of deceased or incapacitated veterans in southern
00:28Tasmania.
00:29But with volunteer numbers falling and more than half of the current crop aged over 75, Hobart Legacy itself now
00:37needs support.
00:38We've got about 40 or 50 legatees and we're ageing and to be able to look after the widows is
00:44quite a daunting task.
00:45And some of these are much younger widows, so we need extra help.
00:50The charity's hoping to attract more young volunteers, like 14-year-old Angus Gunn, who's helped with recent fundraising efforts.
00:59It's very rewarding. You get to speak to people you don't really usually speak to.
01:04We need more women and we need some younger people.
01:08Legacy says volunteers don't need to have a military background. They just need compassion, a willingness to help and some
01:15spare time.
01:16That way Legacy lives on, the support they provide lives on, because we unfortunately are still going to have widows
01:25that need support.
01:26And with that comes the need for more people to help provide that support.
