00:00Pretty good ballpark tonight at Citizens Bank there, Gabe, for, well, a home run derby,
00:06especially if you're a left-handed hitter, my man.
00:08What are you thinking tonight?
00:10Yeah, you're right.
00:10Good to see you, Joe.
00:12You know, just thinking, actually, though, this is sort of life without the World Cup right now, Joe.
00:17Right?
00:17Like, we were kind of lucky.
00:19We were fortunate.
00:19We've had the World Cup.
00:20That's really, I mean, gotten this through to mid-July, right?
00:24You know, the old dog days of summer, so to speak.
00:27Like, you know, later in the week, it's time for people, listen, I'm an MLS fan.
00:31You're in Miami, and the MLS is obviously very popular there.
00:34But I think it's time for a lot of people to start learning some WNBA and MLS teams more than
00:41they know, Joe,
00:42because all you're going to have is baseball soon.
00:45Big, you know, obviously big soccer games coming up this week.
00:48But you're right, left-handed hitters.
00:50And something that caught my eye, too, I don't really like going chalk so much here, Joe, in these derbies,
00:55but I think the oddsmakers kind of got this right.
00:58As far as Kyle Schwarber is concerned, guys, this is his third home run derby.
01:02He hasn't won it before.
01:04You do this thing three times, it means you want to win, Joe.
01:07Like, he clearly isn't, like, he's not just participating for fun.
01:11He wants to win this thing.
01:12And I can't help but see the reality of this, Joe, that 19 of his 32 home runs have come
01:20in this ballpark this year as well.
01:23Hard to go against.
01:25There's a couple of lefties here.
01:26I think we'll have an advantage.
01:27But, of course, right behind Schwarber is Caminero, who was last year's runner-up.
01:34But it's important that people understand, too, Gabe, this is not what it has been.
01:39The rules have changed.
01:40You know, they made this home run derby into, like, a cardio event over the last couple of years with
01:46the clock.
01:47Yeah, I like that, Joe.
01:48I like that.
01:49I don't like the change.
01:50You know, but the old guys, like, Schwarber got killed.
01:52They got absolutely killed.
01:53They couldn't breathe.
01:54That's a good point.
01:55I know.
01:56Wasn't it fun, though?
01:57It was, like, fast.
01:58Like, a guy was like, I need 27.
02:01And you know the number?
02:02And it was like, boom, boom, boom, boom.
02:03But you're right.
02:04Guys would start to go.
02:05So it's a good point that Joe brings up.
02:07Remember, it used to be, like, on a clock type thing, right?
02:10Yep.
02:11And now it's 20 swings.
02:1420 swings in the first round.
02:15And it goes down after the 15, et cetera.
02:17We can go over the exact rules.
02:19But, yeah, you're right, Joe.
02:20So no more clock.
02:21But good observation by you that this does help the older guys, doesn't it?
02:27Younger guys can get up there and just take, you know, 80 swings in a minute or something.
02:31And the old guys had wiped them out.
02:34Killed them, Gabe.
02:36I mean, that's basically what it had done.
02:38But this is a little bit more like it used to be there.
02:41They brought it back a little bit of old school.
02:43So, yeah, 20 swings in round one, 15 swings in the semis, and five rounds.
02:50And it's all in the top four, Gabe.
02:52And that's the other thing, right?
02:53Not so much the head-to-head thing anymore.
02:55Yeah, we're not head-to-head until the semis.
02:57Yeah, yeah.
02:57We're not head-to-head until the semis, yeah.
02:59So give me the four best home run.
03:02Because, again, you could have walked into a buzzsaw, had, you know, 26 home runs in your match and didn't
03:09advance.
03:10So, you know, they've kind of cleaned it up a little bit.
03:13But you got some guys that are not spring chickens in this one.
03:18I mean, you've got a former champ, right?
03:20And what about Bryce Harper?
03:22You know, he's going at it with his buddy there in shawarma.
03:25Yep, yep.
03:27So the exact new format, guys.
03:30Eight participants.
03:31So there's eight batters.
03:33Top four advanced to round two.
03:3520 swings in round one.
03:3715 swings in round two.
03:3915 swings in the final round.
03:42A player who homers on his last swing in any round continues until he makes an out or he wins
03:47the round as well.
03:49So there's the format and, you know, as we stated, it's not head-to-head to start here, which I
03:54kind of like.
03:55I've always – that was one thing I didn't like, Joe.
03:57Yep.
03:58Right?
03:58Like, in the past, someone would get screwed.
04:00It'd be like, yeah, I hit 23, but the guy I went against hit 30.
04:04Right.
04:04And someone else would advance with 17.
04:07Like, you know what I mean?
04:07Yep.
04:08Like, it didn't make sense often.
04:10Like, you know, so I understand.
04:11Like, you know, listen, I'm not going to lose sweep over a home run derby rules.
04:14You know what I mean?
04:15They tweak it as we go here.
04:18But players do want to win this thing, and it's a good call, Joe.
04:21You know, you don't want to take four guys.
04:25You know what I'm saying?
04:25You can't take, like, everybody.
04:26There's only eight guys.
04:27But how many guys do you think you can take?
04:30Because I got my eye on Schwarber.
04:32You just mentioned Camonero, and he's the other guy.
04:35Like, so I don't mind, like, if we have two of the four going into the semis, right?
04:39So I'm going to play Schwarber, but let's talk about some of the other guys that are in this competition.
