00:15His attempted attack was stopped by three passing soldiers after they heard the woman screaming.
00:22The judge said that Barkat sought to take advantage of a lone, vulnerable woman and acted like a predator.
00:30But sentencing him to seven years and three months imprisonment on Friday,
00:35the judge said the police investigating the matter had shown a catalogue of incompetencies.
00:42He told the court that Barkat was released either on bail or under investigation,
00:48despite being caught red-handed for a period of one year.
00:52During which time, the judge said he was free to do what he likes,
00:56despite having attacked a lone woman in a park.
01:00Barkat had been found guilty of attempted rape and of assaulting one of the soldiers who intervened.
01:06He denied both counts, saying that he only tried to rob the woman of her phone.
