A man jailed over the abduction of his five-year-old son may have left the UK in the three days it took prison staff to notify police that he had been mistakenly released from custody, the High Court has been told.

00:00Mr. Justice Hayden said at a hearing on Monday that following his release Adeyei strolled about the London area and
00:10had a quote-unquote very nice dinner and quite a lot of drink at a local pub, before transferring thousands
00:19of pounds to others from a bank account.
00:21It is believed that he may have travelled to Spain the following day, all before prison staff contacted the Metropolitan
00:30Police in the afternoon of the 24th April.
00:33Mr. Justice Hayden added if the police had been contacted immediately, this could certainly perhaps have been prevented.
00:44Last June, the same judge ruled that Adeyei, a dual British-Nigerian national, abducted his son from his mother in
00:53France and took him to Nigeria via the UK.
00:58The judge said the son was born in France and had lived with the mother since birth, adding that the
01:04day of the abduction, in July 2024, was the first time that the son was staying overnight with his father.
01:12The five-year-old boy's mother has not seen her son since and has been trying to secure his return
01:18through the English courts, with Mr. Justice Hayden ruling in a legal first that the High Court had the power
01:25to order that Adeyei return the boy to his mother.
