A major change at Australian airports is on its way, with the federal government preparing to roll out digital declarations to replace paper cards for international arrivals.

00:06which they say is outdated and contributes to congestion at airports since 2024 Qantas has
00:14been trialing a digital form on some flights coming into Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane
00:18and that will be expanded to include Adelaide and Perth by the end of the year passengers are able
00:23to fill in their declaration through the Qantas app up to three days ahead of time and then show
00:29a QR code to border force officers upon arrival. Now the government says that's been a success and
00:35so from next year the digital form will be expanded to include all international airports and seaports
00:41across Australia and all airlines through a web form although the paper form will still be available
00:46to those who need it. The federal government says the new system will help to reduce congestion at
00:52airports and entice more tourists to Australia.
