Want ultimate privacy and anonymity online? In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to correctly download, install, and flash Tails OS onto a USB drive, and how to boot into it safely from any computer.

Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) is a security-focused Linux distribution designed to protect your privacy and bypass censorship. Everything you do inside Tails runs entirely in the computer's RAM, leaving absolutely no trace or digital footprint behind on the hard drive once you shut it down.

00:00All right, what's up? I'm Ayan and in this video I am going to show you how to create your
00:03own Tails OS operating system
00:05USB drive that you can use anywhere
00:08you want and
00:10Tails OS is currently the most secure operating system that you can have and it is very portable. So if
00:17you want to
00:18you know have
00:21Extraordinary privacy like Tor browser and it is also recommended by Edward Snowden if you don't know about him
00:27What do you know?
00:28Okay, Tails OS is a portable operating system. So I'm going to go ahead and tell you how you can
00:35install it
00:35I am using Windows laptop. So I am going to select install this from Windows
00:40I will provide the link in the description so you can go ahead and check it out for yourself
00:44Let's click on the first step which is to download the Tails OS
00:48Simply click on download Tails OS USB image and this will start downloading the image
00:53This will take a little bit of your time. So just be patient and don't you do anything else?
01:00Once your download is complete you can click on keep and this will save the download and
01:05Make sure you always always verify your download it checks for if it was corrupted during download or things like
01:13that
01:14So I am going to open up real quick this will take a little bit of time but it will
01:18make sure the Tails OS operating system is working
01:21As it should be the most secure and the fastest way
01:26Okay, so this is verifying and it is going to take a little bit of your time
01:30Make sure you ready your USB drive because we are going to use our USB drive
01:37It is meant to be used on USB drive, you know
01:40Okay, so it is downloading the best part about Tails OS is that once you unplug it everything is deleted
01:47instantly
01:48Which is very good for privacy focused users and some other people
01:54And I don't want to go in more so much details
01:57Okay, so the verifying is almost complete looks like verification was successful
02:03Now let's go ahead to the third step which is to download Rufus and this you should download this Rufus
02:09not use the other regular Rufus
02:10This is sometimes our special Rufus maybe
02:15Okay, once open you have downloaded both of these files click on open file for Rufus
02:20Say yes to the prompt and say no to the internet option right here because we want to make it
02:30the secure way
02:32It should not connect to the internet for you
02:34Okay, once you have downloaded Rufus and selected the no option
02:39After saying yes to the prompt and now you can plug in your USB drive
02:44I am going to plug in my 8 GB USB drive which I use regularly
02:49And it has Vento installed on it
02:52It is okay
02:53Before doing anything let's make sure we read the instructions clearly
02:57Yep make sure the USB image is actually called .img you can see right here
03:03Now you can select and select your operating system
03:07Let's see if we can change anything
03:10No you cannot change anything here
03:12So is there anything that we need to do
03:15You can enter your password if you are asked for it
03:18Installation will take a little bit again
03:20Okay, click on start and this will destroy everything on the USB
03:24And you will get a bootable USB with TailsOS installed on it
03:27Now while this is writing some image
03:31We need to wait a little bit
03:33Okay, looks like this is it
03:35Now I am just going to speed up this process
03:39Just for you guys
04:16Okay, so I read the next page and there is nothing to be worried about
04:20If you get any problems you can deal with it after reading and doing anything
04:24Okay, now you can close everything on your computer
04:27And your USB is ready to use
04:30So on your computer there are two ways to boot from USB
04:33In my case I am following the article
04:36So I am just gonna hold the shift key while restarting my PC
04:43This will already give me options
04:45Or you can just keep smashing the F12 or one time boot key
04:50On your laptop or your computer
04:52This will give you the option to boot from USB drive
04:55Select the USB drive
04:56And the TailsOS will boot
04:58I am using the default option
05:02Which is the hold shift key from Windows and restart it
05:08You don't need to use that if you are using someone else's computer or PC
05:13Well, if you are using your own Windows device
05:16You can use it and boot into the TailsOS operating system
05:21Well, now let's wait for it to give me the option
05:25This is going to take a little bit of your time
05:28Depends on the speed of your laptop
05:30I have a very old laptop
05:31I am thinking about making a review video of my laptop
05:36Like if you want that video
05:40Ok, I should make a video on review of this laptop
05:43Ok, on here we get the option to use a device
05:48I am just gonna click on it and select the SMI USB disk
05:51This is the one that I need to use it
05:55And this will restart my laptop
05:58And it will boot from the USB
06:02This is going to take a little bit of time
06:05Ok, now it is starting to boot from the USB
06:09And it is giving kind of an error
06:11But that's nothing to worry about
06:13You get three options
06:14And it will auto boot you in the first one
06:17Which is the one that you should use
06:19If you don't get any issues
06:22If you want to troubleshoot
06:23You can use the setup options
06:25And the third option is
06:26I don't know about it
06:27So, the first option it is
06:29Now this is the preparing Tails for first use
06:32Because I am using it for the first time in my life
06:36I have never used Tails before
06:39But I have heard about it
06:41And it is also called the most secure
06:44And trusted operating system
06:47And the ideal choice
06:49If you wanna use it as a portable operating system
06:53And sometimes that you need it
06:55You can use it and trust it
06:58Ok, now we wait
07:01It is booting
07:02My USB is kind of slow
07:04And looks like Tails OS does not come with the wallpaper
07:10Ok, maybe it is a design choice
07:11Here you get the options to use persistent storage
07:15And change some settings
07:17But I am going to use it as it is
07:20Persistent storage is for the ones who want to
07:22You know, keep some files
07:24Change settings and things like that
07:26But I am going with the default one
07:28Because I want the maximum security possible
07:30So, yep
07:33We don't get the wallpapers
07:34And if you press the windows key
07:35You get this option
07:37This is like
07:39What this environment was called
07:43I don't remember it
07:48Yeah
07:49I don't remember its name
07:52Anyway, let's start using the Tails OS
07:55So, here we go
07:56We get some apps
07:58Which are pre-installed
08:00You get two workspaces
08:01This is the Tor Browser
08:02And Tor Connection
08:03If you wanna use the Tor Browser
08:05I highly recommend
08:06Turn on Tor Connection
08:07This which gives you the most secure operation
08:10Or most secure browsing experience
08:14Ok, we get some apps right here
08:16We got the videos
08:17Some utilities options
08:20Yep, these are good for checking or doing some stuff
08:24Day to day stuff
08:25It does not come with the regular browser
08:28Yep, because it is for the safety and security
08:32And all of these apps are 100% open source
08:35Which means they are safe to use
08:37If you are like
08:38Worried about your safety or data privacy
08:42So, this is how you use Tails OS
08:44Anyway, that's been it
08:45Thanks for watching
08:46And I will catch you guys in the next one
08:48Take care, bye bye
08:49Bye
