00:00Alright, what's up Amaya and in this video I'm going to show you a step-by-step tutorial to install
00:05Steam and to play Windows game on Linux
00:07So how are we going to do that? We're going to use some little bit of terminal commands
00:13So all you have to do is just select the first line of the command and paste it right in
00:19the terminal
00:19Type in your password and hit enter
00:22This will automatically update all the packages and all we need to do is copy the second line
00:28And paste it right there, hit enter
00:32This will activate some things so I'm just gonna go ahead and type in drag and drop the third line
00:39Also, we got a little longer so I'm just gonna put the longer version in the description
00:45You can copy all these commands from description and drag and drop them to your terminal like this
00:52Now all we have to do is wait for it until it gives us the option to put another command
01:00Let's see it is downloading some content and upgrading some packages which means it is updating my Linux basically
01:08All you have to do is wait for the upgrade to be done and this is going to take a
01:16little bit of time
01:17Depending on your internet connection and your PC's specifications
01:24And here we go
01:26Looks like our system is now up to date
01:29Now let's go ahead and drag and drop the third line
01:35Okay, I am having some problems with it
01:38Let me just close and open it again
01:42So, yep, we have that again
01:45Need to copy and drag and drop this line
01:49Here we go
01:50Don't worry if you get any error like this
01:53This is basically a package that you need to install
01:56So, don't worry about it
01:58If you get an error, Steam will automatically fix this error
02:01So, nothing to be worried about
02:04Let's go ahead and copy the next one
02:08Here we go
02:09Okay, looks like I have copied the wrong one
02:12First
02:13Let me
02:14Clear this
02:15Here we go
02:16Hit enter and this is going to ask you
02:18It will install Steam
02:19So, type in Y and hit enter
02:22So, you agree
02:23This will take a little bit of your time
02:25So, I am just going to speed this process up
02:27So, you don't have to worry about it
02:29As you can see right from here
02:31These packages that we are first trying to install
02:33Are now being installed through Steam
02:36Let's wait and see what happens
02:47Okay, Steam is now being installed
02:50And looks like it has finished installing
02:53Now, all we need to do is open it up
02:55So, to open it up
02:56All you have to do is go to your app list
02:58And search for Steam
03:00It will be right there
03:01Or simply run this command
03:02And this will open up Steam installer
03:06Click on the install button
03:07And wait for the installation
03:09To do its job
03:10This is basically Steam downloading all of its packages
03:14And upgrading itself
03:16So, let's close everything else
03:18And let's wait for Steam to update
03:43Go on after that
03:44That's where the special projects
04:00Click on the text
04:00Cheers
04:00Closedmän
04:00That means there's a new house
04:00And it's also a new house
04:28Okay
04:29now it looks like steam is properly updated and this is going to install a little bit of
04:35more packages just for linux compatibility so don't worry about it just let it do its job
04:42all you have to do is be patient and everything will just work out
05:00well well well as you can see in the background we have linux of steam's login screen simply open it
05:06up as i have opened steam from my terminal that is why this is running in the terminal so
05:14let me just put up my phone log in my steam account so let's see what it brings us here
05:21we go
05:22logging in and this is taking quite a while and now it is loading user data which means steam
05:30has successfully installed and is just opening up now if i close this terminal it will automatically
05:38turn off steam because i have used terminal to open it so if you don't want to mess with terminal
05:45again
05:45simply search for steam on your in the app sections and it will open up again it might ask you
05:53to log
05:54in again so make sure you check that keep me logged in on your phone if you're using your phone
05:59to sign
06:00in steam authenticator app or just log in your details and click on keep me signed in as you can
06:08see now let me just full screen it so before you run any windows games on linux there is a
06:14setting that
06:14you should turn on just go to your steam settings page here we need to find an option which is
06:20steam
06:21compatibility and this will it's not there it is right here in the menu as you can see this is
06:30the
06:30compatibility in the compatibility section just turn on the switch and this will automatically restart and
06:38update proton or install proton if you don't already have one all you have to do is wait for it
06:43this will
06:44download and install everything that you need on proton and this will automatically open up steam again
06:50let me try again opening up steam and you can see this is unpacking steam linux and downloading some
07:00container files okay this should be proton okay this is steam linux runtime container
07:10these are just some files about the steam's proton compatibility layer so you can use your or play
07:18your windows games on linux don't worry about it it might ask you to log in again so just keep
07:25your steam
07:25authenticator app ready and it'll sign in let me sign in again
07:38okay right now we have steam working here we go all we have to do is click on steam and
07:46we need to go to your settings again just to make sure that compatibility is turned on as you can
07:52see
07:52the compatibility is turned on and you get some different options of proton depends on whichever game
07:59you are trying to play you might have to change these settings but all i do is just do a
08:05quick google
08:06search i search for the best steam proton let's see which one is the best version best steam proton layer
08:17let's search for it okay so google says proton experimental is generally the most recommended and up-to-date
08:26version of proton so we're just gonna turn that on if you uh you want to turn it on so
08:34let's go ahead to
08:35steam and select for proton experimental but i really like to keep the default settings as usual
08:41because i really really and any get problems i really don't get any problems with that okay now you can
08:50go to your library and install games that you really want to play these are all games
08:56these games are mostly available on windows and now you can use your windows games or you can use
09:02your steam account to play windows game on your linux without any problems the only problem was
09:09you need to turn on the architecture that i used in the first or second command to
09:15turn on and now you can properly install steam and play games
09:18of windows anyway that's been it thanks for watching and i will catch you guys in the next one take
