00:00And Mike Cugno from CBS4 is on the Toyota of Hollywood Hotline.
00:04When's the last time you've had a Kit Kat?
00:07Oh, man.
00:08I might sneak one in on Halloween.
00:12One or two of the little minis here or there.
00:15Seems doubtful.
00:16But, yeah, I can't remember.
00:19Kit Kats aren't even, like, that great.
00:22What's your go-to candy bar?
00:23I know you don't eat candy bars.
00:24What would be your go-to?
00:26Crunch.
00:27I used to love Crunch Bars.
00:29And when you go to the movies, you get, like, the little crunch.
00:31Like, the little crumbles.
00:32You put it in a bunch of crunch and you throw it in the popcorn.
00:35I don't like that, but I do like the Bunch of Crunch.
00:38Okay, well, you can just sit there and be wrong, but it's fine.
00:41A little salt and sweet.
00:42Yeah, but, I mean, come on.
00:43What are we doing here?
00:44I mean, popcorn kind of stands pretty well on its own.
00:48Bunch of Crunch kind of stands pretty well on its own.
00:51This is my take on affogados, by the way.
00:53Because coffee's great on its own.
00:56Ice cream's great on its own.
00:57Why would I want to dampen either one of them by putting them together?
01:02And so that's why I don't like affogados.
01:03That's why I don't like dipping the Bunch of Crunch into the popcorn.
01:07But that's like saying cookies and cream.
01:09Cream is good on its own.
01:10No, it's not.
01:11What do you mean cream is good on its own?
01:13Where?
01:13When have you had a bowl of cream?
01:15Well, the cream inside the Oreo is delicious.
01:17And the cookie is delicious, too.
01:18Why mix them together?
01:19Well, because they go great together.
01:21No, yeah, because they don't stand well on their own.
01:24That's the whole point of it.
01:25When have you ever said, you know what I'd like right now?
01:28A bowl of cream.
01:30You know what?
01:30I can tell you just went on some bougie vacation.
01:32Because your first combo that came to your head was avocado.
01:35Not even like peanut butter and jelly or cookies and cream.
01:38Like, what happened to you?
01:40You've changed in these last two weeks.
01:43Also, the problem is Bunch of Crunch.
01:44I'd finish it before the previews were over.
01:46So, there's also a way to, you know, elongate the snack throughout the movie.
01:50Today is also National Sugar Cookie Day.
01:52I can't imagine you had one of those in a minute.
01:57Why'd you call me today?
01:59So, let me ask you this.
02:00I want to talk about the Marlins.
02:01I really do because they're worthy of being talked about.
02:04But let me just ask you something that I asked Solana at the beginning of the show.
02:08If LeBron chooses Miami, what's your reaction going to be?
02:12And if LeBron doesn't choose Miami, what's your reaction going to be?
02:16So, if he chooses Miami, my reaction is going to be buckle up.
02:20Because I was an intern when the decision happened.
02:23In fact, I was on South.
02:24I can remember perfectly.
02:25I was on South Beach with Adam Cooper.
02:27I was his intern.
02:28His Joe Rose's intern.
02:29And Coop ditched me to go to Dwayne Wade's watch party.
02:33He was going to get Dwayne Wade's reaction when LeBron made his.
02:36So, he left me at a random sports bar, no car in South Beach.
02:40But it just buckled up.
02:43Because I remember also the piece of advice.
02:45Because I was also a producer at that time.
02:47And it was the heat or the lead.
02:50It was that simple.
02:52Like, no matter what, the heat were the lead story.
02:54And that's how it would be again.
02:56So, if he comes to Miami, the heat will likely be the lead story night in and night out for
03:01this market.
03:04I don't want to say, like, no matter what's going on.
03:06But it would be hard to top them as a story with LeBron James coming back.
03:09Because they're in instant contender status again.
03:12But would you put them at the top of the East?
03:14I would.
03:14I think they're better than the Knicks.
03:16If they had LeBron, Bam, and Giannis.
03:18I don't know.
03:19I think it would honestly be, like, some sort of, kind of like a horse race at the top of
03:24the East.
03:25Because I think a lot of the teams would be very close.
03:27Like, you have the Knicks and you have the 76ers.
03:29I think I would drop Cleveland down a peg because of this.
03:32If they got him, I think they'd move to the front of the line.
03:35But I think it'd be a horse race where it's, like, you got these teams at 55 to 60 wins.
03:40And kind of just see who ends up slotting there.
03:42One, two, three, or four.
03:43But it would come down to, you know, between probably the top of the East decided by a couple games.
03:48Not by much.
03:49But if they don't get him, the reaction would be, I want to say, uh-oh.
03:55But it's, like, now the East is top-heavy in a way that I think the West would be top
04:00-heavy.
04:01You would have a couple teams, especially if you went to a team like Cleveland.
04:05Because I think Cleveland, New York, Philly now are just kind of at this same tier.
04:12And if you don't want a guy who's going to win a championship or has been there and done that,
04:16LeBron's the guy.
04:17And now the Knicks also have those guys, where, as if he went out West, he'd be kind of, I
04:23think, behind.
04:24Even if he went to, like, the Warriors, he'd obviously still be behind, I think, the Spurs and OKC out
04:29in that conference.
04:31What's the reaction if LeBron does end up choosing Miami, Kunio?
04:34We haven't really been able to figure out, are people going to have this same animosity towards the Miami Heat
04:41with LeBron on it once again?
04:43Like they did in 2010. Probably not to the same extent, because the circumstances are different.
04:49But can you see this same, like, target on their back if he comes and he joins Bam and Giannis?
04:56I don't think the national vitriol will be there like it was last time, right out the gate, because of
05:03everything that went down with the decision.
05:05But I think Miami fans in general will invite it, because that's kind of, like, what we like.
05:13And that us-against-the-world mentality, I'd never seen anything like that, where it really felt like night in
05:20and night out.
05:21It was Miami Heat fans versus everybody else.
05:24And maybe a little bit of that comes, but I think LeBron maybe is a little different person from then
05:31to now.
05:31It's not like, you know, as he says, like, his college years were here, where it's almost like a brash
05:36thing, where, oh, I'm just going to team up with D. Wade and Bosh, and we're going to go not
05:42one, not two, not three, not four.
05:44I think it's a little different now.
05:45I think his role changes no matter what team he goes on.
05:48I think for each team, it'll be a little different.
05:50But yeah, I don't think the national media will hate Miami like it once did.
05:54I think LeBron's just kind of a polarizing guy in general.
05:57You'll have the haters, and then you'll have his defenders as usual, but it won't be like it was in
06:012011.
06:02But I was just curious, your reaction, not necessarily what the league's reaction is going to be, but your reaction,
06:07will you be elated if LeBron is coming here as a Heat fan?
06:11And will you be dejected if he goes to Cleveland?
06:16I will, I would be elated if he came here, because I think, I just think the story's great.
06:22It's like, it's LeBron 2.0, but it's a different version of LeBron, and you have a different cast of
06:28characters around him.
06:30I think it's going to be, I think it'd be awesome.
06:31If he went to, if he went to Cleveland, to me, I think that's like the least exciting storyline of
06:37all the options.
06:38So I just, man, okay.
06:40But it would be pretty obvious that it would be his farewell season, though, if he went to Cleveland.
06:44Right, but it's like, but that's it.
06:46It's just like he's going home for one last night.
06:48Because imagine this, if he goes to Philly, he can do something that I don't think we've ever seen, maybe
06:54in sports ever, where he goes to Miami, wins a championship, goes back to Cleveland, wins a championship, goes to
06:59LA, brings him a championship, and then would go to Philly and possibly be a champion.
07:04And then I think, then I think really the Michael Jordan conversation has to stop.
07:09Because if he could go to, the championships followed him, wherever he went, there they went.
07:15He went to, if he went to four cities and brought them a title, and they were there because of
07:20him.
07:20Right, if he made some sort of NBA tour, and every single place he stopped at, he won a title.
07:26Yeah, that's something that.
07:27Yeah, that's why I think Cleveland is kind of like.
07:30One in Washington, yeah.
07:32Right.
07:32I mean, what were you doing, Jordan?
07:34Like, come on.
07:35You had everything you needed.
07:37I think it would be great if MJ came back for one more season with the Bulls.
07:41Like, let's do LeBron one final one in Cleveland this season, and MJ.
07:46MJ sits in the corner with the cigar and just launches three.
07:50I just saw Barry Jackson tweet out that Dolphins have one national TV game in the preseason.
07:56Giants hit Dolphins.
07:57But then it says ESPN, which owns NFL Network, is going to black that game out locally, giving CBS4 exclusivity
08:04for that second preseason game.
08:05Look at you swinging the ball on Cuno.
08:08Well, you know, that's all me.
08:12All right, let's talk Marlins.
08:13So, Marlins are worthy of being talked about.
08:16Do you think this is some sort of aberration, or do you think, hey, this is a playoff roster?
08:23No, I think this is a playoff roster, and it's not because it's like, well, if one thing falls apart
08:30on this team, I think they're in trouble.
08:32I think they're showing there's different ways to win.
08:36They can power their way back in the ballgames.
08:39I mean, Herberto Hernandez hits that big eighth inning home run the other day.
08:43Kyle Stowers has pop.
08:45Joe Mack, not the greatest hitter, but there's power there, too.
08:49Otto Lopez, for as much as he's been an average hitter, he can leave the park.
08:53I think there's a lot of different ways the Marlins can beat you.
08:55And I think maybe the most overlooked way that they're probably getting all of this done might be defensively.
09:01And I think you just look to Joe Mack joining this team behind the dish and what that's meant for
09:08this organization.
09:09I think that's maybe one of the more underrated call-ups of the year when it's all said and done.
09:16If the Marlins don't make it, I think you can see a clear change in his team once he got
09:21back there.
09:21Yeah, that's what I was going to ask you about, Cuneo.
09:23Is that not the craziest part about this entire turnaround from this team?
09:28It's not that they got their guys who were injured to start the season healthy.
09:34It's not the fact that some of the prospects have kind of turned into guys we expected them to.
09:40It's not even the fact that the Bendix trials are starting to come to fruition.
09:47It's the fact that they called up a catcher who, in a month, is leading the MLB in catching guys,
09:56stealing second.
09:57And that was like the spark to this entire turnaround.
10:01It really is.
10:02So, you look at the pitching.
10:04Now, outside of Max Meyer, because obviously he started most of the year unbeaten.
10:09You know, basically what it means is anytime your starter puts like a guy on first, the other team has
10:17to really think about how aggressive they want to be against the Marlins, knowing that Joe Mack is back there
10:24and can kind of eliminate a leadoff guy pretty easily.
10:28They don't have to necessarily get him at, you know, in the batter's box.
10:31There is that potential that they could be thrown out at second, and it's higher than most teams.
10:37He's at about 40% right now for throwing guys out.
10:41So, just that element.
10:43Like, those are the things that – this is the thing that made me fall in love with the 03
10:47Marlins team was how small ball they played and how the little things, the fundamental things were always there.
10:52And it was kind of like a really unique team put together.
10:55And that's where I look at this team.
10:57I think there are things they, you know, need to work on, but they're still young and growing.
11:02But the fact that they're able to have fun and they're showing that their talent can win games and they've
11:08hit on some of these guys, that's to me what is really makes me believe that they're going to be
11:14a playoff team come the end of the season.
11:16I just really think they're going to be there in the mix.
11:20And at the least, they're going to be a tough out, like a very big problem for other teams who
11:26might be trying to make the playoff.
11:27You're not considering doing a feature on Joe Mack, are you?
11:31Because you did one on Matt Mervis and wrecked him.
11:36Anyone else?
11:37Would you like me to do a feature on somebody?
11:39Like, am I the mush?
11:40Like, is there anyone who would like me to do a feature on Solana?
11:44We feature Solana most Sundays on that.
11:46I know, I know, I know.
11:48And look what it did to Uruguay.
11:50I mean, they haven't been the same in the world.
11:53Arroneous.
11:54Arroneous.
11:54In fact, it infected USA against Belgium.
11:58Like, I thought I was watching Uruguay out there when I was watching that match.
12:02That's right.
12:02Well, you know, it's funny.
12:03The last question I had to Solana the other day on the show was, real quick, now that Uruguay is
12:08out, who are you rocking with?
12:09He's like, okay, of course, the United States.
12:11And of course they lose four.
12:12And now he's speaking great about Joe Mack, too.
12:16You're killing us.
12:17You're killing us, Solana.
12:19Hey, somebody points out on the chat, and this is fair.
12:21If Jordan was able to just pick the best teams and move every couple years, because it was a different
12:27league back then.
12:28You couldn't do that.
12:29They're saying if Jordan was able to do that, he'd have racked up a championship wherever he went as well.
12:35I mean, he didn't.
12:37He didn't.
12:37He didn't, but we've seen guys like KD moves around from team to team.
12:44Well, that's why he's not in the conversation of who's the greatest of all time.
12:48Right, but he's one of the greatest scorers of all time, and he has a title.
12:51And he was the guy who went to Golden State to go do it, but when he went to Brooklyn,
12:56I mean, they were like a toenail away from going.
13:00But they missed their opportunity, missed opportunity when he was in Phoenix, or hasn't really gotten there with the Rockets.
13:07So, I mean, I guess, yeah.
13:10But also, why would Jordan have left any of those Bulls teams?
13:14They were loaded.
13:15He wouldn't have, because we saw Jordan without Scottie Pippen, never won anything.
13:19So, without Scottie and Harry.
13:21No, no, no, no.
13:21He goes and teams up with Charles Barkley?
13:23I mean, they left their way to a championship.
13:26I mean, that's just the reality of it.
13:27I'm sorry.
13:28I know how much you love LeBron.
13:29I do as well.
13:30But MJ is far away the better basketball player.
13:34I don't know.
13:35I don't know.
13:35I think they would have gotten, like, Detroit Pistons, like, rough and tumble, like, with those teams.
13:41I think you still would have been tough back then.
13:43I won't necessarily think they would have walked away with titles every single year.
13:50Cugno.
13:51What?
13:52Cugno.
13:53Yeah.
13:54Look, I'm a young man.
13:55I don't remember the 80s and 90s.
13:56I know.
13:56That's right.
13:56I mean, this is ridiculous.
13:58No, don't back down, Cugno.
13:59No, you're right.
14:00I don't know if you saw on Instagram the other night.
14:01I posted a video from the show.
14:03I ordered in Flanagan's, and I'm so old that instead of French fries, I got coleslaw.
14:10How do you feel about coleslaw?
14:12Oh, no.
14:13No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
14:15Because you're young.
14:16Yeah.
14:17Not that you would do French fries, because you wouldn't eat that, but you would get vegetables.
14:20You would never get coleslaw.
14:22No.
14:23Never get coleslaw.
14:24Young people don't like coleslaw.
14:25Old people, like, I...
14:27It literally is like salad, swimming, and mayo.
14:29Yeah.
14:30But it's not even salad.
14:31It's like the worst possible type of salad.
14:33Just cabbage.
14:34It's like the bottom of the mixed bag that you buy from Publix.
14:37You know what I mean?
14:38Yeah.
14:38I don't agree with you.
14:40But I did agree with you when I was your age, and then I got to be my age, and
14:43I'm like,
14:44ooh, cold, refreshing coleslaw.
14:47You just need the fiber any way you can get it.
14:49Oh, I mean, my favorite smoothie is Miralax.
14:55But Cuneo would never eat coleslaw because it's just mayo.
14:58It's mayo and sugar.
15:00Yeah.
15:02What are you going to do?
15:03Cuneo, do you keep your car clean?
15:07No.
15:08No?
15:08Oh, wow.
15:08We had it.
15:09Life of a reporter, like, every reporter's car is just a mess.
15:14You got credentials everywhere.
15:15You got clothes everywhere.
15:18Yeah.
15:18Like, rain jackets, umbrellas, hats, yeah, food, because, like, sometimes you're eating
15:25on the go a lot.
15:26No, my car is not clean.
15:27Did not see that coming.
15:29We had talked about you having, like, a fastidious life and a clean car.
15:36No, everything else, like, for me, is usually pretty clean.
15:39Like, the car is, like, my deep, dark secret of where it's all messy.
15:45If you open my car, it's just a mess.
15:47I had you going, like, every Monday morning before going to work, el car wash.
15:52Right, vacuuming it out.
15:53Every Monday he does that.
15:54You can't get his week started.
15:56The problem with el car wash is you got to do it yourself.
15:59Yeah.
16:00Not my wheelhouse either.
16:02All right, Mike Cuneo from CBS4.
16:04We love you, Cuneo.
16:05Love you guys.
16:06All right.
