00:03Amigos de Diario de las Américas, me encuentro con Jacob Moscovich y Zach Luker por el estreno de Elle, la
00:08precuela de Legally Blonde en Prime Video.
00:18Miles and Dustin are opposite.
00:20At a glance, one is athlete, the other is skater, but there is something more underneath.
00:25How do your characters subvert the cliché two-dimensional tropes that we usually saw in that media in the 90s?
00:33Yeah, that's great. It's a great question.
00:36Well, I feel like all of the characters in the show sort of lend themselves to, you know, the premise
00:42of the original film,
00:43which is things are not what they seem, you know, from the outside.
00:46And I think everyone has sort of a subversion that they're getting at, at least for Miles.
00:51I was like, I, when I first got the job, I was literally in my trailer on the first day
00:55and I called a friend because I was like,
00:57I don't know how to play the jock. I don't know what this means, you know, like I never felt
01:01really like I was that guy.
01:03I never played sports. I was never, you know, I, I don't know, I'm very sensitive as a person.
01:09So I was like, how am I going to do this? And he's like, you know, like that's Legally Blonde
01:13is that it doesn't quite fit.
01:14So playing that contradiction, I feel like has been a lot of fun and the writers have given us a
01:17lot to play with in that.
01:19So, yeah, I think for Dustin, I mean, like it doesn't really matter where certain characters are.
01:25I mean, to Dustin, for Dustin, to me, initially when I was reading it, he didn't, he didn't feel like
01:31he fit into any one particular character archetype.
01:34And what I really liked about the fact that his core wasn't necessarily anything that felt too archetypal, but felt
01:39like it was about this, this kind of conviction and this kind of weariness with the state of the world,
01:44but also this drive to kind of this drive to change things and to make things better in his community
01:49and connected to that part of him was, was, was really lovely.
01:52But then I also think no matter where somebody lands inside the world of archetypes, having kind of this pink
01:57bomb dropped into your life and kind of L appear in front of you immediately,
02:01kind of like subverts whatever the character's expectations for whatever, at the very least, the next 15 minutes of their
02:07lives are going to look like the kind of whole run of the show.
02:10And I think L's existence in his world is enough to kind of shake things up and make him kind
02:15of think more deeply about his place in his community.
02:18What's happening with the support staff?
02:20Principal Anderson fudges facts on official paperwork.
02:22We need to break into his office to prove it.
02:23She could actually be used.
02:25How did you get immersed in this mid-90s high school atmosphere?
02:29Did you take inspiration from movies, from series of that time to build your characters?
02:35I think we all were listening to music of, that was sort of culturally resonant at, at that time and
02:42in Seattle.
02:43And then the rest of it is, I feel like, you know, the wardrobe and the set deck, there's a
02:47lot of elements that I feel like are coming together for us.
02:49And then we're also, I think we're all doing a lot of research.
02:52And so everyone was sort of bringing that stuff in and hopefully, you know, the world.
02:56Nice umbrella.
02:57Thanks, it's an heirloom.
02:59She's joking.
03:00You look like an idiot.
03:01Miles and Dustin are key components in Al's journey.
03:05Without spoilers, what do you think your character brings to her that she keeps in essence in the future?
03:14I'd say for Dustin, it's something that maybe feels like it exists in the general kind of, in the general
03:21mental consensus of kind of Seattle at the time.
03:23It would have been completely outside of Elle's experience of the world when she arrives in it is this idea
03:27that you can't always trust authority figures and adults to have your best interests at heart and even necessarily to
03:33do the right thing.
03:33And that because of that, you need to know what you believe in and understand it and be willing to
03:39stand up for it because nobody's going to do that work for you, except for you.
03:45And seeing those seeds kind of planted by the writers in season one and seeing where that eventually takes her
03:52in the movie was like really, really wonderful to me.
03:56Yeah, in terms of what Miles gives her, it feels like they're learning from each other, you know, quite a
04:02bit.
04:03There's a great scene in episode seven, without any spoilers, where I think as he's moving further along in his
04:10journey of sort of, you know, separating from, you know, his parents and sort of the expectations that have been
04:17placed on him, you know, growing up, he sort of imparts that wisdom to her too.
04:23And, but I think he learned it from her, so there's sort of like, it's sort of, you know, they're
04:27working on each other as he's sort of answering questions about himself.
04:30I think he's able to be that sort of grounded, steady, curious presence with her.
04:41Did no one ever tell you that we don't do posers here?
04:43So to wrap, one reason to watch Elle on Prime Video.
04:48Oh, gosh.
04:49Lexi Minasur.
04:51Yeah, Lexi.
04:52It's a great reason.
04:54Thank you so much.
04:55Have a lovely day.
04:57Thank you.
04:57Thank you very much.
