The nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards have been announced, with medical drama The Pitt leading the field with 25 nominations, followed closely by comedy series Hacks with 24. The impressive showing places both productions among the strongest contenders ahead of the awards ceremony in Los Angeles this September.

Several British performers also earned major recognition, including Matthew Rhys, who received two lead acting nominations for separate projects. Riz Ahmed, Carey Mulligan, Gary Oldman and Rufus Sewell also secured nominations across various acting categories, highlighting a strong international presence in this year's lineup.

One of the biggest surprises was the absence of Stranger Things from the major drama categories. Although the hit Netflix series received seven nominations, all were in technical fields, leaving it out of the race for Best Drama Series. Another notable omission was The Bear star Jeremy Allen White, who failed to receive a lead acting nomination despite winning the award in the previous two years.

Meanwhile, Euphoria saw limited recognition in the top categories, with Zendaya standing as the show's only acting nominee. The winners of the 78th Emmy Awards will be revealed during the ceremony on September 14, where television's biggest names will compete for the industry's highest honours.
