00:00Wales has a thriving tourism industry. Some areas of the country totally rely on tourists
00:07through the summer months and provides thousands of jobs for local residents. The Welsh Government
00:13have been toying with the idea of a so-called tourism tax for a few years and the wheels
00:17look to finally be in motion as it's set to be proposed and discussed in the Senate
00:22later on this month. It looks to mirror a number of holiday destinations with similar
00:27regulations in place like Greece, Spain and Portugal and with overnight stays being given
00:32a visitor levy thought to be roughly a few pounds. Nothing can be put in place for a
00:38while as the law is debated and scrutinised. It could be passed by the Senate next year
00:43and put forward to local authorities by 2026 and then start being charged in 2027.
00:50It would be optional for local authorities to implement the charge but the Welsh Conservatives
00:54say that it will risk jobs in tourist areas.
