00:00UMNO Information Chief Azalina Osman Said says the decision on Najib Razak's royal pardon bid
00:06rests with the Federal Territories Pardon Sport and the Yang Dipertuan Agong.
00:12Speaking at a press conference at the Asian International Arbitration Centre,
00:17Azalina said the power to free someone from prison falls under the king's constitutional powers
00:22and has nothing to do with politics.
00:25Her remarks come a day after Najib's son, Nazifuddin, said
00:29a strong Barisan Nasional performance in the Johor State election would signal support for Najib
00:35and calls for him to receive a royal pardon.
00:39Azalina's comments followed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's remarks
00:42that Barisan Nasional had been dragged into the Johor election
00:46by parties seeking power to secure Najib's release.
00:50Najib, 72, is serving a six-year prison sentence in the SRC International case
00:56after his original 12-year jail term was halved by the Federal Territories Pardon Sport
01:01in February 2024.
01:04He was separately sentenced to 15 years jail for abuse of power
01:08and money laundering involving 1MDB funds,
01:11a conviction he is appealing.
