00:00UMNO's struggle to regain political dominance is hindered by its continued defense of former

00:10Shaza Shukri of the International Islamic University of Malaysia said UMNO's refusal

00:15to stop sheltering Najib, despite his guilty verdict in court, is its major fault.

00:21She added that portraying Najib as innocent and attempting to save him only worsens the

00:25party's position.

00:27Meanwhile, political scientist Wong Chin Huat said UMNO failed to acknowledge that its losses

00:32in the past two general elections were rooted in the 1MDB scandal, which alienated middle-ground

00:37Malays.

00:39Wong argued that UMNO must recognize this issue, cut ties with Najib, or ask him to

00:44retire from politics.

00:46Recently, former UMNO member Shahril Hamdan echoed these sentiments, saying the party's

00:51failure to address the 1MDB fallout has strained its relationship with Pakatan Harapan.

00:57Central Territory's Barisat Nasional Chief Johar Ghani also said that BN, with UMNO

01:02at its core, suffers from delusions, amnesia, inertia, and arrogance which prevent it from

01:08reclaiming its former strength.
