There will be “no tolerance of hate crime” as a busy weekend of Pride celebrations take place in London, the Metropolitan Police has warned.

00:00Organisers say that more than 35,000 marchers from more than 600 diverse groups are taking part in a procession
00:09which is running from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Place via Piccadilly.

00:36Pubs and bars across Westminster are open as usual and are expected to be very busy.
00:42Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Saville, who is leading the policing operation for Pride in London, said the aim is for
00:49anyone who attends to be able to safely and securely enjoy the events,
00:54which will include a parade and entertainment stages.
00:57Mr Saville said the force's priority is to provide a visible, proportionate and effective policing presence that is ready to
01:06respond swiftly to any incidents.
01:08He added Pride is hugely significant for the LGBT plus communities and those attending should be able to do so
01:16free from discrimination, abuse or fear,
01:19saying there will be no tolerance of hate crime and that the force urges anyone who is a victim of
01:25it to speak to an officer immediately so they can take action.
