00:00China is trying to take over the Panama Canal, and we're not going to let that happen, okay?
00:11And that was not part of the script, because I don't really have a script, because this thing doesn't work.
00:17I even had a conversation with Theodore Roosevelt.
00:21I said, what did you think about the Panama Canal?
00:24Do you consider that your greatest achievement?
00:26How do you feel about the fact that the Democrats gave the Panama Canal away to Panama for one dollar?
00:35You know?
00:37He built the Panama Canal, preceded really by a man who was actually, he was the tariff king, William McKinley.
00:46He was the president, and they took his name off Mount McKinley, and I put it back on because it
00:51deserved it.
00:52Put it back on.
00:54But McKinley actually, and he was assassinated, but he made tremendous amounts of money, made our country very rich.
01:01And then Teddy Roosevelt, as the vice president, got in, and he did some incredible things.
01:06But one of them, I think one of the most amazing, maybe a lot of people would say the parks.
01:10You could say a lot of different elements of his success are incredible.
01:15But he built the Panama Canal.
01:17It was the most expensive project to this date, if you bring the dollars forward, ever built in history.
01:2438,000 people died.
01:26They died 95% from mosquitoes, malaria.
01:3195%.
01:31You expected almost to die.
01:33They paid workers from the United States.
01:35Mostly, they came in, and mostly, I must say, men.
01:38It was a little different time.
01:40Teddy would have men and women, but they had all men.
01:44And they paid them massive amounts of money, more than they were making as workers in the United States.
01:51It's such a fascinating thing, the Panama Canal.
01:53I've studied it long and hard.
01:55And when they gave it away, $1.
01:58$1.
01:59But they died from the mosquito, and they died from the snake.
02:02They have a viper, a snake, that if you get bit, you're in trouble.
02:06If you get bit, you are dead.
02:07You are dead.
02:08And that got about, that wiped out about 5%.
02:11We lost 38,000 people building the Panama Canal.
02:15Our people.
02:1638,000 people died building the Panama Canal.
02:20It opened, and from day one, it was very successful.
02:23And we gave it away.
02:25We gave it away.
02:26It was the most expensive thing we ever built, and it was also the most profitable thing we ever built.
02:32That's a nice combination.
02:33A little bit like Venezuela.
02:35We did a good job in Venezuela.
02:40But we're actually doing equally as well with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
02:47Maybe you've heard of it.
02:49But think of it.
02:51The Panama Canal.
02:53So we gave it away.
02:53The first thing they did, you know what they did?
02:56They raised the prices for the ships by four times, and they didn't lose one ship.
03:02And then they raised it again twice, and they didn't lose one ship.
03:07All they did is make tremendous amounts of money for years and years.
03:11How stupid was that?
03:13And now China is trying to take over the Panama Canal, and we're not going to let that happen.
03:21Okay?
03:26And that was not part of the script, because I don't really have a script, because this thing doesn't work.
