00:00Hello and welcome to Nerdy Gaming with a Rabid Beaver. I'm your host, the elusive Rabid Beaver.
00:05I hope you guys are doing well in the world of gaming or wherever you guys are at.
00:08Please pay no attention to the crap I have in the background here other than my comic book studio stuff
00:13that's up and available behind me.
00:15But we have been remodeling and we've got a ton of trash in this room right now and also got
00:19a bunch of stuff that's got to go, got to be going, going to be going through in the next
00:24few days.
00:25Good Lord, I can't speak tonight. But we've been having a lot of fun out here.
00:30And guys, I'm going to tell you, today's kind of some sad, sad news has come across the board the
00:35last couple of days from Sony.
00:37Number one, they're going to be killing physical media disc in 2026 through 2028.
00:45They're going to be dwindling down all the way through and then there's going to be no more media, apparently,
00:49that's going to be available on a disc for you guys coming in the future.
00:53And that's kind of a sad place to be because if we go into an all digital world, just like
00:59Sony did with the licensing deal that they had with their video services that just got shut down not even
01:05a week ago, you're going to lose your right to own the media.
01:11And I think that's where a lot of us people are having a problem with this decision that Sony is
01:17making.
01:17See, less than 10 years ago, when the PS4 was still out and active, they made a decision then that
01:24if you wanted to trade your game or let a friend borrow your game and play that game on your
01:29PS4, you could do that.
01:31Now you won't be able to do that.
01:33You won't be able to, um, how do they say, share your profile with anybody?
01:40You won't be able to profile swap with anybody.
01:42Your console has to be specifically engaged to you according to the articles that I read today.
01:48And if you sign up on a different console, you have to repurchase the license for that specific console moving
01:56forward.
01:56So, and here's where it gets kind of out of whack for me is because if they decide tomorrow that
02:03the license on the game you just bought today, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto 6, whatever you bought today,
02:10if they decide that the servers are going to get shut down and the license is going to get done
02:17away with,
02:18you're not going to be able to download that game, play that game, use that game without repurchasing a license
02:23for it or going through a different service to have that license restored.
02:28So it doesn't really make sense here, guys, and it doesn't make dollars for them to do this.
02:34However, we have entered the last digital age with Sony, I do believe.
02:39I think this is a horrible move on Sony's part.
02:41I think this is a bad, bad move on Sony's part because you've got millions of consumers and millions of
02:48users who still would like to have physical media in the future for preservation purposes.
02:55And there's a lot of people who are sitting here saying, well, eventually the games are getting so big that
03:00we're going to be able to put them on like an SSD or a hard drive somehow.
03:04And you'll just go in and pick the hard drive up and that'll be the physical media for that game.
03:07Uh, and that is a very likely possibility in the future.
03:11However, I don't see that coming.
03:13I think that it's just going to be straight product key codes from here on out and you will never
03:18own that game.
03:19You will only own the rights to it for a short period of time.
03:23And then when they decide that that game is over with the done, it's going to be over with and
03:26done for you as well.
03:29They're also going to be closing the PS3 store and the PS Vita store.
03:33They finally gave the end date on those for you guys that don't know that are out there.
03:37And, uh, I still purchase stuff from time to time off the PS3 store.
03:41There's still a couple of things that I want to get purchased from the PS3 store before it officially closes
03:45down.
03:46Um, I am alive as one of them.
03:48Uh, but I I'm, I'm to a point now to where I think that they should put it on a
03:53disc and preserve everything that's happened from the PS3 store so that you can buy the disc to put it
03:59in.
04:00So you can see all the games that were available for it as a archiving project for it.
04:05But the way that it is now, the, the system has, uh, been dwindling down for the past couple of
04:11years and they've recently got to a point to where it's got really less than 2000 titles available to it
04:18now.
04:18Uh, and that's from all platforms, PS1, PS2, PS3, uh, some of the PS4 cross play that has PS3 available
04:26to it.
04:27And, uh, some of the classics, some of the indie games.
04:32So it's to a point now to where it's nowhere like it was in its former glory.
04:38And I think that they need to have preservation purposes done so that it can be like it was in
04:44its former glory.
04:45The way that it is now with the search system is you go in and you get the letters and
04:48you scroll back and forth, just like on PS4.
04:51But it does not deem the way that the original store was.
04:55We need to have an original store, an updated store, and then the last store on kind of an archive
05:00file.
05:01And I think that that would be something that people would be interested in seeing in the future, how we've
05:06progressed.
05:07Another thing was PlayStation home.
05:09Now there's been a lot of revivals with PS1 group on PlayStation home and you can open it for your
05:15PC and use it for your PC.
05:17Uh, but for PlayStation three, uh, we know that it got killed way back when.
05:22And, um, I think that that's one of the things that they tried a lot of this stuff on to
05:27see if it was going to slide into the next generation where they use it as a Guinea pig and
05:32PlayStation home actually is one of those things that I believe Sony should invest in to bring back.
05:37I think if you already had a PlayStation home and you already had a PlayStation, um, home account, that anything
05:44you purchase from the PlayStation home account should be yours.
05:46They did the same thing with PlayStation home that they're doing now with the licensing deals on everything.
05:51So I'm just ranting a little bit today.
05:54I'm, I'm really upset, but I think our future is really going to be dependent upon the innovators that we
05:59have now.
06:00So if there's a company out there, or if there is an individual out there who is willing and bold
06:06enough and brave enough to stand up to the billion dollar industry, that is the gaming industry currently and say,
06:12I think we need to make it affordable.
06:14I think we need to make it affordable for gamers.
06:17I need, I think that we should make it affordable for the next generation of gamers.
06:20And I think we can do everything that we're doing now and even better with things moving forward.
06:26And I've, I've advocated for this for a while, but I'm going to advocate for it again today.
06:31I think right now, Sega, this is the time when you enter the market.
06:36I think this is the time when you come out with a new console, whether it's a Dreamcast 2 or
06:41whether it's, um, you know, a brand new console that you want to name, whatever you want to name it.
06:46I think Sega, you have the opportunity right now to get ahead of the game inside the market and do
06:52everything that these companies are not and making your name in this industry and splashing again and bringing you out
07:00of the flames, like a fiery Phoenix and bringing you out of the ashes and making you rise again.
07:06You guys are doing great with software, but I think it's time the hardware game sees what Sega is available
07:11to do once again.
07:13Um, and I, and I'm a firm advocate for this because I personally believe we've gotten to the best of
07:19the best that we're going to get without it being almost real life to where you're, you're actually put in
07:25a true VR situation and whatever you're playing is actually happening in real life to you.
07:30Um, and I don't see us going forward from this current console generation, the way that they're going, the way
07:36that they're wanting to move it with it being successful.
07:38I think there's going to be a lot of backlash and a lot of flop and I already see a
07:42lot of consumers, a lot of people that are upset over this move that PlayStation has started to make for
07:47one, you're, you're upsetting your loyal fan base.
07:51You've upset your, I mean, the DMR stuff that you did just a couple of weeks ago has upset the
07:56loyal fan base PlayStation.
07:58And I don't think that you understand the repercussions that have come from that.
08:04You immediately reversed on that.
08:06Now you're getting the fan base upset again about something that is near and dear to their heart.
08:12And that's the gaming industry and having physical games so that they can preserve them and play them anytime they
08:16want and they can go back to them.
08:18Uh, and we've gotten to a place now to where it's, you will only rent this, you will not own
08:23this and you will buy it, but you'll have no rights to it in the future.
08:27And I think that's a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous place to be.
08:32If you guys are out here in the world of gaming, I mean, I, I 100% believe that it
08:37is one of the most dangerous things that we are asking of our consumers now, because where does it stop?
08:46If it starts here in gaming, where does it start?
08:49What about, what about your car?
08:50I mean, I want you to think about this Ford, uh, about two years ago, introduced this, uh, payment system.
08:58We got a patent for this payment system.
08:59If you got behind on your payments on your car, the car would automatically repossess itself.
09:06You see where I'm going with this?
09:08So you could make your payments even after the car got repossessed and it's never your car again.
09:15But you still have to make the payments on it.
09:18So it's the same principle here is we're going into very scary territory and we need to be ready for
09:26this territory.
09:27And we need to be vigilant in this territory.
09:29And we need to be prepared for this next generation, not only prepared for it, but we need to innovate
09:35to make sure that it doesn't die the way that they're trying to kill it right now.
09:40That's my rant for the day.
09:41I am the elusive rabbit beaver.
