00:00That's right, we do a little Stock Talk every hump day right here on The Drive.
00:04Sterner Hughley, yours truly, producer Tyler Milner with you on a Wednesday in Houston.
00:09And today's edition is NBA Playoffs, an NBA Playoffs edition of Stock Up, Stock Down.
00:15Let's get this thing started right away with you, Ron, the show Hughley.
00:20Stock down for you in these NBA Playoffs, Ron.
00:23Stock down for me, the OKC Thunder.
00:28I know that is strange.
00:29I want to hear this reasoning.
00:32They've won every one of their games.
00:33And before the closeout game against the Lakers, all of them by nine points or more.
00:43I think what we're witnessing here, and I'm always a believer that dynasties are good for sports and for sports
00:51leagues.
00:51When you have a team that is really, really good, that either becomes great and is great and then becomes
01:00villainous, but still people enjoy to watch because usually they have stars.
01:04They have all kinds of things that intrigue you.
01:08I think OKC is one of those few dynasties potentially that are bad for the sport because they're going to
01:18be very Spurs like and not just Spurs like, but then they have that villain like official thing that the
01:27Chiefs had, but except they really don't have a lot of interesting stars.
01:33Like, Shea is really, really good, but he's not one of the stars of the league.
01:40He's a great player, but he's not a star.
01:43And then they don't have really anything else behind that.
01:46And they just aren't that interesting.
01:50And then it feels like they're cutting corners from a lot of people with how they play the game with
01:55their flopping and with their the way they are able to to attract attention and things like that.
02:03And it's you can feel it brewing every time they play out.
02:06But I've heard several people go on TV, Jay Williams, to many others.
02:12I think they're a great team.
02:14I just don't enjoy watching them play or how they go about it.
02:18Not a lot of sizzle there.
02:19There's not.
02:20There's not a lot of sizzle.
02:21Like, you start looking at the recent dynasties that we've seen across sports, like the Dodgers.
02:26They're in L.A.
02:28They've got one of the most unique players we've ever seen.
02:32And then they have star power behind that and history.
02:38And they're great.
02:39And there's controversy that makes them hate it, too.
02:42But they're still stars.
02:43You look at Golden State before them.
02:45Big-time stars.
02:47There's controversy that made people dislike them because of how they put themselves together.
02:51The Chiefs, obviously, stars all through Taylor Swift.
02:55All of that.
02:57And then their villains.
02:58It's just like, this is like, there's been a few.
03:02This is like, eh.
03:05And it's not like, there's not really any enjoyment to watch, really, at times with them.
03:11There's not even, again, I can just speak for the casual NBA fan.
03:15Man, there's not even a, like, I have zero interest in watching them.
03:22Yeah.
03:22And, you know, I.
03:23SGA is clearly as productive as anybody, or more productive than anybody in the damn league.
03:28But when I, like, there's no, there's no wow.
03:31There's no, and I'm not disrespecting.
03:33I'm just, I'm just, just keeping it real.
03:35Like, I just, I have, I turn it on and I watch for a little while.
03:38They feel crafty.
03:40Yeah.
03:41Like, they're crafty.
03:42Not like, like, you think of other basketball dynasties.
03:46Damn, man.
03:46I know, I can't stand Golden State and how they put this together, but look at these ass.
03:51Yeah, Steph Curry.
03:52Like, look at this, Steph, Clay.
03:55Like, look at these guys.
03:57I don't, like, it's just like, hey, he got to the line 27 times.
04:04It's easy to pull for the bald mamba.
04:06And they got, and they got 13 dudes that they can run out there and play.
04:10Yeah, no doubt.
04:11It's an NBA playoffs edition of Stock Up, Stock Down right here live on the drive.
04:15That was Ron Stock Down.
04:17Over to you, Clint.
04:18Stock Down in your eyes with these NBA playoffs.
04:21Well, look, I'm just going to keep it right here at home, boys.
04:23I feel like if we're going to be honest with ourselves as Rockets fans, it's hard to stock
04:29down or talk down to anybody in the NBA that's a playoff caliber team without mentioning the
04:34Rockets.
04:35I just, when you look at what they did last year, you know, you lose in seven to Golden
04:40State.
04:40Golden State goes on and loses in five.
04:42They lose four to one to Minnesota.
04:44Then you turn around and you look at what you did this year.
04:47We suck.
04:48Yes.
04:49You struggle with, obviously, LA.
04:52They end up sending you home in six, I believe it was, and then they turn around and get swept.
04:57And so, yeah, I just, I think, you know, the expectations when you make that move to go
05:04get that superstar after showing up in the playoffs is to take that next step.
05:08And you didn't do that.
05:10And in the process, literally in the playoffs, some of the commentary from former players,
05:15literally for a week, some of the commentary from former players and from a well-respected
05:20analyst was as disrespectful as you could possibly be about the squad.
05:27And by the way, justified.
05:29So, I got to go stock down right now.
05:32Playoff NBA basketball, Rockets, they hold that title, bud.
05:35You left last year thinking, boy, this is a team that's going, ascending.
05:40You look at this team, you feel like, some people feel like, you got to tear this thing
05:43down.
05:44It's not good.
05:45Wouldn't be mad if you did.
05:46You are tuned in to Stock Up, Stock Down, right here live on The Drive.
05:50Sterner, Hughley, myself, we do it every Wednesday.
05:53Today is an NBA playoffs edition.
05:54We got those stock downs out of the way.
05:56Back to you, Ron.
05:57Stock up for the NBA playoffs.
05:59I apologize to you, Tyler, before I go here.
06:02There are a lot of places to go.
06:05But I'm going to go with James Harden.
06:07Yeah.
06:07Stock up.
06:08He's okay with that.
06:09This might be the worst stock up in history.
06:11Oh, stock up.
06:12James Harden, he got crushed for being James Harden the first couple games in this series.
06:21That line that kept rolling around, he's got more turnovers than he does field goals.
06:27Well, the last two games in game three, got to have it down 2-0.
06:32It was him who made, I think, three or four straight baskets down the stretch, including a three to when
06:41they were up one that was basically a dagger under a minute left.
06:45But before that, he got the ball and made two big-time shots, three shots down the stretch.
06:51And then in the last game, yes, Donovan Mitchell went crazy for 45.
06:55But he also was there to 24 points, 11 assists in that game, and he had two turnovers, which was
07:03a big thing.
07:03So, James Harden, who was fairly crushed for his career and how he shows up or doesn't show up in
07:12big games, the last two games to get them back in the series, James Harden has showed up to play.
07:17Yeah, I doubt he'll actually finish it out.
07:20We'll see.
07:20He probably won't, but his stock is up right now.
07:22Turn alert for Ron's stock up with James Harden right there.
07:26NBA playoffs stock up for you, Clint.
07:30Well, anything with San Antonio on it for me.
07:34I mean, as I said, I have zero interest in watching Oklahoma City.
07:38No disrespect, just real talk.
07:41I can't click through the guide and see a San Antonio game and not at least peek it.
07:48I got to.
07:50Whether it's to see what the fans are doing, which, by the way, the David Robinson Spurs logo with just
07:57the, I don't know if they do black.
07:58A little bit of the pink and the color stuff.
07:59No, no.
08:00I'm saying that back when they did the Aztec-looking floor and all that kind of stuff, I don't know
08:05if that's the right way to put it, but you get my point.
08:07When they did the different colors, that was showstop.
08:10That was whatever you're doing, come check this out.
08:16I don't necessarily sit back when I see just the black floor with the original logo on it, but even
08:24in those instances, you look up and Wimby is quickly becoming the best player in the league.
08:30And I think because Wimby is so, what do you call him, Tyler?
08:35What do y'all call him, the alien?
08:37Away from this planet.
08:39Well, he's so different, and rightfully so.
08:42He's so different, and he's viewed as one of, if not the best in the league right now.
08:47But it takes away from how good his squad is.
08:49Them cats can go.
08:51I mean, them cats around him can flat-ass go.
08:54And so, like, I just think anything with San Antonio right now, whether you're talking Wimby specific or the city,
09:01the fan base, the vibe, the supporting cast.
09:03They created the most controversy with that elbow.
09:05Come on, yeah, I forgot about that.
09:06How about that?
09:07He got away with that, I have no idea.
