00:54to any like league like i like certain players and stuff like that but world cup time i feel like
00:59that's the only time that i'm like oh my god like i'm locked in um i was in new york

01:04the amount of times i just you know walked into a random bar sat down and watched soccer for like
01:08three four hours incredible did a lot with friends did it alone it was a fun time just being there
01:14watching a lot of different soccer games i i too like i'm i'm with you tj got challenged the other
01:20day and he was like that's it i'm gonna watch soccer now i'm gonna be and i'm like no you're
01:24not no you're not thank you the the problem is the time the time commitment like i don't have time

01:30cram anything else in i barely have time to to consume the nba anymore now with college basketball
01:36taking in i want to start there is grady dick got traded yesterday um you're an nba guy how big
01:43an
01:44opportunity and how good or bad if you think it is a move is this for grady dick to go

01:51well i think it's an opportunity to kind of reinvent himself right this past year in toronto he had a
01:55rough year he shot the ball really rough i think this is the thing with grady is the things that

02:00were was supposed to be really good at in the nba have not really trans like that shooting is never
02:06really translated if you look at his percentages it hasn't been great he's been better at certain
02:11things like rebounding or getting the rim than expected but like i talked to um one of my best
02:17friends is a toronto fan i'm saying he's what do you think of grady he's like well i mean he
02:21seems
02:21like a good dude but he just wasn't good this past year for us and he got taken out of
02:25the rotation so
02:26hopefully in la he has a chance to kind of reinvent himself and um you know i'm always rooting for

02:32i had a good relationship with him and his family still do um and i'm wishing him the best hopefully

02:37can figure it out i mean the nba is a difficult business and i think it's an opportunity for him

02:41show that he belongs uh except it'll be in a different uniform now
02:45and i'm sure he'll like uh being southern cal instead of uh canada oh yeah absolutely
02:54oh that hundred percent toronto's not bad though honestly i love that yeah i'm gonna toronto actually
02:59this weekend but um before the july which is not great but uh i i knew you're gonna look at

03:12three four day trip one of my best friends from high school lives up there i mean you know for

03:17uh you know have a good time regardless you know root on usa soccer if they're still around
03:24at that point are you allowed to celebrate our 250th birthday uh in another country i mean i suppose
03:32you are at first i'm like sure you can't do that but now i kind of now i'm like or

03:40sneakily the most awesome thing because now you get to go and be obnoxious in somebody else's turf
03:48so 100 okay 100 and look i i mean i i'm not that i i think this is politically but

03:55they said canada's the 51st state right so i'm just getting started early um i'm kidding but i have
04:01a t-shirt that says canada's america's 51st state happy birthday america something like i'm not i'm not
04:07first of all guys not to be they're not gonna fight you in canada yeah not not to get super
04:13political here but uh i to me we're 250 years there's not a lot to celebrate this past year
04:20after the way things have been going in the america i'm celebrating the u.s soccer team that's what we're
04:24celebrating that's that's where my celebrations kind of uh you know stop in my mind young man
04:30trey slata we won't we won't give you a hard time uh i think the other thing for anybody lawrence
04:37based you know i've i've been seeing all the headlines just about uh the welcome map for
04:42algeria and just that relationship between those fans and the city and the state and it just really
04:50feels like what what a special exchange of nationalities and ideas and fellowship that uh
05:00no it's beautiful i i've been rooting for algeria i hope they they play well i think play thursday
05:06right so i'm hoping uh they get the win there i think they've been the second team i've been
05:11rooting for in this world cup uh and you know like they like the this love affair between lawrence and
05:18algeria is really cool the algerian soccer team and algeria as a whole um i'm a little tired of
05:23national media and local media some of them saying lawrence small town guys there's a hundred thousand
05:28people here it was a small town i'd be a lot unhappy to be honest with you like look everything
05:37i thought what kansas was lawrence is not okay so i i got very lucky that i ended up in
05:44lawrence as a
05:45a you know no disrespect to the rest of kansas um as a town to live in um and kansas
05:51city of course
05:51is great as well but uh yeah i it's not a small town uh i would love the national media
05:57who lives in
05:57washington dc and new york stop calling it a small town because 100 000 people is not small

06:19celebration uh i i'm sure it'd be lovely i went to employer for a wedding the other day and i

06:25you know this is a great one-time visit i don't think i don't spend a lot of time in

06:30even though they were we played them a lot when i was in college no i didn't play well the

06:36county bear them a lot uh they were they were rivals uh regionally um all right let's talk a
06:41little bit about again i know we asked you this last week so the parts are coming in i think

06:47basketball the the momentum's building a little bit we're starting to see them creep up some of these
06:53early top 25 things i still feel like and it's hard because the last three seasons have not
07:01gone particularly well but we knew what expectations to have going into them it feels strange to have such
07:09open-ended expectations for kansas basketball but that's that to me like i've got no idea what to
07:15expect with them yeah that's uh that's a fantastic point i mean to me you know i think
07:23so much of it like we talked about is dependent on how the freshman and leroy blighton look right
07:27um i've heard that soaks has looked as advertised he's looked really good um he even helped out in
07:35a recruiting visit to kbu football a few weeks ago he like went to a dinner to help you know
07:39try to
07:39convince recruit to come not a few weeks ago i think it was like a month month and a half

07:42um come to kansas or something like that uh which was pretty cool um and you know like i've heard
07:49paul and bia has looked really good he looks significantly slimmer um i was actually just
07:54talking to his manager today he said coach curtis townsend was saying he looked really good and he
07:58looks like very good like i i don't know if you guys have seen you guys have seen clips of
08:02paul but
08:02he looks like he's lost a ton of weight i i i was i think i've probably been from the
08:07beginning more
08:08excited about him coming back i he flashed to me at the end of the season and i think too
08:15many people put
08:17his maybe his preseason expectations and they couldn't let go of those and ignoring what we
08:23saw with our eyes but what we saw with our eyes to me late in the season was a player
08:28that was making
08:28an impact no i i completely agree and if you go back and watch like this tape of him in
08:35the french
08:35league he looks like a completely different player obviously like it's hard to translate but like
08:39he was like running the offense he was doing stuff like you know face-ups pull-up shots like
08:45he was doing some crazy stuff man like stuff that i didn't even think he could do he was moving
08:50smoothly obviously the college game is very different but like still i think we could see a
08:55little more of an offensive game from paul this year especially if he's the starter um and and i think
09:01he's gonna be the x factor him and a few other guys him cole rosario like how good are these
09:06two
09:06returnees if they're better than expected or much better than last year well the ceiling of this team
09:11is significantly higher and you know like i i think when we go into the season there kansas
09:16is probably gonna be a top 25 team it's a bill self-led team somewhere right like even if they're
09:2122 it's still top 25 um i think when it's all said and done they're probably a top 10 top
09:2515 team
09:28trius we're not that far away from uh nfl training camp and getting ready for uh college football to get
09:35going and all those sort of things it'll be here before we know it will like wake up tomorrow
09:38on this football season uh looking at the jayhawks this off season a very interesting one i think
09:44you know the jaylon daniels era era is is done so how's it looking on the starting quarterback
09:51front for the jayhawks yeah um right now i think cole ballard has the slight edge in the quarterback
09:57competition i don't think he's maybe big enough like you know of a gap between the two others uh
10:02chase jenkins and isaiah marshall to where it's like a closed door on who's starting um i think
10:09it's gonna be a battle that we probably know don't know the exact answer to until probably mid-august
10:14i'd heard cole knows the playbook really well he has the best arm of the three um isaiah has the
10:19highest ceiling in the three because of his legs but he isn't as consistent in in game in game out
10:24and chase jenkins looked pretty good at the end there he's getting more first team reps i think
10:28he was the best of the three uh when they had the showing in front of the fans um so
10:33look guys i i've
10:35heard the team looks better than expected the quarterback room is something that i haven't heard
10:40anything particularly super great with and i don't know if you guys saw the cfb 27 ratings uh kansas is
10:45like the lowest rated quarterback room in all big 12 um in fact there's four teams that have two
10:51quarterbacks better than kansas has one quarterback so okay if that's the case though and they and and
10:58people have told you they look what can they be if they're weak at quarterback well i think because
11:05andy kodal nikki is who andy kodal nikki is that the quarterbacks will look better than they actually
11:11are you know i think he's going to make their jobs and lives a lot easier i think they're going
11:15to be
11:15relying on the run game that has a guy like dylan edwards and yacin willis and korea matri like he's
11:20going to be you know kind of thrown there some snaps um the tight ends are going to be used
11:26a lot more
11:26so i think that'll be easier for the quarterbacks you know be a lot more dinking and dunking with
11:31tight ends five to ten yards upfield um i i think the floor of this team is four wins and
11:39the ceiling
11:39of this team is probably seven maybe more i mean i just for me it's hard to kind of reconcile

11:44the fact that like i expect there to be like growing pains with whoever is the serving quarterback
11:51and like jalen for as bad he was at the last like maybe one third of the season two thirds
11:57of the
11:57season he was on fire and they still only won five games you know like they he had 18 touchdowns
12:03and
12:03two interceptions to start the season and then he kind of fell apart after that texas tech game so
12:08um i i i feel like this is a rebuilding year for kansas football like maybe i'm wrong maybe they
12:14make a
12:14bowl game and that's all is well and maybe they're a 6-6 team or it's like crap but
12:19um i think so much of it's depending on like what andy kolnick can do with these qbs
12:25um and if the running game can carry them uh as i think they can carry them at some points
12:31at different parts of the season i it is yeah if if ku basketball is an unknown i don't even
12:38know how
12:39to try it's dylan edwards who else do i know on that team that's kind of where it's kind of
12:46where
12:46i'm at with it uh but you know that leaves a lot of room for to be surprised and and
12:51to be fair
12:52lance leipold that's what he kind of did when he first got there so you never know um and he's
12:57pretty
12:57good at what he does but we'll we'll see how it goes tres will follow along at the kc star

13:11went because i'm really curious about that i especially this it'll be awesome because i in
13:18my time in canada it was a blast yeah and they loved you know being you know that we were

13:25for covering the royals but it was it was fun i think i think it'll be fun and i think

13:52like it's going to be non-stop fireworks it's going to be great to see some other other countries get

13:58participate why are they blowing their hands off why does everybody go to the hospital like
