00:00I know we started the show yesterday talking LeBron and we weren't really sure like what was
00:04going to percolate today and it all kind of it's that time of year right whenever LeBron is going
00:10through one of these decisions it's always LeBron watch is just something it's a thing it's a thing
00:15of beauty it's the gift that keeps on giving it just always comes back to LeBron somehow yeah he
00:19might be one of one when it comes to just making people have not only have interest in what he
00:23does
00:23but also then dragging out a story oh he is the master at controlling the narrative like this
00:29whole thing with the Lakers that he that they announced today that could have been the opposite
00:33it could have been the Lakers being like yeah you know LeBron we're moving on with you but he got
00:37out in front of it and was like no no no no I'm gonna say we're breaking up okay yeah
00:42that was
00:43some posturing there and I so here's what I think happened in that regard okay I think Rob Polinka
00:47was like I'm just gonna and the term I've heard thrown around there is it's been popular over the
00:51previous like hour and a half is uh eat a dirt sandwich all right so Polinka was like I'll eat
00:57this dirt sandwich I'll just I'll take the fall on this one right now I'll I'll have bad publicity
01:02for the next 48 hours LeBron and his team with Rich Paul they can think that they won this and
01:07uh
01:07yeah no you turned us down okay fine meanwhile he gets out of it in a move that I don't
01:13know that
01:13Jeannie Buss had the I don't know that she would have been able to pull off I I think part
01:17of the
01:18the selling of the Lakers was the idea that Jeannie I think she knew this day was coming and I
01:22don't
01:22think she knew that she had to do this what was right for the franchise the Lakers will take a
01:26step back
01:27but they're going to take a couple steps forward with LeBron uh not being there and the money not
01:31being there attached to LeBron and being able to kind of build this thing with Luka it won't look
01:35good for maybe another year or two uh but then it start it will start to look good and I
01:39think that's
01:39the underlying part of this yeah I I saw the story about how the pitch to Luka about the future
01:44all
01:44kind of revolved around getting LeBron's like 52 million dollars off the books was the kind of the big
01:49starting thing so that certainly happens now I I honestly though will say like I'm kind of stunned
01:53because this entire time my stance has been listen I'd love LeBron to come back to Cleveland
01:59obviously it'd be a great storybook ending to his career I've always thought this was possible but
02:04it just didn't feel likely I I kept all the things that have mattered to LeBron wait wait wait so
02:08that
02:09makes it sound like you think it's possible right now no I'm saying I didn't I he's seeing the news
02:14today means it's not happening but I thought you're saying him coming back to Cleveland coming back
02:17to Cleveland yeah I do I mean seeing this news today because the Lakers were like option a to me
02:22that that was the place I thought he was just going to go all the things LeBron's prioritized
02:26in his career his family the money he took one pay cut in his career and it was the first
02:31time he
02:31went to to Miami and that was because he knew he needed to win championships and then after that
02:34it was always like pay me what I'm worth I just never imagined that he would take less money somewhere
02:38but it sounds like people are saying the money isn't the thing Shams just reported a little bit ago
02:43we have that let's let's play this audio this is Shams and talking about what is what exactly matters
02:47for LeBron in this discussion I'm told this is a happiness led decision for LeBron James he feels
02:54like he needs to find his happiness elsewhere and wherever he lands in free agency it will not be
03:00driven by money according to sources and so it was a bumpy finish for him with with the Lakers at
03:06different points even though at the age of 41 he led the Lakers out of the first round pretty much
03:11by
03:11himself as that star player with Reeves and Luka Doncic out but now eight years later in LA that's
03:18the most time he's ever spent with a team he told the Lakers today that they can move on because
03:23he
03:23is moving on yeah the fact that the money wasn't the number one priority and and it sounds like
03:29to a degree at least the family might not be number one priority because I would have just thought hey
03:33he's gonna go stay as close to his family as possible he's gonna stay with his son that he gets
03:37to play
03:37with on his NBA team that he plays for why not you got it made in the shade out there
03:41in LA isn't
03:42that part of a happiness decision isn't that like yeah isn't that baked into the happiness part of
03:45this equation was losing or leaving I thought there was no way he was just it's just as sunny in
03:50California in uh in Golden State it's just as sunny in San Francisco which is why that's now where I
03:54pivoted to thinking that that's where he's gonna and that's kind of I so I that's I didn't know where
03:58you were going I really didn't it kind of sounded like you were driving the Cavs optimism train and I
04:03just I don't want to just rain on everybody's parade today there's a lot I'm texting with buddies
04:08already that are telling me like this is the this is the happiest they've been in months just the
04:11idea that he's thinking about coming here and he's thinking about making this and to me I just I
04:16think that's it's already a foregone conclusion he's gonna end up with the Warriors and if I'm wrong
04:20I'd love to be wrong on this I'd love nothing more than to be wrong about this LeBron Mobley Donovan
04:25next year with James Harden in the mix you kidding me that would be blockbuster I would love that
04:31I just don't see it right now like everything Rich Paul does and everything that LeBron's camp does
04:37they talk they're yappers they get out they know everyone in the media and they talk and everyone in
04:42the media that is actually reporting on this is giving us the suggestion that LeBron and Golden
04:48State is all but a done deal am I expecting the news today I yeah kind of Spencer I'm expecting
04:54something now LeBron loves the headlines so maybe he drags it out a little bit longer and maybe we take
04:58this into tomorrow or maybe we take this into even Thursday but yeah I'm expecting I'm expecting
05:03something around LeBron and the Warriors to be the conclusion here we know the Warriors can't make
05:08this move until they move some money around so that's kind of the big thing that's kind of still
05:12playing out right now I believe is like there's the whole Jimmy Butler contract and whatever comes
05:16with that or whatever so I think there's still some things to work out if it's gonna happen but I'm
05:20with you JP like you know what's funny though is we talked about this yesterday the idea that
05:25throughout a LeBron watch whenever these have popped up on our radar whenever this has been a
05:29thing whenever he's been a free agent this is the fourth time he'll be a free agent like every
05:33single time it's like different weeks different fan bases feel like they're in it and we talked
05:38about this yesterday like a couple weeks ago it was the Cavs before that it was all about the Lakers
05:43then now it's the Warriors this week I will say the news that he's leaving LA did sort of make
05:49it feel
05:49like all over again the Cavs now have this set this this new life breathed into them I still don't
05:54think
05:54it's gonna happen I'm with you I think it's probably gonna be golden state based on everything
05:58we've heard this week and the fact that I think LeBron just wants to finish his career playing
06:01with his buddies I don't think he cares about all the legacy stuff I don't know that he cares about
06:04the storybook ending in Cleveland as great as that would be for us I think for him it's just I
06:09just
06:09want to go somewhere of happiness is the key where I'm gonna have fun enjoy the people that I'm
06:13playing with I love Steph I love Draymond those are some of my best friends that I've built up over
06:16the
06:17years as much as it might Cavs fans might hate that it's true I think that's probably where he's gonna
06:21go
06:21but it does like breathe new life into the idea that well if the Lakers are out well maybe the
06:26Cavs
06:26are back on board so it's funny how he plays this game he just he gets it he flirts with
06:30everybody he
06:31gets us all back ball back and again yeah and so that's right and we asked you guys 216474
06:35to below 92 with LeBron leaving the Lakers is it down to the Cavs and Warriors Spencer I think
06:39there's four realistic teams involved in all this and if we're being honest with ourselves I think
06:43there's really three the fourth team is the Timberwolves and I'm just gonna boot him out of the
06:47conversation right now okay the uh the other three teams though the Miami Heat I don't think
06:52it's going to happen but I think we have to at least consider the idea that LeBron going to back
06:56to Miami is on the table and then uh obviously Golden State and and the Cavs and so like if

07:01think that the Golden State scenario because they're the Golden State geriatrics or whatever
07:05they've been dubbed if you if you think that's just not possible for any reason Warriors yeah if you
07:11just think that they just that just cannot happen in any sort of way then you're probably three
07:25thrilled today you're probably over the moon
07:30I got Vegas odds makers uh out there putting the Warriors at minus 500 in order to get this done
07:35though uh Cavs are plus 300 so like the Cavs aren't out of it but like when when Vegas puts
07:39you at minus
07:40500 Golden State is the heavy heavy favorite and it's because of the reasons we're talking about
07:44if it's a happiness thing he's going to want to be and still in California just a quick plane right
07:49away from the family in Los Angeles he's going to have all his buddies that we discussed and went
07:52over yesterday and everything he's got proof of concept with the 2024 Olympics uh and playing with
07:57all these guys with Steve Kerr and and being the coach and everything like that but playing with with
08:01uh you know with Curry and with Draymond and and and all these guys and I don't even know that
08:05they get Anthony Davis by the way I don't think this is like this non-negotiable that he thought it
08:09was but it kind of just seems like it's that's that's where this is going I don't want to lie
08:14to
08:14people today that's the problem I'm having Spencer I don't want to come out here and be a liar to
08:18people
08:18and tell you I'm going to wave the pom-poms and we have some awesome chance of getting LeBron
08:23when I just don't believe it to be true I just don't yeah I don't think that's how this is

08:28to end I'm with you on that um I you know it's it does make for this this him leaving

08:35does make for this great moment in this great day and some great content for us to be able to
08:38talk
08:38about this about the possibility that he could come back to Cleveland like it does kind of put that
08:42back on the table but I also don't think it's a coincidence JP that in the days leading up to
08:47today the days leading up to the NBA new league year beginning tomorrow it's there's been all this
08:52smoke about Golden State and there's been all this talk about Golden State is basically throwing a
08:56Hail Mary to do whatever they can to try to bring LeBron there and unite him with Steph and Draymond
09:01and all
09:01these guys that he's always wanted to play with before and that that's kind of the big thing
09:04it it like if you read the tea leaves on that it feels like these conversations have really picked
09:09up the last couple days they got LeBron's sort of thought process on it he seems like he might be
09:14interested if they can maybe make it work and then he decides you know what this is where I maybe
09:18want
09:18to finish this thing I'm going to tell the Lakers that I'm leaving like that decision just didn't come
09:22out of thin air I probably took some figuring out other places that he could go before he decided to
09:26tell the Lakers I'm not coming back so to me the tea leaves point to Golden State still and I
09:31know
09:31everyone's excited I know everyone's thinking about and if in this and if it does end up being
09:35Cleveland it'll be people honking their horns in the streets again at Cleveland celebrating that
09:39he's coming back for a second time or a third run here I get it but I would be honking
09:43in the
09:44streets I like I like when people honk in the streets I don't know the last time last time I
09:47don't I mean I people driving by the arena just honking at each other do they just hear us on
09:53the
09:53radio and then they just start honking and they just say and then they're driving by the station
09:56honking at us poor guy that listens to jazz music on his ride home is so confused he has no

10:01what's going on why is everyone honking is there do I have something is my tail light out what's
10:05going on here but no you know listen if it happens it'll be this amazing moment today especially but
10:09I just I still lean that I think it's going to be the Warriors that he ends up going to

10:14to rain on the parade I'm sorry to be that guy lockstep then I really thought you were going to

10:18in here and tell me something different I thought I was going to have to be the one uh with

10:21bedside manner today just telling everybody that hey listen calm calm it down now let me give you a
10:25couple reasons why some excitement might exist for Cavs fans okay because again Vegas doesn't
10:30believe in the Cavs being this in the slightest bit I don't believe in it happening either but
10:34you're down to essentially in my opinion two and if you throw the heat in their three teams
10:37Anthony Slater who covers the Warriors for ESPN says Warriors decision makers have been given no
10:42indication at this hour this was like 20 minutes ago that they are the firm LeBron James landing spot
10:48per sources there's a belief that they'll have plenty of appeal but appears to be some level of
10:52recruitment required we also have Chris Haynes obviously a couple hours ago saying the Cavs do
10:57have interest so if you're going to hang on to this you're going to you're going to live with the
11:00idea
11:01that you think the Cavs have a legitimate shot they have a legitimate shot uh but if you're going to
11:05hang on to that these two tweets I think would be the best thing you have going for yourself right

11:09yeah I think that's it and and I'll say this too I am somebody who notoriously sets myself up to
11:17not be disappointed basically so I've I don't think I don't think we're protecting our feelings
11:22here at least I'm not from the beginning I was always like listen I'd love LeBron to come back
11:26but I just don't think it's going to happen so that if he does come back I'm like pleasantly
11:30surprised by this but I truly in my heart of hearts believe that I'm not what I'm doing I'd love

11:40that's all I can do in this uh the the uh truth broker that I am cannot lie to you

11:50one of his best buddies already as is uh want to be coached by Steve Kerr all these people that

11:55has great admiration and respect for for sure he likes Harden but I I don't think he's invested in

12:05that vibe if it's a happiness tour then this isn't part of the happiness for LeBron James I'm
12:11sorry it just isn't it's a great story no doubt about it but I don't see LeBron coming to the
12:17Cavs with everything that's around it and saying it's some sort of happiness venture and having the
12:23time of his life I do see him hanging out with Steph in California golfing a bunch as being a
12:27time that
12:28he'd love and since we we talked about this yesterday it became more and more accepting like I I started
12:33to
12:33accept it more which is to me it's a mix of like protecting my feelings but also the reality of
12:37the situation and reading the tea leaves on this as we've said it it I agree with you like I
12:42I just
12:43feel like everything we've seen the last 24 to 48 hours has been we've all tried to wrap our heads
12:48around how could he do this how could he go to the team that was your rival all those all
12:51those finals
12:52years and and we established yesterday JP like that doesn't matter to LeBron like the what happened all
12:57those years ago like yeah that was a great rivalry but like at this point in his career he's he's
13:02developed a
13:02lot of friendships and relationships with these guys that's that's what matters to him if his
13:06happiness is the most important thing the Cavs fans trying to tarnish his legacy and tear down his
13:11legacy because he joined the Warriors seven years after they were this great dynasty uh like he
13:16doesn't care about that like that doesn't matter to him he's gonna do what he thinks is is gonna be
13:20the most enjoyable experience to probably end his career this season and if it's and honestly like
13:24playing with your best friends or the guys that you consider your your closest with makes a lot of
13:29sense to maybe do that with for anybody so I just I feel like the happiness thing has got to
13:33be one
13:33sort of tip Spencer it has to be I I just don't see I don't see happiness and this Cavs
13:38team and LeBron
13:40James being some sort of connecting line I just don't it doesn't it doesn't scream that to me what
13:44screams happiness to me is uh LeBron doing the thing he's done at every stop of his NBA career which
13:49is
13:49find buddies and people he likes and then team up with them essentially outside of the time uh you know
13:55when he came back here and won a title I mean listen finishing finishing your career in Cleveland
13:59is more of the legacy play legacy play not happiness play legacy play and it's more of like the feel
14:04good story you know ascending getting a send-off from this fan base from this area where you're
14:10from um but like the people that he has like relationships with here I think are few and far
14:16between I mean I him and Kobe Altman obviously crossed paths somewhat when I mean when he was here
14:20Brandon Weems obviously a massive one now big one and now he's you know the the whole conversation
14:24is that he's gonna be promoted to the uh the new GM role um so that's one and then you
14:29know like
14:30Dan Gilbert but we've always known that relationship's kind of been a little icy granted they they've
14:33they've been there to they've they've mended fences when needed to obviously chase the championship and
14:41even when he left it was like the second time it was like well I don't know that they're like
14:45best
14:45buddies or anything so I I don't I don't see the the means here on this Cavs team currently
14:50for LeBron to just have this like happiness tour in his final year I I think you're right in
14:56in identifying and he's always talked about this too like there was a point in time where he always
15:00talked about I want to play with Chris Paul I want to play with Carmelo and obviously those guys are
15:04all gone that he knows this is his last hurrah I mean the banana boat was a thing for a

15:38Cavs Warriors and Heat are the kind of the teams that are in play I got that notification on my
15:42phone and I
15:42said oh I guess we're gonna have the news about the Warriors today I swear so you're like super
15:46Debbie Downer today it's not it's I'm not even trying to be I'm just trying to be as honest as
15:50I possibly can with everybody because this is just how I this is how I viewed this when I called
15:54the
15:55race yesterday I didn't do it because it's a turnaround today and be like no no I take it all
15:59back like I did it yesterday because I believed it yesterday the same way I believe it today it makes
16:03too much sense to me that this is what he'd be lining up and I've connected too many dots for
16:08myself
16:08like the the only guiding principle is that you have to go back to the long-standing thought
16:13that LeBron can't turn down a great narrative that's the only thing I'm hanging my hat on is
16:19that he he can't resist a great storyline so much so that he would then uh decide the Cavs and
16:26potentially just have this I mean I get a final goodbye season in a place where he started and and
16:31makes the most sense because of the story the story might be too good for him but I told you
16:36there's
16:36there's like little breadcrumbs that I'm going to hang on to all day long to try to convince me
16:40that the Cavs are more in play and by the time this will not be by the time John Fanta
16:44joins us
16:44at 420 where I'm like the Cavs are getting LeBron baby it's not going to happen guys it's not going
16:49to happen but uh Dave McMenamin on ESPN about 45 minutes ago said he's going to find a spot that
16:56in essence will feel like the proper final chapter now that would lead you more to believe the Cavs
17:02than anything because the Warriors are not a proper final chapter that's not how proper there's
17:08nothing proper there's nothing proper Miami's fine Miami fits in the same way that the kid the Cavs do
17:13no one can blame you it's a place you've already been one titles with our legacy at like no one
17:19can
17:19fault you for that the Warriors aren't my definition of a proper final chapter no I don't think they're
17:26anybody's I called it extremely lame yesterday and I stand by that like it is it is from a narrative
17:31standpoint it is the lamest possible place he could go to sort of end his career just teaming
17:35up with the team that was kind of at the the antithesis of him when he was at the peak
17:39of his
17:39powers here in Cleveland that stinks like that that narrative is not a great narrative it's it that's
17:44more so like you said the the hey doing it with my buddies thing but um and maybe that McMenamin
17:49post
17:49is the one that that gives Cavs fans some hope I would say this like going back to what we
17:54kind of
17:54about yesterday a little bit like the reason why that Lakers tweet at least the where we differ is
18:01that I saw that Lakers tweet and I did think to myself like okay so maybe Cleveland does actually
18:05have a chance you got doors cracked open a little bit I thought it cracked open a little bit and
18:08I
18:08think part of that is just like the lure of these LeBron these LeBron uh decisions right like every time
18:14there's like a new breadcrumb or every time there's like a new decision made or something becomes
18:18finite like I'm turning down the Lakers it it naturally we we want there to be this little
18:24this little inkling of hope and so because I thought the Lakers were playing a that did sort
18:29of open that door a crack for me a little bit to say okay maybe the Cavs are in play
18:33but I still
18:34stand by what we talked about earlier like it just feels like the timing of this coming in the days
18:40after all we've heard about is how the Warriors are trying to make this great play for LeBron
18:44it does feel like that's probably more so the direction it's going to go I'd probably put it
18:49at like 75 25 that it's Warriors over Cavs but that 25 is a lot higher than it was yesterday
18:54when I
18:55thought the Cavs are completely out of it because I thought the Lakers were still a higher up percentage
18:58at that point I'll say this at least there aren't a lot of Cavs fans right now that are saying

19:02thanks you know like sometimes we do the LeBron discussion and you just get enough people
19:08to be like no not interested don't want the headache how that works right yeah now that it feels like
19:13there's a there's a chance that one's on board just go out and get him go out and do whatever
19:16you have to do to go out there's no sign there's no trading Jared Allen necessarily to get him which
19:20was always a stupid idea and the Lakers are 100% out of the equation like it's not you don't
19:25have
19:25this big roadblock you're you basically have to convince him that he doesn't want to damage his
19:29legacy by going to Golden State and he'll probably look back and be like well it's not going to damage
19:33my legacy I'll be fine but if I'm Dan Gilbert and I'm Kobe Altman if he'll even take the phone

19:38that's the pitch that's what you got to tell him you got to tell him like everything you've done in
19:42your life has been building towards this moment finish the final chapter finish the storyline
19:45if you go to Golden State people are going to look at you in a way that you don't want
19:49them to look
19:49at you it's going to tarnish you and your end chapter that you just wanted to go do a thing
19:55with buddies and didn't care about winning at all you're supposed to be you're supposed to be
19:58someone that wants to win uh even though in the past eight years with the Lakers he won one COVID
20:02title and outside of that one three playoff series does three playoff series in eight years
20:08outside of the COVID title that's it okay all right does bringing the bra back to Cleveland
20:11also have to come with Jalen Tyson apologizing for saying that it's Donovan Mitchell City when
20:15they uh before he signs on the dotted line does that have to happen I'll drive Tyson over there
20:19myself if he wants to do the apology I'll go to CVS by every every I'm sorry card they sell
20:25on the
20:25shelves take him to Jalen Tyson's house I'll buy out edible arrangements whole stock for the week
20:30okay and just just apology roses apology well you know the strawberries the pineapples you know
20:36all right fine Tyson's got the money for that you're just going to give him the ride you'll pay for

21:03trail go out there make your pitches uh and make sure that LeBron and his people know just how
21:07serious you are about him coming here honestly you bringing up Donovan is interesting because
21:11I do truly wonder what's going through Donovan's head if he's if he's taught if he's got he's got
21:18a lot he's got a lot LeBron again because it's going to overshadow him I know where you're going
21:22it's going to overshadow him I get that understand that you can't win a title unless you have somebody
21:26else I don't think you need other people and to be honest you can't do it on your own I

21:30Donovan cares that LeBron will come back and overshadow him necessarily I think there are many
21:35superstars that would but I find it fascinating because we know what he said last when they were
21:40eliminated after game four he knew he the whole thing was they were keeping Donovan out there for
21:45longer than usually he talked for like 30 minutes because they weren't going to make him available the
21:49next day when they did locker clean out and Donovan answered all kinds of questions about the future
21:54and whatever and he was asked point blank period I believe it was Joe Varden who asked him about
21:57do you want LeBron back like would you want that and he played it very politically he was very much
22:03like I'm not saying anything because if I say one thing it's going to be misconstrued and everyone's
22:07going to say I hate LeBron and if I say one the other thing everyone's going to say oh he
22:12you know
22:12he's going to he's he's LeBron's coming back and they're just going to run with it so he just played
22:16it right down the middle so we don't really know Donovan Mitchell's true thoughts on a potential
22:20team up with LeBron James and I'd be fascinated to know what's going through his head right now
22:24don't care uh you don't get a say in that if LeBron wants to come to your team you're going

22:28have to make it work I the moment you stopped being somebody I thought could win a title on
22:33your own Donovan Mitchell your thoughts in this discussion I don't care about I'm sorry I don't

22:55think he understands though like I think Donovan absolutely would understand teaming up with LeBron
23:00and if that ends with the championship that yes means LeBron overshadows you still but at the same
23:07time that will only boost his stock in the eyes of Cleveland fans because LeBron's not going to be here
23:11for very long if he if they want a title this year that'd be like this perfect story beginning that's
