00:00The Headwaters are the so-called water towers of the Alps.
00:05The Headwaters represent the main fresh water resource we have.
00:09And at the same time, we know that the warming here in the Alps
00:13is twice as fast as the global average.
00:17We have a glacier retreat, we have a changing snow cover,
00:22more extreme events, more frequent, more severe.
00:28The water challenges are quite similar throughout the Alpine regions.
00:34If we compare all these different catchments,
00:37we can maybe identify some common patterns
00:41and develop some sustainable solutions
00:46that can then be transferred to other regions in the Alps.
00:52The more data we have from all these different disciplines,
00:56so I'm talking about climate data, about hydrological data,
01:00data about water quality, geochemical data, biodiversity data,
01:05socio-economic data, that helps us to understand the complex interactions,
01:10how these systems really work.
01:13And in the end, we hope to help the decision makers
01:16to develop these sustainable solutions.
01:19How much water is available for tourism, for agriculture, for hydropower,
01:25but also for the unique ecosystems we have here.

01:28.
