00:00The sheriff leading the search for Nancy Guthrie is downplaying a new ransom message that claims
00:04to hold the key to solving the case. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says a letter sent to TMZ
00:09claiming to have video of the missing 84-year-old is likely just another fake. For what it's worth,
00:14Sheriff Nanos has been harangued for his mismanagement of the Guthrie case. The latest
00:19ransom note allegedly claims two people were responsible for Guthrie's kidnapping and says
00:23a cell phone video containing the main kidnapper is hidden in a secure location. Sheriff Nanos
00:30told a local radio station he believes the note is similar to other false ransom messages that the
00:35FBI has dealt with in the past. Quote, I think the FBI has done a number of arrests for fake
00:40or false
00:40ransom notes. I think we're looking at another one of those today. The sheriff did acknowledge that
00:44two earlier ransom notes may have some legitimacy, but said the feds are handling that part of the
00:49investigation. Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home near Tucson in early February. More than five
00:54months later, the case remains unsolved.
