Lions made the move after the former first round pick was released on bond Monday morning.
Transcript
00:00Yeah. Okay. Paul Sarah segments got to wait. So this is, this is part of, I want to, I want
00:07to be careful because obviously my mind's in other places and I don't want to say something that's a two
00:13off brand here. This is what my annoyances with society. So this morning, Terry on Arnold, you know, one, his
00:23hearing that he did not have to stay in jail and he's out on bond a million dollars.
00:28Right. They're not going to do an ankle monitor because he's a NFL player, like the paparazzi. I thought it
00:34was a brilliant line by the judge was, but that has no bearing on the case. And you, I was
00:39talking with Evan and you have fans like victory lapping it. Like he could show up to camp and I'm
00:44like, do these people just not have any understanding of how planet earth works? No, no, no, no. It's very
00:50tribalism. It's us versus the world.
00:52Well, cut scene. The lions have released Terry and Arnold. So I guess it's going to be tough for him
00:58to show up to camp. He's not employed by the team. I just want to remind you of something.
01:03The feds convict at like a 98% rate. They don't diddle around. They don't throw hail Marys. They don't
01:14throw YOLO balls. This isn't judge Judy where Bob is suing Janice for a shingle and a shoe. They, they
01:22develop a case and they bring these charges.
01:26He is facing up to life in prison. So I just, I never understood the connection that was being made
01:34today, but now he's been released because Mike, every time something happens to everybody's favorite athlete, it's free fill in
01:42the blank. Oh, he's getting railroaded.
01:45No, these are some serious charges. This, this isn't, he got pulled over for speeding. This isn't something ridiculous. This
01:53is something where it get life is like a life sentence is being attached to it.
01:58Potentially this is kidnapping and all types of things. And yeah, I mean, I do like the line that the
02:06judge says, like, I don't have to give you a monitor. They're going to let me know if you're late
02:09for practice, it'll be all over ESPN.
02:12Again, the lions are finally getting ahead of this. I think they regret saying what they stand at least Dan
02:20Campbell regrets. Ah, you know, we talked to Terry and you know, so long as he's up front with us,
02:26you know, he's our guy type of thing. And now, yeah, you're going to have to release him because there's,
02:32there's no way he can show up to practice and not have everybody ask him about this as the coaching
02:38staff about this.
02:40This is the lions doing something smart. He could not be on this team. There's no way. No. And again,
02:46before you get mad or yell or while innocent until proven guilt, listen, you're right. In a court of law,
02:53the Detroit lions are not a court of law.
02:56The Detroit lions are not going to have a player facing life in prison, practicing every player. As Rico just
03:05said, we'll have to answer excruciatingly ridiculous questions. It's just, it was never going to happen. Plus let's be very
03:13clear.
03:14They already look kind of silly based on what Dan Campbell said a few months ago. We played the audio
03:20last week. Would you really double down on that?
03:23You can't double down on that. That's why this was, I was wondering, I thought the lions would simply tell
03:30him, don't show up to camp, handle your business, praying to God that the NFL will put him on the
03:37exemption list.
03:37So they wouldn't even have to do this move. And they could just say, Hey, Terry, we believe in you,
03:42but you know, the mean old guys at the NFL said, you can't show up here as the lions being
03:47responsible.
03:48So you can't be here. Sorry.
03:50I think it's a right move for the organization, especially to, and I know this, this isn't as important to
03:55fans, some fans, but if an organization is going to preach about having high character guys,
04:00it's a phrase you always hear out of rotunda drive, a bottom line, you couldn't possibly have this guy here,
04:09period. Not to mention the fact there is a next to a next to 0% shot that his football
04:17career is not at a minimum deeply impacted.
04:20That's before we get to the NFL's procedures and being on the exempt list and the whole bit. Yeah. Okay.
04:26It's pretty clear. The feds are not going to bring this cavalry of charges and be wrong on all of
04:33them.
04:33That's just data. So I actually think the lions did the right thing. And look, you're not rooting against a
04:4123 year old. Maybe he can beat the rap on a reduced level. Maybe someday he can play ball again.
04:47He ain't lining up for you this year. And I'm not going to turn the most important lions training camp
04:52in the last few years.
04:53I'm not turning that into a circus because here's the other news. Now, if you think here, if I'm overstepping,
04:59say it Rico beard, I thought you were going to hearken.
05:02No, I don't need to hearken. Okay. I just, I want you to tell me, Michael, you're out of order.
05:09Rico, please be out of order. Please be out. Okay. I might be. They don't make the playoffs this year.
05:15You're talking regime change.
05:19Didn't say you're doing it. You're talking. Okay. Okay. You're thinking. Okay. I was about to say, yeah, I can't
05:24see the lions allowed to go three years without winning a playoff game and two years straight without missing with
05:29missing the play.
05:30Cause there's only so many times you could say, you know, we were 30 minutes away from the super bowl.
05:34Correct. That was a while ago, sir. Correct. And again, for Brad Holmes, it's the same thing.
05:38See, I think for Brad, the seat would be even hotter because of you would now look at that. Was
05:43it the 2024 draft and completely useless. You might as well just lit that thing on fire on stage right
05:51here in Detroit in front of that record 750,000 people.
05:55You, you would have, you would have got more entertainment out of watching all your draft.
05:59It comes down. It comes down to rake straw now. Um, but I, I, again, we can just transition right
06:04into this. That's fine. I didn't plan on talking Terry and Arnold unless this happened.
06:10I think it's the right move for the franchise. I think the Detroit lions have come so far. They're not
06:15a punchline. They're not desperate. Have a standard. And they're, this is the standard. Like we're not going to turn
06:23this into a circus and we're not going to stand here blindly with a guy that is likely going to
06:29spend a good number of years in prison. They do not owe that to the player.
06:33No, the court of law owes the player a fair trial. The Detroit lions do not owe the player their
06:39undying support.
06:40And I think it's the severity of the penalty is why you, you got to separate. Like there are things
06:46that, okay, our players screwed up and you know what it happens. And he's going to be suspended for a
06:54little bit. You stay at home. You stay away from the locker room, handle this, figure this out, come up
06:59with some type of a, a, a deal with the attorney.
07:03This is one. When you start reading it and you're saying to yourself, if this is even have one ounce
07:10of being true, dear God, who did we draft?
07:16How is this their off season? How is this their off season? When this could happen, we could just cut
07:21him on a whim because things go bad in the trial.
07:23Like, well, and you have no corners, Keith Adney, the fifth round picks, your guy, you're going to turn to
07:27rake straw guy.
07:28Who hasn't played in two years. Paul, do you, do you actually you first me second Paul, they had to,
07:35you can't bring him in the camp.
07:38No, no. He's asking them. What were you doing? Oh, oh, oh, oh. Yeah. Why? Like if, if you could
07:44just cut him on a whim, because this thing could go south on you.
07:46Why weren't you like prepared for this in any way? No, because I'm assuming that Brad was in the bathroom
07:52at the Coney Island and he didn't see what was happening this year.
07:55Well, then, then honestly, that's why if this year goes poorly, we should be talking about job security for both
08:00the coach and the GM.
08:01Look, you, you replaced Amik Robertson with Roger McCreary. Fine. Push. You had no backup plan.
08:10This is where they either were being willfully ignorant or they got completely snookered by the player.
08:17Dan Campbell's audio and Paul, you're doing us a solid because with everything going on and David not being here
08:24after the 2 p.m.
08:25There's a piece of Dan Campbell audio from March 30th that to me, it just ages worse and worse and
08:33worse.
08:34Essentially, oh, I think we're good. There's nothing to this. He wasn't involved. I believe the kid.
08:40And I'm going the day these things got reported in February, if two doorknobs like me and Rico could tell
08:47you guys.
08:48And by the way, a couple of phone calls, anyone I talked to in law enforcement, anyone I talked to
08:55who covers the league, not a single person shared Dan Campbell's opinion that he would be okay.
09:01The answers I was given from the beginning, he's in serious trouble. He's going away for a long time.
09:10So how could the Lions not have that? That is where Paul has a point. And we had a Rico.
09:16They didn't address it.
09:18They didn't know what else they didn't do. They didn't address the safety position considering Kirby Joseph may never play
09:23again.
09:24And Brian Branch blew his Achilles, you know, but, but, but they did have enough to let to joke and
09:31let you know, hey, we got to rush in.
09:33We got to edge rusher. So I'm not going to conflate the two. I'm happy.
09:38Not, but the fact that, okay, so you did that, but you couldn't see what we all saw and I
09:45remember, oh, they'll be okay.
09:46They'll be fine. And I'm going to, now I can harken back. Yeah. Last summer. Hey guys, this offensive line
09:52ain't good.
09:53They'll be fine. It'll work out. They're NFL players. Trust the system until it didn't.
10:00And now I look at this secondary and I look at everybody in the North. Good luck with that.
10:05I might even go with Justin Jefferson. Good luck with covering the bears receivers. Good luck with the pack.
10:11Here's what I, let me just do this quickly. I want to back you away from the ledge.
10:16Okay. Maybe there's a corresponding move as there are a couple interesting veteran free agent corners that they could bring
10:25in that I, again, I'm not a fan of Terry and Arnold.
10:28I just don't think he's any good. They wouldn't be worse than Arnold. If they go out and they add
10:35a depth piece, whether it's a Rasul Douglas or otherwise, I can, I can get by.
10:40But the problem is teams like the Rams go, look, we have a problem in the secondary cut scene. They
10:46traded for an all pro and a pro bowl.
10:49Let's go raid the, uh, what was it? The chiefs. Let's just take. Oh, and in the same off season,
10:53got miles Garrett. Whereas you are relying on rake straw to stay healthy.
10:58I'm terrified of that. You're going to go out and just pick up a corner and spin the wheel as
11:05safety.
11:05They are one injury at corner from being DEFCON one. And I liked the Dabney pick. He fell to them
11:11in the fifth round. I thought he'd be drafted higher, but it's not fair to ask a fifth round pick
11:14to like save your franchise in the secondary.
11:17No, decidedly not. That's like them asking mahogany, a sixth round pick to be a pro bowl guard. He was
11:23not two, four, eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97. Rico, take him to church.
