Texas Senate RUNOFF is exploding into a full-scale political war as John Cornyn FIRES at Trump in his final pitch before the high-stakes Texas U.S. Senate vote. With tensions boiling inside the Republican Party, the Texas Senate RUNOFF has suddenly become one of the most closely watched political battles in America, drawing national attention from MAGA supporters, conservative voters, and political analysts across the country. In a dramatic closing message ahead of the Texas U.S. Senate vote, John Cornyn took direct aim at Donald Trump, sparking outrage, intense reactions, and fierce debate online. The Texas Senate RUNOFF is now being seen as a major test of Trump’s influence inside the GOP, with many asking whether traditional Republican leaders like Cornyn can survive in a party increasingly shaped by Trump-era politics.

00:00I want to thank Jimmy Granbury for being here today, your district attorney.
00:07And J.C. Hooper, the sheriff, is with us today.
00:15And I want to thank everybody who's standing here behind me who's said kind things about me.
00:22In my line of work, I'm grateful when people say nice things.
00:29Don't ever look at the comment section on my social media feed because, you know, part of politics is sort
00:36of the slings and arrows that go along with it.
00:40But it's really an honor to be here with all of you, particularly all of the men and women in
00:46law enforcement.
00:47And I've made it my job to support them because they put themselves between us and harm's way to keep
00:56us safe.
00:58And, you know, if you think about it, nothing else really matters.
01:02Well, it matters, but nothing else really can happen in the absence of public safety.
01:08And it is the men and women represented by the folks up here who do it day in and day
01:13out, who represent the officers who, you know, hug their spouse goodbye in the morning and say goodbye to their
01:22kids.
01:22And they don't know whether they're coming back that night because bad things sometimes happen when they put themselves between
01:30us and people who are intent on breaking our laws and committing horrible acts of crime in our communities.
01:40So this is kind of a strange position for me to be in after Sandy and I, you know, have
01:46been married 46 years and we've been through a lot of contested elections.
01:51But in many ways, I feel like there's never been more at stake in an election than this one.
01:59And it's unusual because this is a runoff election.
02:03I'll give you some numbers that may be interesting to you.
02:07They were to me 11% of registered voters voted in the Republican primary, 11% of 18.6 million
02:16registered voters, 12% voted in the Democratic primary, which to me indicates that the Democrats are pretty fired up
02:24and see an opportunity here in Texas in November, depending on how this runoff occurs.
02:31But what that means, that's I would say that's the bad news.
02:34I would love to see more people participate in the selection process.
02:39But the good news is a full three quarters of registered voters in Texas can still vote in this runoff.
02:47And so I hope you'll use that information as you reach out to your friends and coworkers and allies to
02:55encourage them to participate, even if they didn't have a chance to do it on March 3rd.
03:01They can still make a difference today in early voting and on May the 26th, next Tuesday.
03:08One of the challenges is the one-off is the day after Memorial Day, and maybe voting isn't the top
03:16of mind for a lot of people.
03:18So the best insurance is to vote today, but failing that to encourage people to vote the day after Memorial
03:25Day.
03:26I have every confidence we will win this race, and let me tell you why it's important, and it's not
03:31because of me.
03:33It's not because of me.
03:35It's because I've worked for decades to try to make sure that the Republican Party leads this great state,
03:42because we are the conservative party with the right sort of policies and the right leadership to make Texas the
03:50envy of the nation.
03:52People are voting with their feet and leaving failed states like California to come to Texas because we are still
03:58the land of opportunity.
04:00This is the American dream that's still alive and well in Texas, because you can come here with nothing.
04:07Work hard, create value, create jobs, so people can then work and provide for their family and add value to
04:18their community and our state.
04:21And that's why this race is so important, because we cannot take a step backward.
04:27Texas and what we built here over the last three or so decades is worth fighting for.
04:33And that's why I'm in the race.
04:37But I'll also tell you what the consequence would be if Ken Paxton is the nominee.
04:43And I won't dwell on his many scandals and all the baggage he brings.
04:49If you're really, really curious, I'll just ask you to refer to a website called crookedken.com.
04:56That'll tell you everything you want to know and more.
05:00But the fact of the matter is, he's a flawed candidate, and he will have a real chance, a good
05:06chance, of losing the race in November.
05:09We haven't elected a Democrat statewide in Texas since 1994.
05:13This would be the first crack in the Republican dominance in Texas politics, and who knows where it would go
05:24from there.
05:25But even if he didn't lose that race, which I think there's an even chance that he would, because of
05:31all the baggage that he'll have to litigate in front of a general election voter, the independents and Democrats and
05:38everybody else,
05:39and I can guarantee there's a reason why James Tallarico raised $27 million in the first quarter of this year
05:46from a national donor base who are just chomping at the bit for him to win this nomination,
05:55because it will provide an opportunity not just in the Senate race, but everything down ballot, too.
06:02In a midterm election, of course, President Trump's not on the ballot, and so the top race on the ballot
06:07is the U.S. Senate race, and then it's the congressional race, and then it's the governor and everybody else.
06:13But I've run for office down ballot, and we always depend on the people at the top of the ballot
06:20to help us out.
06:21In 2020, I won by 10 points, and I think that helped down ballot races, but I can tell you
06:29that if Ken Paxton is at the top of the ballot, he will have no coattails.
06:34He will be an albatross around the neck of all of our candidates, and so this will have a ripple
06:40effect, not only through the statehouse,
06:43through our judges, our county officials, and all the way down the ballot, and we simply can't risk that.
06:52So I always love coming to Corpus Christi, and it seems I agree.
06:56It seems like I end up spending a fair amount of time here because I have so many good friends
07:01here,
07:03but also we're trying to help on some very important issues.
07:06I was down here recently with President Trump at the port.
07:10That was a great, great event, and I'm really happy the President came down here with Secretary Wright
07:15to recognize the great things that are happening at the port, and it's exciting to see,
07:20and we're doing everything we can to help the port grow and create even more jobs and opportunity there.
07:26But also, the Corpus Christi Army Depot.
07:31As you know, these are highly skilled individuals who we are at risk of losing to other parts of the
07:38country or retirement
07:39unless we can get more work to the depots.
07:44And I was proud to bring the undersecretary of the Army down here with me, who I thought had some
07:49very encouraging words to say
07:51about additional missions that the depot could take on with all the new sort of aircraft, including drones and the
08:01like.
08:02But given the change in the nature of warfare, we're seeing some of the demand, for example,
08:09for the helicopters and things that they have been ordinarily used to repairing and replacing.
08:15Wayne, but I was very encouraged, and I hope you are, that the depot will be revitalized
08:21and we'll be able to keep all those incredible artisans and talented people right here in town
08:27and to continue to grow and contribute to the prosperity of this great county and this great part of the
08:34state.
08:35So I will close on this.
08:38In all the elections Sandy and I have run in, I've found one thing to be true,
08:45true, and that is the candidate who gets the most votes wins.
08:54I know it sounds kind of silly to say, but it's actually true.
08:58It's not rocket science.
09:01And, you know, even though I'm proud to support President Trump's policies,
09:05and I voted with him 99.3% of the time, I am an ally to the president.
09:13But Texans get to choose our senator and no one else.
09:19And so I would encourage all of you just to reach out, particularly to people who didn't vote on March
09:23the 3rd,
09:24and encourage them to participate.
09:26Those of you who have one of these things, this is either a blessing and a curse, right?
09:34But I bet you've got a bunch of contacts in your phone, and you can send them text messages.
09:40You can send them an e-mail saying, I'm voting for Senator Cornyn.
09:44It's really important for you to cast your ballot today, if you can, and if not, on May the 26th.
09:52And I'm optimistic that we can win this race.
09:57Again, the president's entitled to make his choice for whatever reasons he decides to make,
10:02but this is up to us, Texans.
10:06And as I said, we've fought too hard and too long to build this state up as the envy of
10:12the nation
10:13in order to let this slip away, slip through our fingers.
10:16So thank you all for being here.
10:18Thank you for what you have done.
10:20Thank you for what you will do.
10:24God bless Texas, and God bless the United States of America.
10:31If you're unsuccessful Tuesday, this could be the last time you're on the campaign trail for yourself.
10:36It's a very long political career.
10:38Given all that, do you have any regrets about this campaign?
10:41Anything you think the voters need to hear from you that they haven't heard yet?
10:44No, I think people who've been paying attention have heard us send the message, as I've described here today.
10:50And the one reason why I'm running for re-election is because there's so much at stake.
10:56And I think Ken Paxton would squander all the great progress we've made in Texas.
11:03And I think he'd be at risk of losing the Senate seat in November.
11:09And certainly, as I said, wiping out our down-ballot races.
11:13That's why I'm in the race, and that's why I'm here to encourage people to get out to vote.
11:18So you're not feeling particularly reflective.
11:20Full steam ahead to Tuesday?
11:21Absolutely.
11:23Senator, how do you respond to attacks from your opponent and your supporters that are calling you a rhino?
11:31Well, I've got a question for them.
11:33That if I've supported President Trump 99.3% of the time, if that makes me a rhino, what does
11:41that make President Trump?
11:43In other words, it's not based in reality.
11:46It's just name-calling.
11:47It's kind of like maybe junior high school.
11:52So it doesn't mean anything.
11:54So I'm happy to run on my record.
11:56But as you know, it's a free country.
11:59People can say whatever they want.
12:00But there's no basis for that.
12:03Senator, what are those hot Tuesdays?
12:06Can you just reflect on what it feels like to end the administration in this runoff against the attacks and
12:12getting endorsed?
12:13Not by President Trump and Trump endorsing attacks despite your worst warning of the Senate.
12:17Can you just talk about how it feels and seeing sort of where this is the quality of the defense?
12:22Well, I feel great about my chances because we've been traveling the state and the support is real.
12:32There were people talking about us basically being defeated in the primary, and we came out in first place.
12:39I think you're going to see a similar surprise on May the 26th.
12:44We've been doing a get-out-the-vote effort that has surpassed anything and everything that I've ever been involved
12:51in before.
12:52Because, as you heard, one of the problems we have these days is that people just don't vote in primaries.
12:59And runoffs typically are even less of a turnout than the primary itself, the runoffs.
13:05And so I don't know why anybody would delegate to a handful of voters their right to choose the candidate
13:15of their choice.
13:16I mean, here we are 250 years into our American experiment and our right to self-government.
13:25Why would you give that up and delegate it to somebody else?
13:27So we're here to say it's important to vote, there's a lot at stake, and hopefully people will respond.
13:34Senator, thank you so much for doing this.
13:36This is the Trump Center for Fox.
13:37There was a Washington Examiner article that came out recently that you're 10 days since you're highlighting.
13:41That was titled, Sexual Assault Victims Can I Trust? Can I Maxine?
13:44Obviously, this is a growing class that I'm looking at that game.
13:46How do you attempt to emphasize the supporters that already had some forms of distrust in the Can I Maxine?
13:50How can you make the support fund issue with only a few days left before they're on hold?
13:54Well, there's a reason why law enforcement is supporting me.
13:58It's because basically Ken Paxson's been soft on crime.
14:02And he's found himself in the dock, basically as a criminal defendant himself,
14:06and has a tainted reputation, to be sure.
14:10But I think some of these cases that we've seen where the local DA has recused themselves
14:18and the Attorney General's office has come in to prosecute,
14:21he's cut some deals, including with child predators, who have just been indefensible.
14:26And I think as somebody who has always been very supportive of prosecutions,
14:33of sex traffickers and predators, it is unacceptable to me.
14:36But here's the worst part.
14:38The plea deal they cut, for example, up in Waco recently,
14:43where the lawyer was Nate Paul's lawyer,
14:48the real estate developer that Paxton was defending and resulted in his impeachment.
14:55They agreed to a deal that did not even require this person who was preying on this young boy,
15:04didn't even require him to be registered as a sex offender.
15:08And what happens when you deal with these type of predators is that if they're not stopped,
15:14they continue attacking people again and again and again until they are stopped.
15:22They won't stop on their own.
15:23So Paxson's record is just abysmal.
15:26And I think that's one reason why we thought it was important to point out.
15:30And real quick follow-up, I'll evidently ask the President's enforcement now,
15:33how can you just make a decision between character flaws and distrust in a potential senator and something that says,
15:40well, you know what, President Trump's enforcement, he can't be that morally corrupt.
15:44What's your response to that?
15:45Well, I would just ask him to look at the record.
15:48You know, Ken Paxson's lied to the taxpayers.
15:51He's lied to his hand-picked leadership that he fired and became whistleblowers
15:57because they turned him into the FBI for interfering with an investigation of one of his campaign donors.
16:04And he's destroyed his own marriage and his family.
16:08I don't know why people would think based on that record that you can trust anything Ken Paxson says.
16:14I don't believe you can.
16:15Senator, we had leaders, city leaders in Washington the last couple of days talking about the water crisis.
16:22There's still a lot of work to do.
16:23What do you have to say about the water situation?
16:26Well, I think the leadership here in the county and the city know that we want to be partners.
16:33And I believe there is federal funding that can be made available once the local stakeholders decide exactly what the
16:40path forward is
16:41that I think I can bring some additional resources to help pay for some of the solutions.
16:48The desalination solution is, I think, a creative one, and I certainly support it.
16:55And we stand by ready to do anything and everything we can to help.
16:58You being from this area, you understand the situation and what residents go through.
17:03Is that kind of?
17:04Yeah, I mean, it's, you know, sometimes it rains, sometimes it doesn't.
17:08And we've been through a terrible drought.
17:10And we've also got a problem in that we don't build things like surface water reservoirs because of permitting problems
17:20and the difficulties of building new things like that.
17:23So the desalination, I think, is a creative solution to the problem, but it's not the only solution.
17:29But the state, because we have been growing, we've been getting out ahead of the resources that we have on
17:36things like water
17:37that are essential to life and to attracting your business.
17:41Let's do one more and then we'll go.
17:42You've said characters on the ballot repeatedly.
17:45A significant accent does run on Tuesday.
17:47Can you talk about what that would say to you about the party, about politics?
17:52Well, that's why I think it's so important we get more participation, because I think the small fraction of people
17:59who actually vote
18:00are not necessarily representative of the whole state and all voters.
18:04So that's the reason why we're working hard as we can to try to get a broader base to the
18:11electorate to make that choice,
18:13because I believe that character does still matter.
18:15And it is on the ballot.
18:19Thanks.
