00:11The Emergency Animal Disease Hotline providing information and advice to South Australians.
00:17But two citizen scientists say they were given incorrect information after discovering a
00:23dead bird at Glenelg.
00:25I guess what was a surprise for us is being advised to collect the bird.
00:31That advice seemed to be contrary to what we know is the advice.
00:38The information they say they were given not consistent with current directions.
00:44If you don't know about the bird flu and you were to have followed that advice, I feel
00:49that you would have been put at risk.
00:51Official advice is not to touch the bird, record what you see and report the sighting
00:57to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline.
01:01The State Government is investigating the incident.
01:04We haven't been able to identify the staff member or a staff member giving incorrect information.
01:09PIRSA has reiterated the information which is to avoid contact with dead wildlife, to record
01:15it and to report it to that Emergency Animal Disease Hotline.
01:18The Department of Primary Industries held a meeting with vets on Saturday afternoon after
01:23it became aware that some clinics are no longer accepting sick wild birds.
01:28For now, authorities and the public still on high alert.
01:32So I'll see you soon, we'll see you soon.
