00:00Mark, this is an interesting situation that the Celtics are in right now.
00:04I mean, they've really kind of messed up putting it so publicly, Jalen, in this trade.
00:08They, you know, they shot their shot.
00:09They went for Giannis.
00:11It didn't work.
00:12And now it seems like Brad Stevens is hell-bent on trading Jalen Brown, who is an amazing player.
00:19He runs his mouth a little bit.
00:21But, you know, we can't let that cloud just how great a guy this is.
00:24I mean, he was in discussions for MVP last season.
00:27But now it's looking like Jalen Duren.
00:30There is at least something that was thrown out there, whether or not the Pistons and the Celtics have been
00:35talking.
00:36What do you think about that trade that has kind of been bandied about, about Jalen Duren for Jalen Brown?
00:42Where do I run to turn that trade in, please?
00:45Where do I go?
00:46Yep.
00:47It's going to take me a shorter time than it is for this interview to end for me to turn
00:52that card in, quite honestly.
00:54You know, it is very interesting.
00:55So much is leaking these days.
00:58The confidence within those war rooms.
01:01There are defectors, seemingly, on all sides.
01:04But you're right.
01:05How many times can you put Jalen Brown's name into circulation without him feeling like, okay, I'm not really wanted
01:13here?
01:14And it was fascinating to see.
01:16I thought Boston's offer for Giannis actually significantly bested Miami's.
01:23No question.
01:23I was actually incredibly surprised that that was the offer Milwaukee took then, rotate bigs at him to give him
01:30problems.
01:31But that wasn't supposed to be the issue against Cleveland.
01:34Cleveland is scrawny with a capital S in the center.
01:38And Duren was supposed to have his way with those guys.
01:41It didn't at all.
01:42And then, something the NBA needs to solve.
01:46All right?
01:46Explain to me how and why you make an all-NBA team and it hurts your team, right?
01:52You go from 25% of the salary cap to 30% of the salary cap.
01:55That bonus shouldn't count against individual teams.
01:59You shouldn't be penalized for your player earning an all-NBA honor.
02:04But be that as it may, Jalen Duren is now saying, look, the Lakers just gave Austin Reeves the max.
02:10I made an all-NBA team.
02:11I'm due 50-plus.
02:13The Pistons are coming in in the 30s.
02:15And the Pistons are coming in in the 30s because that's the level of contract that he merits right now.
02:21You don't pay for the second most dangerous P-word potential.
02:24You do not pay for potential.
02:26You pay for production.
02:29And that was largely absent.
02:32You can hope and dream and perhaps he develops.
02:35But at this particular juncture, Jalen Duren doesn't even have a go-to move.
02:39And he's getting by on his God-given gifts.
02:42Well, I think one thing we've learned from these playoffs is that age is way more a factor than, I
02:47mean, you look at the Spurs.
02:49They just, youth caused them so many issues.
02:51I mean, the dumb mistakes they made, you know, and, like, not being on that big stage enough.
02:59It's never been more apparent how you have to be a little seasoned in order to be a success in
03:05the postseason.
03:06I don't think it's always been that way.
03:07But now it seems like more than ever it's been more blatant.
03:11Well, no doubt about it.
03:13And, boy, did the Knicks ever get the perfect matchup for them.
03:16I don't think they would have beaten Oklahoma City.
03:17They beat San Antonio the one way they could.
03:21But I'd like to turn the question to you guys, if I may.
03:25Because I'm on the air this evening on 97.1 in Detroit.
03:30Would you accept that trade at this point?
03:32No.
03:33Jalen Duren's side and trade for Jalen Brown.
03:35And I like Jalen Duren a lot.
03:37But, I mean, all we've been seeing since the Giannis trade is pennies on the dollar return for Jalen Brown.
03:43And it's really frustrating.
03:45I mean, you get it for a guy like Giannis.
03:48But, I mean, Jalen Brown was, as I was saying, I mean, the guy was in the conversation for MVP.
03:54He's one of the better players in the league.
03:57And what are we doing talking about Evan Mobley, you know, Jalen Duren.
04:01These are all good players.
04:02They're not Jalen Brown.
04:04And so, no, we're all frustrated as hell.
04:07I absolutely despise the Shams report that Brad could trade him for four first-round picks.
04:13Like, that's insanity.
04:14If he does that, then that changes everyone's impression of not only Brad Stevens, but ownership.
04:20The new ownership and what they're planning on doing.
04:22So, yeah.
04:23No, no.
04:23We are not happy at all, Mark, with that.
04:25No, not at all.
04:26Well, it's interesting because Desmond Bain went for four first-round picks.
04:30And Bridges to New York went for five.
04:33By that count, Jalen Brown should go for ten, right?
04:36Right, right.
04:37It does seem like great.
04:38They would get a little screwed.
04:39And apparently the next couple of drafts stink, from what I've heard.
04:42Like, I guess, like, the next two years, there's nothing special.
04:46We had, was it Jeff Goodman on before?
04:48And, you know, he knows more about college basketball and all that than I do.
04:51And he was just like, yeah, yeah, don't expect anything great over the next two seasons.
04:54So, that got me excited, too, when I heard about the four first-round picks.
04:58No doubt about that.
05:00And I would say that, you know, there is nothing on the Pistons roster short of Cade Cunningham that Boston
05:08should move Jalen Brown for, right?
05:10But you reach a point where, you know, look, the damaged goods are and the relationships are burned to such
05:18a point that Brad Stevens might look at it like addition by subtraction just to move on, just to start
05:24fresh.
05:24But I'm going to tell you, Detroiters would be dancing in the streets.
05:28I mean, Detroit might even throw in a couple first-round picks to make that deal happen.
05:34This team is, this city is used to having to extract more out of less, is used to getting a
05:41Buco, a Corey in the draft, Isaiah, Joe via trade, and just having to make use out of that and
05:47a Duncan Robinson.
05:48Stars don't call Detroit home, but a star would if this trade could come down the pike.
05:54Absolutely.
05:54Well, Mark Ryan, 97.1, the ticket in Detroit.
05:57Good buddy of our friend Ted Johnson.
05:59It's great talking to you, man.
06:00We'll check in with you real soon.
06:02Listen to you guys all the time.
06:04Have a great one.
