00:08on the
00:09radio that shit's gonna get wild down there rock metal frog and everything in between welcome to
00:17this episode of talking rock with meltdown don't forget to follow the audio only talking rock
00:22podcast on all podcast platforms and now it's time for today's conversation here's meltdown
00:29hey tim good to see you man where are you at are you like in uh you know hunting or
00:32something in
00:33cabin what's going on i am in my tour coach because i just spent uh two months driving around
00:39this thing and i have a hard time getting out of it so i live in the yard for quite
00:42a while till i
00:43can adjust to going back inside i haven't yet so i'm sitting here in wise river montana oh my god
00:48you're making me jealous man coach man sitting in the coach i'm a weirdo like that adjusting from
00:55being on the road for that long is actually it's a weird challenge it's a strange thing you don't
00:59understand unless you do it um and so i just i've got a show friday in montana and then i
01:05gotta leave
01:06monday for stockton so i just live in my suitcase my suitcase is still over there and i've been at
01:10home for three weeks my wife's like are you gonna grace this with your presence i'm like come out to
01:15the motorhome yeah there you go yeah why not right well uh man you're making me jealous with all that
01:21open space out there uh i'm gonna see you by the way at sturgis i'm gonna be out there no
01:25way
01:26yeah awesome i'll be broadcasting at the full throttle with uh jesse and the boys so yeah
01:31cool very cool yeah you're opening up for a jackal on i believe the 13th if i'm not mistaken correct
01:36yeah yeah and we just played detroit man i went to mom's spaghetti that place is good yeah what'd you
01:41yeah i think you think that was okay yeah i had a great time and the girls there were sweet
01:45as they
01:45could be and then they sent me upstairs to look at eminem's little gift shop yeah and i made the
01:51weirdest conclusion that my single wide trailer had the same wall that his trailer did and i was
01:57like i kind of paused and i was like i know this this looks like my childhood bedroom and i
02:02was like
02:03we grew up similar but very different yeah well yeah for sure uh you know so the radio station here
02:10is off of eight mile which is you know where you probably saw the movie and stuff yep yeah yeah
02:15so
02:15yeah next time you come up you're gonna swing by uh eight mile uh the uh the new record is
02:19uh
02:19coming out on july 31st we'll get to that here in a second but uh right away i just had
02:24to ask you
02:24about this so in the song break me down you say ghost in the basement have you ever had a
02:28paranormal
02:28experience at ufo i had one paranormal experience actually filming what was supposed to be a bs
02:38series called tim montana out of water we went ghost hunting and they rented a vrbo and these
02:43professional tv guys were like making noises and stuff and trying to get me that scared i'm like
02:47guys i have a friend that has a barn with a graveyard next to it where a family was murdered
02:53by
02:54like some last native war they had in tennessee in like the 17 or early 1800s let's go somewhere
03:01that really he's seen things and they were kind of like okay and we went there and something clawed the
03:07wall and growled and i knew it was legit because the camera dude drops camera and bolts and i welcomed
03:15it i love that kind of stuff i'm like man i'm into that so yeah you had a ufo experience
03:20too
03:20yeah the ufo experience was wild that was uh probably three years ago i was driving the charlie
03:26sheen bus i drive so it's late at night i'm going from billions to great falls
03:31and between billions and great falls is our nation's nuclear uh weapons stuff is up there
03:37and i actually just went and played for the troops at that base melmstrom air force base
03:41and so i'm traveling through it is pitch black two lane highway i remember the sign like it was
03:46yesterday dead man's gulch and i look up and i think i see a train like in the tree line
03:50going
03:50like white lights going like this and i'm like oh wow a train that's a lot of lights on a
03:55train i guess
03:56they have white spotlights on each car maybe it's a mining train and then uh our background singer
04:01molly brown sitting up front she's like doesn't look like he's going that way it looks like it's
04:05spinning what would be spinning with white lights and so i slow the bus down and we're watching it
04:10there's like this hill right here and we're watching this thing oscillate huge size of a football field
04:17and set down in the field so i pull the bus over get everyone else up i'm screaming
04:23and we can now see over that hill this entire field is lit up like a football field and we're
04:29like okay so we had a full conversation but i was stopped on a corner there's a big no trespassing
04:34sign with a barbed wire fence i'd already glocked up like my nine millimeter was going to do something
04:40to a spacecraft and we voted against going over there because my drummer's like a it's no trespassing
04:48b what are we going to do when we walked up on a spacecraft that's that big or whatever kind
04:54of
04:54craft that was and we kept going but i'll tell you what that i went back to that spot on
04:59the way out
04:59there's nothing in that field there's no railroad tracks there's nothing and that thing was so big
05:05and so lit up and so many of us witnessed it together wow how many years ago is this two
05:11or three
05:11probably three years ago wow that's a great story man that's awesome right between billions great
05:17falls the sign says dead man's gulch and that sucker sat down on the field right behind the hill
05:22wow well we'll have to send some investigators over there uh july 31st like i said the new record
05:29you just mentioned uh charlie sheen you know i forgot that you had his bus and stuff but uh he's
05:33on
05:33your record a robert patrick of course richard patrick's brother the terminator whatnot uh jerry
05:37cantrell slash uh billy f gibbons i mean you got all these uh you got all these special
05:42martin machine don't forget yeah martin sheen yeah that's right man you got all these guests
05:46uh what's what's with that um i haven't done a lot of collab stuff i've done here and there and
05:52then with this record it was kind of a full circle moment of i made a list of my ultimate
05:57heroes and i
05:58got them all plus more i thought i'd get i remember being like so do we want slash or cantrell
06:04and i tried
06:05for both and got both and i'm like whoa not knowing that either were even possible um so yeah
06:11just man it's a full circle moment of my heroes and then it kind of ended up getting the movie
06:17stars
06:17from the same era that i discovered these bands so i'm like this is like a throwback to my youth
06:23of
06:23like actors musicians like it's ended up being really cool so well it is so cool i saw the uh
06:29i saw
06:30the spin article where you talked about you know your favorite five albums and obviously uh dirt was in
06:34there and your favorite record according to the list anyways was uh appetite for destruction do
06:39you remember the first time you met slash did you tell him about that or did you tell him how
06:43much of
06:43an impact it had i didn't until later i played with him at billy gibbon's birthday jam um we did
06:50lagrange and california love together it's kind of that was just recently at the troubadour is that the
06:54one yep yep down the troubadour and we didn't have too much time to visit because he's slashed and he
06:59was getting hounded by everybody but then when billy sent you know called him and said hey
07:04i want you to play on this song slash agreed to play on the song before he heard the song
07:08which i
07:08was like you know papa rock says play on a song slash is like yes sir but uh i texted
07:15him after
07:16the fact there was an article that someone wrote that the first tape i'd ever found and that's why
07:20i had to put appetite for destruction there it wasn't the whole record it was a tape at our pawn
07:25shop
07:25the one side had mr brownstone the other side i welcome to the jungle yeah it was a radio promo
07:30thing
07:30from the 80s and and we had it in our pawn shop in a box of you know i'd always
07:35get cds and tapes and
07:37my mother was like super religious and she hated anything edgy rock cussing but yet she'd give me
07:44these boxes from the pawn shop so i discovered tool in there i was like whoa she only wanted to
07:49be
07:50music i'm like sick and one time there was a box to nudie magazines in there and my mom didn't
07:57know
07:57it i'm like wow and you still got those in that camper right there so that's right but yeah that
08:04song's called brown sugar man that song is is a that's a jam yeah that was fun wasn't it and
08:10that
08:10intro too you hear billy's jewelry vibrating around that was just him one take with the mic
08:16a guitar no iso booth and he was instructing me on how to play the song that wasn't supposed to
08:22be
08:22on the record like tell tim this is how you play it and he sent it to me and i'm
08:26like i'm not gonna
08:27redo that because that would be gross of me to even attempt to do something like that because you
08:32sound so cool so we just put it on the album like that and i was like i'll start later
08:37in the
08:37song gibbons you're gonna open it up so well as somebody once told me billy gibbons is always the
08:42coolest guy in the room always even in his pajamas man he just has a presence about him
08:47i mean even kid rock would agree with that you know i think that's i think that's who told me
08:52that
08:52right right and i've seen those two years ago i drove billy up there and they start bickering
09:00about this and that and i'm like oh god i hate it when rock stars bicker it makes me really
09:05uncomfortable and then billy goes get me a plate of food bob and bob like walks in and he goes
09:11don't
09:11tell him i said this but i'd fold his underwear if he asked hey i went to rock's house one
09:19day
09:19he made me spaghetti so see he's making me dinner too he's pretty good at the dinner game yeah there's
09:25no doubt so the record drops on july 31st so tell us a little bit more about the uh about
09:30the album
09:30of course break me down is out and uh brown sugar uh tell me about the rest of it yeah
09:35man i've got
09:36the features on there um 16 tracks one of my favorites is where i went to the crow reservation
09:43in montana and worked with uh native youth uh singing on it and music video for that i cannot
09:49explain to you how powerful to me it is um it was a full circle moment grew up dancing in
09:54powwows when
09:55i was a kid and got to go work with the crow performers and the drum circle and first crazy
09:59dog
09:59wolf bear um but the video we filmed is on the little bighorn river on the native side we're sitting
10:06bull had his sweat lodge and i didn't even know there was a native side right i just thought it
10:11was the you know battle the little bighorn memorial and park where they have all the gravestones of the
10:15natives that died and custer in the seventh calvary but they have the other side that's owned by
10:19sean real bird and the real bird family and i got permission to go on there and i'm like so
10:25where
10:25was sitting bull sweat lodge where he had the vision of killing custer and they're like you're
10:29standing on it this is where he had his sweat this is where crazy horse this is where all the
10:33tribes
10:33came together for the biggest butt kicking in american war history at that point um and uh it's
10:41pretty wild man pretty powerful so that that one's special um and especially when that video comes out
10:47i've showed it to quite a few people and their jaws just hit the floor like that's the most magical
10:51thing i've ever seen so we we captured some magic there um and even playing it live people go nuts
10:57because i have the tracks with the natives singing in the background that i play i'm like hey i'm
11:00going to feature my friends from crow agency montana so that was either going to be a really
11:05cool art project or a contemporary rock song that can compete in today's market and we accidentally got
11:12both you know my radio team heard it and they're like we're going to go with this thing next so
11:17i'm
11:17just like wow so that's gonna be cool and and down on the reservation too they hear break me down
11:22on
11:22the radio and first crazy dog's like dude we go nuts when we hear it i'm like what are you
11:27guys gonna
11:27do when you hear your voices on the radio that shit's gonna get wild down there
11:34yeah no doubt 16 tracks like you said uh what is uh what is charlie and uh and martin sheehan
11:39doing
11:39on this they're doing a skit for the intro so i asked charlie because he named the album
11:44i asked him to do like an intro of just like uh welcome to the entire state of tim montana
11:50and he
11:50said no no no no no let me write a skit so he wrote a proper skit a courtroom where
11:55he's like
11:55giving a deposition to a prosecutor turns out he's done that before
12:01he wasn't acting no no he's really good at it so yeah but i'm excited man we even did a
12:07cover of
12:08katie perry roar because i learned that from my daughter years ago and uh there's some dark moments
12:13there's fun moments there's cover moments i got my friend royal lynn on here uh it's it's gonna be a
12:19really cool record i can't wait for people to hear it now every time that a record comes on there's
12:24a
12:24bunch of special guests on it i always have to ask was there other people that you tried to get
12:27on but for whatever reason just couldn't couldn't do it not on this one this one i got more than
12:32i
12:32like martin sheen was the random one i was like what charlie's like dude i got my dad to play
12:38the
12:38judge and i was like oh cool and then i kind of paused i'm like your dad so the first
12:46voice on this
12:47record i would have never guessed this in a million years ever is martin sheen he opens the album
12:52yeah it is pretty cool to have those surreal moments like that um so did you meet um did
12:56you meet robert patrick through like jesse at the at the full throttle or anything like where'd you
13:00meet him i met him through jared neiman country artist in nashville okay because they did uso tours
13:07together so he facetimed me with robert then robert comes to montana to film 1923 with taylor sheridan
13:14so we'd regularly go have breakfast and hang out and then i'd meet him down in sturges as well so
13:19and then i go on tour with richard patrick and filter and that was kind of a full circle moment
13:24and uh yeah so robert's become a really good buddy he's been up to my restaurant here in montana a
13:29bunch and just he's been to my mom's house for dinner he's on the trailer house i grew up in
13:34yeah my mom like i said super religious we're sitting around the campfire and she goes robert if
13:40you look at the sky up here you might see a shooting star and he's having a steak and he
13:44looks up and he
13:44sees one and he goes i'm not gonna say it jfc really loud it was the abbreviations for the cuss
13:52he used my mom's like robert he's like oh i'm so sorry
13:58i've never seen anything like that so they're going wow
14:05that's hysterical hey uh by the way and then in that spin did you write this a mediocre father with
14:11a cool bar in montana did you write that part yeah okay i wasn't sure if they were giving you
14:17a bunch of grief or whatever but i thought that's an interesting line i was like damn i must have
14:23been
14:23in full posterior depression when i wrote that line came out around father's day i'm like yikes
14:30oh yeah it's so funny too you mentioned how you know you're living in you know you showed us all
14:34that all that barren land out there and it's like what are the new things on like tiktok or insta
14:39whatever it's like it's hard to go from this to this and that's exactly how you're feeling
14:43right right exactly yeah getting off the stage so well i know you got other interviews dude uh
14:48july 31st a new record drops the entire state of tim montana and uh we will see you on the
14:5413th
14:54if not sooner of august uh for the uh show in sturgis look me up yeah man can't wait let's
