00:00Hi guys, this is Thierry Henry and these are my 10 essentials.
00:11So my first essential, yeah, my passport. Where do you go without it?
00:17What was the most chaotic reality of your career?
00:20Going to Ferro Island. It was windy, we couldn't land, we stayed over at the airport for maybe
00:26eight to nine hours and then we had to learn our way to make sure that we could go and
00:32make the game.
00:32We won, but you still have some footage of how we landed. We landed sideways, it was weird.
00:40I need to have my hoodie. It's a comfort thing for me since I'm young. If I don't have anything
00:46to do during the day or whatever, I'm wearing a tracksuit. You know, I like my hoodie, I like my
00:51hats, I like my cap, I like my beanies. It's comfort. You want to feel like you, you're relaxed
00:58before training, after training. That's me, but you can't go on TV like that. Because, you know,
01:04apparently you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but we do all the time. I'm not going
01:08to go to someone's wedding in a tracksuit, am I? When you wear a suit, you know, you're not
01:13comfortable. That's a lie if someone says it's comfortable. You're comfortable with what you like,
01:17then wear it.
01:21Yes, pretty simple for me. I don't like to disturb people. Make sure that you, you know,
01:26when you make your phone call or watch a video that you don't disturb people. Some people forget
01:31about them sometimes. In the Caribbean, we listen to Zouk and the best group ever is Kassav. So,
01:38whatever Kassav song, I will always have that before the game. Any song will bring me back to my family,
01:44having dinner and the party, and we're all dancing. I can mix it also with some hip-hop
01:49sometimes, it depends, but that will be more in the dressing room and whatnot. But on the bus,
01:53going to the stadium, it was always, always some Zouk. They didn't allow music in the dressing room
01:58when I was younger, especially the senior players. So, when I arrived in England, then I was like,
02:03oh, you can put music in the dressing room? Really? Without anyone complaining? That was cool,
02:07but early doors, I couldn't do it. So, my next essential is my Arsenal hat or cap. You know,
02:17like in Europe, sometimes ex-players or whatever don't often show where they played or stuff like
02:22that, but now I have one and I usually wear it when I go on holiday and that's something I
02:27always carry
02:28with me now. You know, it's very American, shall I say. You know, guys in America, when they go to
02:34university or something, they always wear the hoodie, they always wear the hat or the jacket or
02:38whatever. So, yes, that's the team I support. So, I wear the hat. I became an household fan,
02:44obviously, when I left the club. I didn't realize that when I was a player because you play them,
02:47but when you leave, you're kind of like, oh, that's my club. And so, ever since, you know,
02:52I support the club and it just means everything, really. You could relive one Arsenal moment for 10
02:58minutes. What moment are you choosing? None. It is where it is. I don't think
03:04about anything that I could and should have done or regret anything because it made me a certain way.
03:09Maybe I did something a different way. I wouldn't have arrived where I arrived.
03:12You have to live with your time. So, I lived with my time and did what I did.
03:21I don't go anywhere without my computer. Everyone that knows me knows that I have my music on it
03:28because I cannot live without music. Simple as that. I would watch eventually, yeah, movies, series.
03:37When Lost arrived. Oh, wow. First, second season was very difficult to stop. They made it last
03:44longer than what it should. I can't say that I was disappointed, but I like to get surprised though.
03:51So, my next essentials are my sneakers.
03:59It's a case for a lot of people. I'm a sneakerholic. I start to think about what I'm going to
04:05wear
04:05by choosing my sneakers, always. The first pair of boots that I truly love is the first one I got.
04:13The brand was Patrick. I liked so many after, but the first one, you can't beat your first one,
04:20especially when it was almost impossible for me to get it because it was very expensive.
04:25But that got me a pair and they were studs, like long studs. In Paris, instead of Paris,
04:31you play on clay. It's kind of a weird stadium that we have. And trust me, to play on clay
04:36with studs,
04:37it did hurt a bit. But I was happy.
04:45My toiletry bag. I mean, do I need to even give you an explanation of why it's essential?
04:52I mean, first and foremost, you brush your teeth with cream. I put cream on my face. Sometimes,
04:59if I think about it, my body. Face. Diligence. Perfume. Am I missing anything? Obviously, you put clothes on.
05:13My next essential is the Don Julio 1942 FIFA World Cup Edition 2026 bottle. Yes.
05:27It's not bad, huh? We like the color. The color is nice. You know why? No, you don't. We'll cut
05:33the
05:33color. It's easy to understand. The World Cup colors. What it comes in my head, first and foremost,
05:38when I see the bottle is to celebrate. Not only celebrate a win, which is obvious because more often
05:44than not, if you have a drink at the end of the game, it's because you won, but it's just
05:49a celebration.
05:50Because the World Cup is above, you know, who won. I remember watching the World Cup. The first one that
05:58I remember properly have some memories of 82. Yeah, I know I was high. People would say,
06:04really? You have memories? Yeah, because now you still have scored against West Germany in Sevilla,
06:08that volley. And I couldn't understand why the place went ballistic where I was. So you think of Maradona,
06:13then you think of Mataos in 1990, then you think about Brazil in 1994, then suddenly it's you
06:21and your team being able to win it and go and get the cup at home.
06:28So my next essential, my workout outfit. I think that's the thing that I put first in my bag.
06:36It has to be something to be able to work out. It's just a way of living, state of mind,
06:42always ready to go to the gym. But if I don't work out during the day, I'm a tiny bit
06:47more edgy.
06:52I didn't grow up with having a phone. It's so weird that I guess that's the item for everybody.
06:59It's like, hey, this piece right here is essential. But I don't remember a phone call giving me anything.
07:06And the one that changed my career happened randomly, actually, where I met someone. So
07:12the new generation likes to talk through this. I don't mind it, by the way, but I like to talk
07:18here.
07:19That's why I talk. You know, I like to see the eyes of people and what they're about. Everyone can
07:24talk
07:25behind this.
07:25Nowadays, the football group chats is very popular. What have you learned about leadership from them?
07:30In my time with the United States, not so much also now. You know, leadership is what you do when
07:36you are with people trying to reach the same goal, especially when you're not achieving that goal.
07:42That's where you learn the most about people. But what I would say that change, actually,
07:47forget about the phone, but I said something here. I change in terms of leadership. When I was a
07:52player, if you ask me what's supposed to be a good leader, well, I've said a guy that can lead
07:57well,
07:58talk well, soul hard, never cries and whatnot. And well, I'll tell you the total opposite.
08:04Be vulnerable and have empathy. I'm going to give you a scenario. You can only call Jamie
08:08Kerrigar or Micah Richards. You're in jail and you only get one call to bail you out. Who are you
08:13calling?
08:14I stay in jail.
08:18So, guys, that was me. My 10 essentials. See you later.
