00:00New York appears to be ground zero for a socialist takeover of the Democratic Party.
00:04Democratic socialist candidates endorsed by New York City's mayor will face Republican rivals
00:08in November. In the bluest of blue states, they'll likely win. But will this hard left shift
00:13also play out nationally? And what does that mean for Democratic leadership like Chuck Schumer
00:18and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries? Jeffries in particular endorsed the string
00:22of losers in these contests. Here's The Post's editorial page editor, Mark Cunningham.
00:27The Democratic establishment just got its lunch eaten in New York City, and it's its own fault.
00:33And yes, it's big trouble for Democrats nationally. It's nothing else. It's going to destroy their
00:40power in Washington in the long run. Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, and Hakeem Jeffries,
00:48the House Minority Leader, both from Brooklyn, had all their candidates, their favorite candidates,
00:53lose to Zoran Mamdani's Democratic Socialists of America. Yes, it was Democratic primary. Yes,
01:02turnout was low. But the fact is that they couldn't get their voters out. The establishment has nothing.
01:09It attracts no one except the hacks that are literally on its payroll. And the DSA can pay people
01:16too. I despise the DSA's ideas. I think Schumer and Jeffries do too. But they've never been willing
01:24to say so, never willing to denounce the enemy to their left. And that's burning them. It's burning
01:30Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, who actually endorsed Mandami and embraced him, gave him billions
01:37of dollars in spending his help in his last budget, in order to fend off his challenge, to get the
01:45DSA
01:45not to challenge her in her re-election primary this year. Again and again, Democrats have focused
01:51on winning the primaries, figuring in a blue state that can smash the Republicans in the general
01:56election. And that may remain true. But the problem is, they can be smashed by the farther left
02:02now in the system that they've created, which discourages turnout, discourages people being
02:08interested. Just all they do is buy off special interests that gets them what they need. Buy them
02:13off with taxpayer money, sure. Harm their own economies with their high taxes and crazy spending.
02:19But it doesn't matter as long as they get re-elected, except it does. Because their methods,
02:27their policies wind up harming the state itself. And if the DSA really takes
02:32over, it really takes power, it'll go double and triple on the socialism, on the crazy spending,
02:38and on the high taxes that drives productive people away. That means big trouble for the
02:45Democrats because California, New York, Illinois, they're all losing House seats. They're all losing
02:52population. Soon it will be the Democrats that depend on the Senate to save them from the Republican
02:57majority. Yes, the Republicans have their problems nationwide, but they have at least a potential
03:03national majority as people are repulsed by Democrats' policies. Joe Biden won as a moderate
03:09in 2020. He was handed the nomination by the party establishment because they needed to beat off the
03:16Bernie Sanders challenge. But then in office, Biden embraced the far-left agenda, felt he had no choice
03:22to if he was going to stay on top of the party. Bad stuff on the border, particularly on the
03:28economy,
03:29on everything. Feeding what the party and its left wanted, but alienating the general public,
03:37the general public, the center, so much that they opened the door for Donald Trump's return.
03:422028, will they be just as bad? Trump won't be on the ballot. All but Democrats have recently is
03:48orange man bad, orange man bad. That's not going to work when orange man isn't on the ballot.
03:56I don't know where they go from here, but they're in trouble.
