00:00but that trade really was something that trade was something Kyle Davidson fourth overall pick
00:06deals it to the Buffalo Sabres for Bowen Byram somebody who in 2019 he was a fourth overall pick
00:16of the NHL draft the Blackhawks passed on him when they when they selected Kirby Dock and there was
00:22some debate at the time I recall about those two guys this is his third team he is a defenseman
00:28who's an offensive minded defenseman and he will come here and be the number one defenseman on this
00:33team and he's got he's got a one-year deal he's got one year expiring my sense is that they
00:39would
00:39not have made this deal without talking extension are you sure and it will be a whopping one I'm
00:44I'm all but certain there's no way that you would make that trade you're not giving up the fourth
00:49overall pick without some certainty that you're going to sign somebody long term I would be shocked
00:55if they haven't had that conversation I don't know they usually give up the fourth overall pick
01:00for next to nothing well it's not next to nothing but it is next to it well this isn't it's
01:08the problem
01:08isn't necessarily the player the problem is the price the player is a very good player he's a very
01:14good defenseman he's a guy that's probably going to quarterback your power play he's going to be your
01:19top line defenseman your top pairing there's a lot to be said for him as a player but if you
01:26were
01:26if you're Kyle Davidson I think where the reaction is is that oh my gosh you gave up Louis Crevier
01:31an experienced defenseman you gave up the 45th pick and the fourth pick it's a lot for basically
01:38a player in Byram who is has a good reputation and and is solid and then another one Jordan Greenway
01:47who's a a brawler he's a physical presence but he's not a guy that you necessarily he's a difference
01:53maker here's the thing that bothers me the most as we talk about it later that was the pick that
02:00you
02:00were supposed to get help for Conor Bedard and if you didn't get a wing to help Conor Bedard I
02:07think
02:07you missed an opportunity so it feels incomplete right now because they may have other things planned
02:13maybe Jason Robertson's walking through that door but right now it's hard to fathom why they were
02:18motivated to make this trade especially and the the draft is Friday right Friday just saying and
02:28there's all sorts of rumors about who's going where and who might fall and who it seems like you pulled
02:34the trigger off when the Sharks unloaded Eklund and they made that big trade with Ottawa that means
02:39that meant they were going to be zeroed in on the forward at number two okay and Stenberg likely
02:45going to the Sharks at number two meant the first three picks will be forwards and if the Hawks were
02:49going to be drafting the defenseman at four they'd rather have a veteran they'd rather have a veteran
02:54and now if there was another forward that they thought they could get it for they might not have made
02:59this trade that's a lot of speculation that's like a lot of interpretation but that is the best way to
03:05look at it the Sharks making that trade precipitated what came next for the Hawks and now they've got a
03:12defenseman who's well thought of an offensive minded guy on the blue line but also this is his third team
03:19and he's not yet 26 okay all righty I mean the guy's done a good job of getting high draft
03:27picks
03:29this is the first time time he's I'm only explaining it I don't think that I like it
03:33yeah I I'm confounded by it and everybody on twitter didn't like it at all it got roundly
03:39it was roundly criticized what isn't well I that's what is it roundly criticized on twitter
