A pilot on his first-ever commercial flight fought back tears of pride when his girlfriend and mom surprised him in the cockpit after landing having secretly flown with him. Over the past few years, Mason Kendrick, 30, from Salt Lake City, Utah, had put in countless hours of training and build flights, with his girlfriend, Hannah Bentley, 26, supporting him every step of the way. When Mason added a note into their shared calendar, saying he was set to pilot his first commercial flight, Hannah immediately knew she had to be there to support and congratulate him. She called Mason's mom, Michelle, and said she was thinking of doing "something crazy" and booking a seat on the plane. Michelle was all in, too, and the pair purchased standby tickets in the hope that they would make it onto the flight.

00:00My boyfriend has been training to become a commercial pilot for the last few years,
00:05and today is his very first flight with passengers.
00:08He doesn't know this, but I'm going to be one of his passengers, and I'm so excited.
00:14Mason has wanted to be a pilot for a while.
00:17He actually started his journey in 2019.
00:22It's a lot of work. It's a grind.
00:24I saw his first flight was scheduled on our Google Calendar, and I looked at my work schedule
00:30and was like, this is going to work out perfectly. I've got to make it happen.
00:34I called his mom the day before, and I was like, hey, I'm going to do a crazy thing.
00:41I told her what I wanted to do, and she's like, oh, I've been wanting to do that.
00:45If you're going, I'm going.
00:46We are going to Montana and back. I'm so proud of him. I cannot wait to surprise him.
00:51My goal is for him to not know I'm on the flight until we touch back down into our home
00:56city.
00:57Okay, I'm on my way to the airport. He doesn't have to be there as early as me,
01:02so he thinks that I'm running to do a quick errand before work.
01:08He had his uniform all ironed and pressed and set out on the bed last night.
01:13That's so cute.
01:16So we went to the gate, and then we went and we were hiding in the bathrooms,
01:19just watching for him, waiting for him and the captain to be able to board so that we could hurry
01:25and go on. It was kind of stressful because we were trying to stay hidden, and then the whole time
01:31on the flight, we were just so giddy.
01:33We're on the plane. We're playing with Mason's mom, and we saw him in the cockpit.
01:39We're heading to Montana for our first flight.
01:43There's been a lot of instances in our relationship where he has been there for me
01:47and supported myself through all of the things I have going on.
01:51I was happy to finally be able to return the favor.
01:56The flight attendant told us that we should surprise him when we land in Montana,
02:01so he knows we're on the flight going home.
02:05We are hiding to slouch down in our seats so that he can't see us,
02:09and she's going to motion for us when it's time to get off the plane to surprise him.
02:13If we're landing, he's landing the plane right now.
02:18It's so good.
02:30How are you guys here?
02:34What the?
02:38Did you guys buy tickets or what?
02:40Don't worry about it.
02:41What the heck?
02:42What the heck?
02:43What the heck?
02:44Are you kidding me?
02:45What the heck?
02:56It was emotional.
02:57That whole cockpit was crying.
02:59I was crying.
03:00His mom was crying.
03:01The flight attendant was crying.
03:03The captain got emotional.
03:05It was really, really special.
03:06He is such a sweet spirit.
03:08He's the first to celebrate other people's wins,
03:11and it felt so cool to be able to return that in such a way that was so meaningful to
03:16him.
