00:00I love Kaminga.
00:01Only Tupac can judge.
00:03It's the guru, Stiney, guru, Stiney, guru, Stiney show.
00:08Let's go.
00:09All righty.
00:10It's time for the crossover brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:13Rest easy.
00:14We've got you covered.
00:15Bayalarm.com.
00:17Let's welcome in Mark Willard and Dan Dibley.
00:19They're at Laughing Monk Brewery in downtown San Francisco.
00:23Fulton and Masonic.
00:26Gents.
00:27Yeah.
00:27I hear the noise.
00:29Oh, yeah.
00:29Let's go.
00:30Bring the noise.
00:31Look at him.
00:32Yeah.
00:33We've got England, Ghana.
00:35We've got people.
00:36We've got food.
00:37No score.
00:39Not yet.
00:40And then we've got the countdown on.
00:42The Warriors are potentially going to be on the clock.
00:47Go ahead, Stiney.
00:48No, I didn't.
00:49Willard, I think I know you because both of you are my brothers.
00:52Of course you know me.
00:53If you have that look like goo, I can't wait to ask you this.
00:56But I might be wrong.
00:57But can I slip in?
00:59I'm so excited about 2 o'clock over at 3rd and King.
01:03Oh, no doubt.
01:03What is Buster going to say?
01:05Give me something, Buster.
01:07Why is Buster going to say anything?
01:09Oh, man.
01:10Is Buster going to do like a mid-season review?
01:13Like, it seems obvious why he's going to talk, which is, you know, Rafi knows he can't do that.
01:19Whatever.
01:20Is it obvious?
01:21I mean, I got multiple choice questions for everybody if it's obvious.
01:26I think it's 50-50 Pride Night Devers.
01:29And how about poor play and everybody's name at the trade deadline that's not even here yet?
01:36That part.
01:37Wow.
01:37I mean, but anyway, go ahead.
01:38It's June 23rd.
01:40Are we really doing like, you know, trade deadline preview?
01:44And if he is actually going to talk about, if he's going to talk about the Rafi Devers situation and
01:49Devers is in the lineup tonight, it's an emasculation sensation of Tony Vitello.
01:54An early buck is what that is.
01:56I'll tell you what.
01:58Well, my question is not even just what he is going to address, but can you guys help me with
02:07how is he going to make any of those things better?
02:11I'll tell you what.
02:12What could he say?
02:13I feel like some people in the Bay think Devers went Sarah Kamaguchi.
02:21Who is the skater from Fremont?
02:25That was a great, great effort.
02:28That's what happened to Sarah Kamaguchi.
02:31Sarah Kamaguchi.
02:32Catching a straight.
02:33Cut that, dude.
02:34No, that's the reason I'm going to make a cut.
02:36I'm a good sheet.
02:38That, please.
02:39Hey, that's the feel like Devers skated, right?
02:42And I think today he can fix that a bit, Willard and Dibbs.
02:46If he just says, I talked to him, that's not Giant Baseball.
02:50My heart.
02:50And bring it back.
02:51I think he could really fix that, and I think a lot of fans are like, okay, Tony didn't do
02:55it, but Buster, can you just let us know that somebody talked?
02:59Not got beat over the head, but I think that would go a long way for me.
03:03Would that make you feel better if someone was just like, I talked to him?
03:07And just say that wasn't Giant Baseball.
03:09That can't happen again.
03:11Something to that.
03:12That, to me, is a little, like, I get why you would feel better as a Giant fan, but that's
03:20pretty flimsy.
03:21Like, you don't need to be told that that's not okay when you're a 29-year-old, decade-long veteran
03:28in Major League Baseball.
03:29So, I talked to him, and we're good now.
03:33Quite frankly, not good enough for me, and I don't think it's good enough for just about everybody we've heard.
03:39Has everybody noticed how offended the baseball world has been by this?
03:46All of the former Giants, Rich Aurelia, J.T. Snow.
03:49How about Keith Law this morning saying he needs multiple days of sitting?
03:54That is wild.
03:55MLB Network could not stop talking yesterday about how embarrassing this was.
04:01Eric Burns.
04:02Yep, yep, Eric Burns, who's like, I know he's a crazy person, but he's like fun and laid back.
04:09Like, he doesn't take stuff too seriously.
04:11And he was beyond bugged.
04:14So, do you believe a suspension is on the table?
04:18It crossed my mind.
04:20Man.
04:20I don't think so, but it crossed my mind.
04:25It's crossed mine, too, and I don't think so either.
04:27I don't either.
04:28That would be, like, it's funny, Mark, like, and Dan, I, yeah, it's a big deal, but no, it's not
04:37that big.
04:38Is it really suspension worthy?
04:42It feels like that would push a little bit of the pendulum in the other direction to where now Rafi
04:49would be like this sympathetic figure a little bit.
04:52Um, because I do think that most people would feel that's a bit of an overreaction.
04:57But, man, like, the San Francisco Giants are just one PR disaster after another right now.
05:06Wow, man.
05:06So, that's why I think it feels like he wants to get out in front of it.
05:10I just, boy, I'm curious to find out how.
05:14I told Stoddy, I think, and I don't want this to happen or be the case, but you mentioned everybody
05:19on MLB Network, former players, guys on NBC Sports Bay Area being open, Mark.
05:25I think there might be some boo birds if he's in the lineup tonight and he comes up for his
05:30first at bat.
05:31I could understand it because, again, I feel like he feels like he's above the law and nobody checked him,
05:37and I'm hoping Buster will just say, again, you know, Dibs, we talk to him.
05:42That can't happen.
05:43Giant baseballs, you know, and that, I think, will kind of, you know, quiet the noise.
05:49It will, and then, you know, Tony V will speak in the dugout in about, you know, two and a
05:53half hours, and he'll be asked that.
05:55And so what's Tony Vitello going to say after Buster?
05:59If Buster actually addresses it and says, yeah, he can't do that, and, you know, we're going to sit him
06:03down for a couple of days, it, to me, feels like he's taking the power away from Tony Vitello.
06:08As much as he's trying to help, the fact that Buster's speaking today, if they address this at all, it
06:15feels to me like it's, you know, defanging Tony Vitello.
06:20Yeah, I don't, I don't, I don't really know what to expect.
06:24Maybe, but, you know, I mean, you know, it's funny, we were just talking about, you know, I don't think
06:29it's nothing, but I don't think it's a huge deal.
06:32But in a way, we don't know if Buster Posey is like, that's it.
06:38Like, that may, it may be bigger to Buster than anybody else, and maybe he's been seeing some, I mean,
06:45maybe they take him off the field and just try to move him as soon as possible.
06:50Well, that would seem drastic to me, but it is one of those things where I am like, huh, what's
06:55he going to say?
06:56Yeah, yeah.
06:58Listen, it would not surprise me at all.
07:00We know who Buster Posey is.
07:02To see something like that on the field, I'm sure, challenges every baseball sensibility that he has.
07:10I'm sure this drove him absolutely nuts.
07:14This is Buster Posey we're talking about.
07:16This is a catcher, a champion, a leader.
07:18This is all of those things.
07:19And so I'm sure this drove him up the wall.
07:22But I'm kind of like, I think what you're saying too, Stein, is I don't really see what is on
07:28the table for him as far as either getting out in front of it or punishing or putting him on
07:36the table and saying we're going to move him.
07:39It's like you still need a partner, and that does not help that.
07:42But I don't know what it is he's going to do that's going to make this better here in six
07:47minutes.
07:47So to Dibbs' point, why do you think the State of the Union today, you know, obviously the first game
07:52back after that debacle Sunday?
07:55The silence is deafening.
07:58Did you all feel like the silence was deafening after the game?
08:02Yeah, I mean, the thing about today is he may come out and say, I'm here to talk about Pride
08:08Night and what happened.
08:10And then someone goes, what about Devers?
08:12He could say, yeah, it's an internal matter.
08:14You know what I mean?
08:15Right.
08:16Like, who knows what he'll say?
08:17He could say that, but it's actually an external matter when Devers goes Mutombo and then yells in his helmet
08:24and then basically avoids everyone in the dugout.
08:27So you could say it's internal, like how you're handling it.
08:30Well, Buster, how are you handling it?
08:32Is he in the lineup tonight?
08:33And we won't know that until about two hours from now.
08:36But Mark actually said yesterday that he would have him just DH for a week.
08:40Like, you're in the lineup, but you don't get to put your glove on.
08:43You just go ahead and DH, and that would be kind of a lightweight punishment, I guess.
08:47But that's like, go to your room, but you can still watch TV.
08:50You know, like, so that was less about Rafi for me and more about Bryce.
08:56The message being Bryce is our first baseman.
09:00Okay, gotcha.
09:01Gotcha.
09:01Bryce is our first baseman.
09:03Gotcha.
09:03If it's Dan Denley V, what are you doing tonight?
09:06What are you doing, Devers, with the pick?
09:08I've been saying this for maybe four months, ever since I started locking in or yocking in, as my daughter
09:14famously would say, on college basketball.
09:16It's Yaxa Lendenborg for me.
09:18And I know that he's older, and maybe he doesn't have the same ceiling that a younger guy has, but
09:24I like what he does on the floor.
09:26And we'll get into all the players who are potentially going to be available at 11, but if you're going
09:31to make the pick, for me, that's the pick.
09:34He's a grown man.
09:35He can play the wing.
09:36He can defend.
09:37He can shoot.
09:38He can pass.
09:39He doesn't have to dribble.
09:41I think that he's the guy.
09:43You know, I want to real quick get back to something Willard said about Posey.
09:49So when, and this is just, I just want to start a conversation.
09:53So when did Buster Posey, as a player, show his true colors more than any other time, kind of?
10:01Wasn't it with Hunter Strickland?
10:05You could argue that.
10:06Okay, so.
10:07You could argue that.
10:07So what bothered him about Strickland, and he showed how upset he was by not doing anything, essentially,
10:16it was probably something that Strickland was breaking the code or wanted to throw at a guy when it wasn't
10:22the right time, if I remember correctly.
10:24So this may be something with Devers that really rubs Posey the wrong way.
10:30I would imagine that it absolutely did.
10:34You know, I still have some head scratching going on about the Hunter Strickland thing,
10:38because I don't know if that was Posey was mad about it, or if Strickland wanted a piece of Harper
10:43so bad that Buster was like, dude, have at it.
10:48He's coming, and I'm not going to stop him.
10:50I don't really know the answer to that one, but what I mean, and I think to your point, Stiney,
10:58we know who Buster Posey is.
11:00This guy has always been a head down, don't show anybody up, team leader, like consummate professional, Hall of Fame
11:11performer,
11:12zip zero kind of flash, and a team guy who's a forever backstop.
11:19Like, I just, that kind of guy sees what Devers did Sunday as just beyond breaking the code.
11:27Yeah.
11:28You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM, and HD1 San Francisco on Odyssey Sports Station.
11:33Always live on the free Odyssey app, now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios.
11:37Had some NBA news today.
11:39Giannis is now a member of the Miami Heat.
11:42Julius Randle's been traded from Minnesota to the Nets.
11:47And the Warriors draft tonight at number 11.
11:51Giannis trade.
11:53I'm trying to figure out how the Heat are supposed to be good with this trade.
11:58Like, why is Giannis excited about this if it's about basketball?
12:04What if LeBron were to put on a Heat uniform?
12:06I know, that's what, like, that's a fun thought, but we have no reason to think that that's coming, do
12:12we?
12:13Yeah, I thought he was going to put on a Warrior one, so I'll fall for anything.
12:16Well, I think that's more likely than the Heat.
12:19I don't think he's going to the East Coast.
12:21I don't think he's leaving.
12:22You know what I mean?
12:22Yeah.
12:23But I'm with you.
12:24Like, Giannis, Bam, and what?
12:26Like, how is that a good team?
12:29This is Andrew Wiggins.
12:30Is that a good team in the East?
12:32Maybe a top four team in the East.
12:34Maybe.
12:35And they're not done adding.
12:37You know, you still got free agency.
12:39Yeah.
12:40You do.
12:41And not a lot of money to spend on it.
12:43I mean, to me, Wiggins is the interesting piece because he can opt in for $30 million,
12:48and then that becomes tradable.
12:50Or you could try to renegotiate that one and, you know, keep him for three years at $70 million or
12:56whatever.
12:56But the Heat definitely have other moves that they can make and will make.
13:01But the other side of it, I like what Milwaukee got.
13:04I love it.
13:04I mean, they got a lot of picks.
13:06They got some swaps.
13:07And they've got some young, potentially good assets.
13:11Can I ask you guys something about the trade that didn't happen?
13:14So, because I think it's applicable to the Giants right now.
13:18How is Boston doing with Jalen Brown now knowing that he was –
13:25this is just like Draymond at the deadline, right?
13:27Like, we put your name in a deal, and we were going to ship you out, and then it didn't
13:32happen.
13:33Similar to everything we've seen about Matt Chapman and Willie Adamas and Rafi Devers over the last few weeks,
13:39where it's like, yep, the Giants would love to get these guys out of here.
13:43Where does that leave a player once he knows nothing doesn't go?
13:48I feel like this has been brewing, and maybe it's not an altogether surprise for both sides.
13:55Like Guru's been saying today, he feels like Brown's kind of trying to talk his way out of Boston for
14:02whatever reason.
14:04You know, this is an interesting one because I get the sense that if Brad Stevens doesn't think Jalen Brown
14:10wants to be there,
14:10he's going to move him.
14:12You know, like tonight.
14:14Oh, well, yeah.
14:16I mean, Steine said earlier that he doesn't think it's tonight, and Guru actually set the over-under on trades.
14:21And I think you're talking about trades involving players.
14:23You put the over-under at two.
14:25Yes.
14:25And, I mean, to me, the Jalen Brown one would be the most shocking or surprising or the most profound.
14:31And, yeah, I'd love to see that happen.
14:33And I guess there's a chance he could land here in a Jimmy Butler swap-a-roo, but I doubt
14:40it.
14:41You know, I was just thinking about LeBron here a little bit.
14:45It just hit me.
14:47I'm willing.
14:48I'd bet my mortgage he's not leaving L.A.
14:51It's a big house you have now.
14:53I know, but, like, it's just hitting me.
14:56So, the guy's 42, right?
14:5841.
14:59Damn.
15:00His oldest kid is 23 or 24, and he plays with him.
15:05He's got, what, three or four other kids who are all probably between 13 and 19.
15:13Like, I kind of, like, now it just hit me.
15:16Now I know why Draymond Green doesn't want to be traded.
15:19Like, his kids are all, they're younger than LeBron's, but, like, you've won four titles.
15:25The writing's starting to show on the wall.
15:27I can see why.
15:29And it doesn't necessarily mean they don't care about championships.
15:32It's that they got their championships, and I'll bet you LeBron doesn't go anywhere.
15:38I mean, I think it's all along.
15:41It's been only if everything falls apart and people get upset with each other does LeBron end up looking elsewhere.
15:47So, I'm with you.
15:48And, by the way, you know, shout out Kevin Durant and the Hamptons Five.
15:55I'm not mad at players if winning a championship late in their career is not what drives them.
16:01If they, if they, if it's family and geography, like, like, did Giannis just make a move to win a
16:07title?
16:08I'd argue no.
16:09But maybe he wants to be in Miami.
16:11Ask where his wife wants to be.
16:13Or, like, who knows what.
16:15But, hey, man, good on you.
16:18Whatever makes you tick.
16:19I mean, so we basically heard a Hall of Fame player describe that, that he, Chris Mullen, when he got
16:28traded to Indiana, he said he was ready to settle in.
16:31His kids were, his kids were young, but there was a chance in Indiana with Byrd and Reggie Miller and
16:37those guys.
16:38And he said, you know what, I'll do that.
16:39But he certainly weighed it.
16:42That's for sure.
16:42And he was ready to stay here and not be bitter about it.
16:46Just kind of go with the flow.
16:48And he was obviously earlier in his career than Draymond is.
16:51I mean, Draymond's got one more year in his deal, and he might be able to get additional years after
16:57that.
16:57But who knows?
16:58And so when you're at the end like that, and I actually think about this with Steph Curry, and you
17:03look at what he has down there in Atherton, and, you know, he and Aisha, and their four kids, they've
17:08got a pretty good life.
17:09Not only because of the money, but they've got the house, and, you know, the kids are playing volleyball and
17:14doing what they're doing.
17:14And so do you really want to, like, upheave that and go out there and chase another title and have
17:20your four kids have to move?
17:22It's tough.
17:23Yeah, either your four kids move or you leave for the year and miss it all while they stay behind.
17:29Mike Breen on the call, am I right?
17:31I got you.
17:31Hey, Willard and Dims, what's on your radar about will you be on air when they pick?
17:36Because I know we got Carter and Randy after.
17:40How's that read?
17:41Do you think you'll get it in on your show?
17:44I think, like, if this were Dims' calci, I feel like we got about a 35% chance of the
17:51pick happening before 6 o'clock.
17:53So it's unlikely.
17:55However, I'll tell you, there is some flexibility that has been built into our world for potentially the first ever
18:03post-show crossover.
18:05Oh, boy.
18:06Look at 6 o'clock.
18:07So, in other words, if we're getting real close, we might just stay.
18:12Right.
18:13We might just stay.
18:14Even if Carter and Randy don't want you to?
18:17There's no chance of that happening.
18:19I grant you.
18:20It's kind of like if they feel that way, Stiney, they're going to have to keep it in-house.
18:24Gotcha.
18:25Kind of like the Giants.
18:26Gotcha.
18:26I mean, if Chickering tries to give me the Devers with a finger wag, like, that's not happening, Carter Chickering.
18:33I don't care how big you are.
18:35Hey, Mark, let me ask you this.
18:36I mean, in this analogy, Grandy and Carter Chickering are Jonah Cox.
18:41Look at him.
18:42And we will shoo them.
18:44We will shoo them right out of laughing.
18:46It gets worse every time I watch it, and I can't stop watching it.
18:50It's brutal.
18:51Come on, Buster.
18:52Just give us something, man.
18:54A little discipline, man.
18:55But if he does something, it's like, you know.
18:58That is interesting.
18:58You say you're making Tony look bad.
19:01Right.
19:02It's like if Grandpa comes in and disciplines your kid, and the parents are like, yeah, you know, I was
19:08going to go ahead and let that slide.
19:09But Grandpa, who lives downstairs, is like, no, you're grounded.
19:12And Mom and Dad kind of shrug like, oh, Grandpa has spoken.
19:16But at every turn, you guys told me young Tony needed to learn how to do it on this level,
19:20and maybe he missed a moment after the game.
19:23And now Buster talked to him, and he'll go to the masses and say, we handled it.
19:28But, I mean, maybe he will.
19:32But I'm kind of with what Dibbs is saying.
19:36Not so much that, like, this is definitely going to pull Tony's legs out from underneath him.
19:40I'm just trying to figure out, and I'd love to be surprised, but what words right now are suddenly going
19:47to make any of these situations better?
19:49But maybe he's got a maneuver to make.
19:53So, but let me ask you about this.
19:55So, theoretically, if Posey says, you know, we're suspending him for two or three games, you guys would take that
20:02as cutting Vitello's legs off?
20:05A little bit.
20:06I would.
20:07I wouldn't.
20:07I would.
20:08Go ahead.
20:09I mean, I would to the extent that, like, Buster, I guess he is the one who could actually make
20:15that call because he's the president of the baseball ops.
20:17But you're not going to do that yesterday.
20:19You're going to wait until today.
20:20And I think that the whole thing about Tony Vitello, if he was really put off by the move, he
20:26should have handled it emotionally in the moment and at least confronted him.
20:30It doesn't mean you have to make it into a full-on fight.
20:33But if Tony V was really bothered by it, well, then react in the moment.
20:39See, I think maneuvers like that actually do take some thought and some collaboration.
20:45Right, right.
20:45Do you know what I mean?
20:46Like, I don't want overly reactive.
20:50I'm not saying I love the way Tony handled it or what he said, but that's not in the moment
20:58for us to know.
21:00So, if you're going to suspend a guy, like, if there's, like, a real, real problem, that's not for Tony
21:07to address right away to me.
21:08The other thing that, and I'm going to give him an out here just to give him an out is,
21:14you know, everybody was clearly focused on, you know, Devers and what he did.
21:19I mean, and I don't remember seeing Vitello in the dugout or Devers walking by him in that group, but,
21:28you know, he still had a game to finish managing.
21:31And maybe at that point he's like, just, that, Devers is hot, he's not, he's out of the game anyway,
21:38I got a guy on first and we got to try to win this game, I'll deal with that later.
21:43And then the media, in the meantime, and he, you know, downplays it a little bit because maybe he knows
21:48he's going to have to talk to Devers after that.
21:50I think that's all fair.
21:52I think what got everybody was when he started, like, making it sound like Rafi had a good point almost.
21:59No doubt about that.
21:59Like, Rafi's really good from first to third.
22:02It's like, what, what, okay.
22:04He just said he had lower legs soreness the night before.
22:07Okay, like, obviously you can get away with the whole Rafi is a competitor and did not want to come
22:15out.
22:16There's a reaction there and, you know, maybe that's not ideal, but, you know, he reacted.
22:22But starting to get into the whole, like, well, he's got leg soreness, he's really good from first to third.
22:27Oh, that cut me.
22:28Almost like he had a point.
22:30It's like, no, he didn't have a point.
22:31He's just being a jerk.
22:33All right, guys.
22:34We'll be listening.
22:35Well, we're looking forward to it.
22:36We'll have a new warrior hopefully tomorrow.
22:38Fingers crossed.
22:39We'll have golf lessons for Christy and I start tomorrow, people.
22:43So, yeah.
22:43Exciting.
22:44We'll preview that tomorrow.
22:45I'm ready.
22:46No, wait.
22:46Okay.
22:47Now, now, Gu.
22:49Yeah.
22:50First, are you coming?
22:52Did I hear you're not coming today?
22:54Yeah.
22:54Norm's got an appointment.
22:55I got to take it to.
22:56So, I put that out there.
22:58No jokes from Stani.
22:58Man, good thing I got in on Calci on that one.
23:00There you go.
23:01See, Dibs, that's what I heard.
23:02Cha-ching!
23:03What would the Calci be on tomorrow, Gu?
23:06Oh, there is no Calci.
23:07I'm there.
23:08I am there.
23:09It's done.
23:10I still like to know the numbers.
23:13Hey, Will, that is done.
23:15That's like Jimmy Butler's promising championship.
23:18Yeah.
23:18Stani, I just looked, and it's 62% no-show.
23:23This hurts.
23:23Cash me out one time.
23:25He actually got a show.
23:27Well, I'm there, baby.
23:28No, oddly, I'm looking at Calci, and as Gu said, he's definitely there.
23:32Oh, no doubt.
23:33Yes went down for some reason.
23:35I don't know.
23:36I don't know why the Marcus.
23:37Y'all need a brother of it.
23:40Down goes to yes.
23:41Hey, hey, she's waiting for you.
23:43I got clubs waiting for you.
23:45That's how I'm there.
23:46Like, that was going to be the, I'm there, baby.
23:49I got you.
23:50I got you, and the guy who's taking care of you is a phenomenal teacher.
23:54His name's Doug.
23:56I can't wait.
23:57Mill Valley golf, he's phenomenal.
23:59He's a great teacher.
24:00And shout out Christy Yamaguchi.
24:02I got a head.
24:03I got a head.
24:04I got a head.
24:06That's my girl.
24:07All right, gents.
24:07We'll bring it home, and let's see who they pick on 95.7 The Game.
