00:26Welcome to Slamboree.
00:289th May 1999 from St Louis Missouri. WCW have had a rough couple of weeks on Monday Nitro
00:34but the card they've put together here doesn't look too bad at all. Just over 20,000 fans
00:39are in the TWA Dome to see DDP defend his world title against Kevin Nash, we're also going
00:44to find out who's in charge of WCW when President Ric Flair battles Roddy Piper and we've got
00:49Sting vs Goldberg in a one on one match for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
00:54PPV buys are down significantly tonight, we've got 195,000 fans tuning in which is still
01:00a respectable number but it's over 50,000 less than Spring Stampede and nearly 200,000
01:05less than Super Brawl 9. WCW need to get a little goodwill back if they want those numbers to
01:10increase, so let's get started and we'll see how well they did.
01:13As always, thank you for being here and thank you for taking the time out of your day to
01:17watch another PPV review from the Reliving the War series.
01:24We open up with what should be an excellent tag team match, champions Rey Mysterio and Kidman
01:29vs Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit vs Raven and Perry Saturn. On Nitro, the horsemen have been
01:34the aggressors with Dean and Chris turning heel, Raven and Saturn have also switched it
01:38up to become babyfaces and everyone just loves Mysterio and Kidman so there's nothing new
01:42there. This is a triple threat tag match, first fall to a finish. Former flock teammates
01:47Kidman and Saturn work together to take out the horsemen first of all but Perry ends up
01:51clotheslining Kidman before dumping him out of the ring with a belly to belly suplex. That
01:55looked pretty rough, didn't it? A horseman sucks chant breaks out in the arena as Malenko
02:00goes to work on Saturn but Dean and Chris aren't affected by the audience as they hit a dropkick
02:04and suplex combo on Billy Kidman, good stuff here from the horsemen. Mysterio and Raven then
02:09get involved with Rey impressing with his flashy offense. The alliance between the babyfaces
02:14pretty much ends when Kidman and Benoit team up to take out Raven but Benoit goes after
02:18Kidman seconds later. There are no friends in this triple threat match and Kidman finds
02:23that out the hard way. Kidman fires back with a BK bomb but he narrowly misses a top rope
02:27splash, Raven has to break up a crossface attempt and Saturn takes the disguise with a frog splash
02:33to Benoit's back. The referees lost control here as guys begin coming in and out of the
02:38ring. Rey hits a fantastic moonsault after getting launched to the top turnbuckle, Saturn launches
02:43himself over the top rope to take out a bunch of his opponents. There's a diving headbutt
02:47right there from Chris Benoit while the other competitors were out of the ring. And from
02:51this point on, the horsemen dominate the match but the referee just allowing anyone to get
02:55in the ring whenever they please. The horsemen even make light of this when Malenko makes
02:59a legal tag, no one really cares. Billy Kidman firing up gets the crowd back into the match
03:05but Saturn's right there to put a stop to any kind of momentum. Benoit then takes advantage
03:09with a few German suplexes and look, someone was finally able to powerbomb Billy Kidman,
03:14never thought I'd say it but there you go. Kidman performs a dropkick before we go back to how
03:18we started with Billy and Saturn working together. We then get the tag champs and crowd favourites
03:23getting in a ton of offence with Rey pulling off a few assisted hurricanranas but when he tries to
03:27do this on Perry Saturn he ends up getting powerbombed pretty hard and Kidman has to pick up the slack.
03:33Our match ends when Arn Anderson gets involved and Saturn takes a spinebuster. Fans want to boo the horsemen,
03:38but they also can't help cheering for AA. We then go back to 1997 when we see someone wearing a
03:44sting
03:44mask and this guy stops Kidman from hitting the shooting star press. This allows Raven to hit
03:49Billy with a drape and even flow DDT. The referee isn't sure if he should check on Saturn who's in
03:54the Texas Cloverleaf but he decides instead to count Kidman's shoulders to the mat and we have
03:58new tag team champions. Raven and Saturn win the slamboree opening match. The guy who helped Raven and
04:04Saturn, it was Chris Kenyon. Kenyon's back in WCW and clearly he's still aligned with Raven.
04:16NWO black and white leader Stevie Ray took on Conan next, we've got minimal storyline heading into this
04:21one with the NWO singling out K-Dog for absolutely no reason at all and we even had Kevin Nash
04:26coming
04:26out to help Conan last week so it's all terribly basic here. Kevin Nash is still in the red and
04:31black
04:32wolf pack as is Scottie Steiner and Hulk Hogan but even Steiner and Nash have shared some words
04:36recently and no one really knows what's going on, it's an absolute mess. This match wasn't very good
04:41either and that's because it was a typical NWO B team affair with Horace and Vincent helping Stevie
04:46out from bell to bell, when Conan got the upper hand the NWO guys were right there to put K
04:50-Dog in his
04:51place so Conan's friend Rey Mysterio ended up coming out to help even the odds. After taking care of
04:56Horace and Vincent, Rey performed a seated senton on Stevie Ray, Conan then rolls Stevie up and K-Dog
05:02picks up a win. The match was incredibly short, there was practically no build up, the payoff wasn't
05:07good and it felt more like a waste of time. Conan and Stevie Ray are great wrestlers, it's a shame
05:12the WCW riding team couldn't come up with something a bit better. Backstage, DDP and Bam Bam Bigelow have
05:17a little meeting that was instigated by the world champion. We don't know what's being said here but
05:22Mike tonight reminds everyone that these two have something in common, they're both from the Jersey
05:26Shore area. Bigelow then comes out for his hardcore match against Brian Nobbs and again, there's no
05:32real reason for these guys to fight each other. Basically a few guys have been arguing about who
05:36the king of hardcore really is, with Hack, Raven and Bam Bam Bigelow all making claims that they're
05:42the best when it comes to extreme wrestling. Brian Nobbs just decided to show up again on Nitro and he
05:48won the right to face Bigelow the night at Slamboree, so whoever wins this match will be the undisputed
05:53king of hardcore, or something. It's all trash can and tray shots at the beginning of the match,
05:58nothing groundbreaking at all. Bigelow performs his diving headbutt and Brian replies with a chair
06:03shot to the back, the two head to the outside where they fight at the ring steps and they use
06:07trash can lids and bacon trays to do more damage. It is fun watching these guys throw weapons at each
06:12other, not gonna lie, but you can tell there's no direction here, I think they both know how the match
06:17is gonna end and that's about it. Nobbs jumps into the bounciest piece of wood I've ever seen in
06:22my life before going back to trash can shots, Bam Bam seemingly had enough and he cracks the nasty
06:27boy's skull in half with a steel chair, the two head up the ramp and straight to the WCW.com
06:32area
06:32where a monitor falls on Brian's head, they then begin fighting in the curtained off part of the arena
06:37and I never thought showing this side of the curtain was a good idea. The arena looked great up until
06:42this point but now we can see that half the venue was actually tapered off and it kinda kills the
06:47illusion a bit. Brian Nobbs uses a ladder to great effect before setting Bam Bam up on a merch table,
06:52the payoff looks pretty terrible when Brian Nobbs jumps and even the commentators say it looked like crap,
06:57so Bam Bam gets up, he suplexes Nobbs through the table and Bam Bam wins this hardcore match.
07:02Bigelow's the king of hardcore, Tony Schiavone says this was a really remarkable match and I disagree.
07:14Rick Steiner isn't happy with Booker T getting help from Stevie Ray even though Booker hasn't been
07:19asking for any kind of help and this is our story behind Booker T vs Rick Steiner at Slamboree,
07:24don't worry, it will make sense later on. Booker's putting his TV title up for grabs in this one on
07:29one
07:30match and you know, a Booker vs Stevie Ray match would have made way more sense and it would have
07:34been way more interesting. The Conant match should have been scrapped in favour of giving us a long
07:39battle between the brothers of hardham heat but no, that's asking too much at this point. The two
07:44shove each other around at the opening bell and Steiner strikes first with an overhead belly to belly
07:48followed by two Steiner lines. Booker's forced to take a timeout and when the match resumes, Booker's
07:53finally able to go on offence with a hook kick right to Rick Steiner's neck. The challenger then has a
07:58rough fall when Booker lands a spinning back kick, Rick's now forced to take a short timeout before
08:03the two go at it again, Booker performs a body slam followed by a back elbow and there we go,
08:08a chinlock at Slamboree 99. Rick decides to do a little damage on the outside before applying a
08:13chinlock of his own, Steiner shows he's a chinlock pro when he also incorporates the bottom rope into
08:18the move, making it one of the most deadliest of deadly chinlocks known to man. Booker's been stunned
08:23pretty badly here and Rick gets vicious in the corner, though the TV champ is able to get an opening
08:27and he
08:28delivers a suplex to the challenger. It must be said, the crowd is absolutely dead for this match and I
08:33too kinda want the show to move on to its next bout. This has been quite slow and Booker in
08:38particular is
08:38much better when working a faster paced match. Case in point, there's chinlock number two from Rick,
08:44the crowd aren't even paying attention anymore and when Booker clocks Rick with a forearm there's still
08:48no reaction. Finally, an axe kick followed by a spinaroonie bringing the crowd back into it. Booker performs a
08:54spinebuster followed by the heat seeker but then Big Papa Pump shows up and Scottie Steiner helps his
08:59brother. Booker gets distracted but he does not lose the match, instead he's able to throw Rick into
09:04Scott and Rick then takes a Harlem sidekick. Surprisingly though, Rick kicks out of the follow up cover.
09:10Again, Scott gets involved by tripping Booker T up, this leads to Rick performing a Steiner Bulldog
09:15and just like that we have a new TV champion. Are the Steiner brothers back together? Well,
09:20we don't know. Rick goes backstage looking for his brother afterwards and he tells Buff Bagwell that
09:25Scott just screwed around during his match. Buff says he hasn't seen Scott around and Rick
09:29wishes Buff good luck for his match against Scott later on. You can see this coming a mile off,
09:34can't you? Watch your back, Buff Daddy.
09:42Referee Charles Robinson, Lil Nage himself, is gonna face the Macho Man Randy Savage's new valet
09:47gorgeous George next at Slamboree. If George wins then Randy Savage gets reinstated and he's allowed
09:53to compete in WCW on a full time basis. Look at Charles Robinson, styling and profiling like his
09:59hero Ric Flair. I think everyone knows this but Ric Flair really was Robinson's hero,
10:05Charles is a die hard Ric Flair fan and I'm sure he was having the time of his life right
10:09here.
10:10Ric Flair grabs a microphone and amongst a sea of booze, he tells Medusa he's always wanted her to ride
10:15Space Mountain. Miss Madness can come along too if she likes, but Lil Nage is gonna take care of
10:20gorgeous George. Charge says he's gonna put George in the figure 4 and afterwards George is gonna ride
10:26the little space mountain but Savage says that's not gonna happen. Macho thinks his valet is gonna
10:31kick Lil Nage's ass tonight at Slamboree. The bell rings, the two circle the ring, and what follows
10:37is a ton of time wasting though it's some of the most entertaining time wasting you'll ever see in your
10:42life.
10:42Charles Robinson's in full Flair mode and even Ric himself gets a kick out of Robinson's mannerisms,
10:48he's trying his best, god love him. George avoids a lockup and Robinson gets frustrated,
10:53George then applies a wrist lock while charge was busy with Randy Savage, and the two competitors
10:57then trade multiple wrist locks and hammer locks. I'm seeing more actual wrestling here than what I
11:02would in a dated Flair match and that's no exaggeration. Look, we even get a full Nelson from
11:08George followed by a snapmare. The fans go crazy, as does Lil Nage, so George pushes Charles into
11:14Rick and again the crowd pops. It's a complete opposite reaction when compared to Booker T vs Rick
11:20Steiner. Ric Flair and Macho then get in the ring for a stare down, Rick gets out and he hands
11:24Robinson
11:25in a steel chair, Miss Madness tries to take the chair away but she ends up taking a cheap shot
11:30followed
11:30by a body slam from Lil Nage. Charge then argues with Johnny Boone in the ring and the referee shoves
11:35Robinson
11:36down to the mat, all the while gorgeous George tends to miss madness on the outside. The match
11:41proceeds with Robinson choking George on the ring ropes and on the mat, George fires back with a
11:45few knife edge chops in the corner and my god, Robinson goes up and over the top turnbuckle just
11:51like Ric Flair and he also gets launched off the top rope in typical Flair fashion. I was just wondering
11:56if Charles was going to do the Flair flop and yeah there it is after a clothesline, gotta give it
12:01to
12:01both of these guys right here, it's fantastic stuff. Asia tries to get involved but Medusa stops her from
12:07doing any damage. As Flair and Medusa argue on the outside, Charge tries to apply a knee bar submission
12:12but George keeps pushing him away. George then takes a knee breaker that did look quite painful and now
12:18it's time to end it once and for all. Charge locks in the figure 4 and I am so impressed
12:23with how good
12:23charge has been tonight. Unfortunately though the move gets reversed and Ric Flair has to intervene,
12:28so here comes the macho man to get Ric out of the ring and to also give Lil' Nate a
12:32low blow.
12:33Savage puts Charge in position for the elbow drop and George leaps off the second rope with the move
12:38that's going to score a pinfall victory tonight at Slamboree. George defeats Robinson in a match that
12:43surely surpassed everyone's expectations and yeah, I had fun with this one. It was a comedy match,
12:49the bar was very low but fair dues to both Charles and Gorgeous George, I'm sure they were both very
12:54happy with how this turned out. Randy Savage has been reinstated and it's only a matter of time
12:59before macho goes for the World Heavyweight Championship. Next up, Scottie Steiner defends
13:06his US title against Buff Bagwell. Bagwell turned babyface about a month ago and he's been getting
13:11some good crowd support. Steiner meanwhile has been splitting his focus a little between both Buff Daddy
13:16and Diamond Dallas Page. Bagwell called Buff nothing more than a male stripper, a guy no one wanted in
13:21the original NWO, but Buff has a chance to shut Scottie up while also winning his first singles
13:26championship. Bagwell doesn't even give Scott a chance to remove his US title as he goes in for the
13:31kill, a swinging neckbreaker puts the champ down and Scott replies with not one but two low blows,
13:36that'll teach you for trying to pull a fast one on Big Poppa Pump. In the crowd boo Steiner as
13:40he slams
13:41Bagwell into the corner. We go to the outside where Steiner calls a fan a piece of shit and all
13:46the
13:46fan can do is smile at Big Poppa Pump, yeah you better smile. Scott continues to talk trash to fans
13:51while taking a break every now and then to do some damage to his opponent. Back in the ring, Bagwell
13:55gets hung up in a tree of woe and Scott chokes his opponent out as Buff's chances of winning this
14:00thing get less and less likely. Scott puts a target on Bagwell's neck, remembering that his old friend
14:05had some pretty serious neck issues not too long ago and we also see some power moves from Scott
14:10including a double underhook powerbomb and a belly to belly suplex. Big Poppa Pump decides he's had
14:15enough, he grabs a steel chair for the kill shot but Buff whacks the chair into Scottie's face and
14:20Bagwell's in with a chance. A Buff chant breaks out as Bagwell fires up on the US champ and the
14:25crowd pops
14:26for a few dropkicks from Buff Daddy but the referee gets taken out when Scott pulls him in for a
14:30clothesline.
14:31Rick Steiner then gets in the ring and he tells Buff to go up for the blockbuster
14:35and when Bagwell turns his back on the dogface gremlin, he ends up taking a chair shot. The
14:40Steiner brothers are back on good terms it seems and we've now got a heel Rick Steiner in WCW.
14:46Rick wakes the referee up as Scott applies the Steiner recliner and Scott successfully retains his US
14:51championship. The crowd don't like it, the commentators don't like it but it's going to be
14:56interesting seeing the Steiner brothers together again if WCW don't shitcan the reunion after just a
15:01few weeks. Bagwell gets beaten up after the bell, the Steiners celebrate while Buffs let out in the
15:06middle of the ring, and while the match itself was nothing special, the ending does make me
15:10interested in seeing where this goes tomorrow night on Nitro.
15:18Roddy Piper takes on President Ric Flair next, the winner of this one will take control of WCW on a
15:23full
15:23time basis. Piper recently had Ric Flair committed to a mental institution, saying the nature boy was a danger to
15:29himself, the folks he works with and WCW as a whole, and Piper was also able to goad Rick into
15:34having
15:35this match where Flair could easily lose his position as WCW President. Throughout this presidency,
15:40Ric Flair has turned heel, I know, it's a common reoccurrence in WCW nowadays, and seeing as Piper
15:46likes to show up and disappear again quite a lot in WCW, it's really hard for fans to truly get
15:51behind
15:52one competitor over the other. It's this lack of forward thinking and lack of foresight that's been hurting
15:57WCW in the Monday Night War recently. Nonetheless, we've got two bonafide legends competing in the
16:02ring tonight and fans in St. Louis aren't going to care much about tomorrow or the week after.
16:06Ric calls Lil Natch out to referee the match, Flair fires Johnny Boone on the spot and Johnny looks to
16:11Piper for answers. Boone has no choice though, he must leave the ring. Ric trash talks Piper and this
16:17leads to Piper smacking Ric in the face, and after taking a few chops in the corner and a back
16:21body drop,
16:22the Nature Boy decides it's time to go. Ric wants no part of Roddy Piper. Double A reminds Flair that
16:28this match is for control of WCW, so Ric slowly makes his way back to the ring and the match
16:32resumes
16:33with Piper spitting at Ric and totally missing his target. Good shot Roddy. The two lock up,
16:38Flair takes more chops and Roddy throws a ton of punches that would make Muhammad Ali blush.
16:43One Flair flop later and we're now on the outside where, you guessed it, more chops ensue. Dirty tactics
16:48are on top as Piper pokes Flair in the eyes and the Nature Boy replies with a low blow.
16:53Charles Robinson then tells Piper off for being a bad boy and Ric then decides to throw Piper
16:57out of the ring where Arn Anderson gets in a few cheap shots. We get more chops, more punches,
17:03more chops… oh here comes Asia and Roddy takes another low blow but the hot rod kicks out of the
17:09follow up cover and we're right back to punches from Flair, chops from Piper, there's another backdrop
17:14from Roddy right there and like, what the fuck is this? We're well over half way through the match
17:19and we've had two backdrops, punches, chops, low blows and eye pokes. You can certainly respect these
17:24guys for their pro wrestling pedigree and how they helped shape the wrestling industry but this is
17:30terrible, absolutely terrible and what's worse, this is the main story heading into Slamboree. This was
17:36built up even more than the work title match. We go to the outside briefly where the ring post and
17:41guardrail gets utilized, at least it's something different. Back inside the ring, the two competitors
17:46bump into each other and Ric's first to get up, the nature boy then starts working over the leg
17:50while getting some assistance from Arn Anderson and thank god Flair applies the figure 4. Piper
17:55doesn't give up, instead he reverses Flair's finisher and so Ric sends Piper back to the outside,
18:00this time Roddy's able to take care of Arn Anderson and I'm genuinely surprised at this sunset flip
18:05right here, well done Piper. I'm not surprised that Flair's pasty ass getting exposed immediately
18:09afterwards though. Piper covers Flair multiple times but Charles gets conveniently distracted by the
18:15enforcer, so Piper throws Ric off the top rope and it's now Flair getting locked in the figure 4.
18:21Our match ends when Arn Anderson interferes to break up the hold, Roddy puts Double A in a sleeper hold
18:26and when Flair tries to intervene, he too gets put in a sleeper. Asia breaks up the sleeper on Flair
18:31and
18:31for her trouble, she gets a kiss and she too gets put to sleep and when Charles Robinson puts his
18:36hand on
18:37Piper, Lil Neach ends up getting punched in the face. Flair hits Piper with a foreign object that we
18:42don't actually see, but whatever it was, it was enough to knock Piper out and Flair wins via pinfall.
18:47Eric Bischoff then walks down to the ring, we haven't seen Eric inside a wrestling arena since he helped
18:52Hogan back to the locker room at Spring Stampede, and Bischoff says Piper's actually the winner of
18:57this match, everyone saw Flair cheat and so Roddy gets awarded the victory tonight. Thing is, Bischoff has no
19:03par, remember, he lost to Ric Flair and he gave up any authority he has in the company, so this
19:09right
19:09here makes absolutely no sense at all. Piper fires Ric Flair while the nature boy screams at a few kids
19:15sitting at the front row, and Piper then thanks Eric Bischoff for doing the right thing, who would've
19:20thought it. A bad match here at Slamboree though, you see Flair and Piper on the card and you get
19:25these
19:25ideas in your head of how the match is gonna be, but this wasn't a good performance from either man,
19:30and what's even more shocking, these two are going to have another PPV match in WCW very very soon.
19:41Like other matches on this card, Sting vs Goldberg has absolutely no build up. The very small amount
19:46of heat we've got here was a quick scuffle on Nitro this past week, but the commentators are
19:51building this up as the best vs the best, the ultimate babyface clash in world championship wrestling.
19:56Just two dudes who want to win a wrestling match, that's what we've got here and things don't
20:01start too well when this happens. The two go at it again and Goldberg performs his signature power
20:06slam before dumping the stinger out of the ring. The icon takes his sweet time before getting back
20:10inside the ropes but this time Sting takes control with a dropkick and it's Goldberg now getting dumped
20:15out of the ring. The crowd's kinda 50-50 here as Goldberg slowly makes his way back inside. He doesn't
20:21give a clean break at the ropes and Sting falls victim to a fireman's carry followed by an arm bar
20:25submission. The stinger makes it to the ropes and Goldberg releases the hold, and this back and
20:29forth match continues with Sting performing a face buster followed by a dropkick to the knee. Goldberg's
20:34wearing a knee brace tonight and Sting's gonna try and zone in a little on the body part, but his
20:39attempt at a boston crab fails and he decides to get a little more vicious with a few kicks. Sting
20:43changes
20:44gameplan, he suplexes Goldberg and Billy Boy no-sails it, Goldberg fires back with his single arm suplex
20:49and we also see a swinging neck breaker, although I'm not sure Sting knew which way to fall here.
20:54But Sting does know when to move when Goldberg tries to spear him and we see a diving clothesline
20:59from the icon. Sting's feeling it, he lines up a stinger splash and… oh, oh, that was good.
21:05This is the end of our match ladies and gents because look who's back. His excellency Bret
21:10Hart has returned to WCW and he's here to beat the crap out of Goldberg with a steel chair.
21:15Bret hits Goldberg on the head and he goes after Goldberg's knee too before leaving the ring,
21:19and here comes Rick and Scott Steiner to feast on the carcasses of these two fallen WCW babyfaces.
21:25Rick and Scott beat Sting and Goldberg up pretty badly, it's clear they want to make a statement
21:29tonight and going after these two is a great way to reestablish themselves, but the crowd aren't
21:34happy with how all this turned out. Good to see Bret back, good to see the Steiners being so dominant,
21:39fans were robbed of a clean finish though and while this is standard fare on Nitro,
21:43you expect more on a pay per view show.
21:49Our main event features Kevin Nash getting a world title shot against Diamond Dallas Page.
21:54Nash got this opportunity through some wheeling and dealing with Ric Flair but at that point in
21:58time Nash was a heel or a tweener at least, and since then it appears that Nash has gone completely
22:04babyface but honestly, who knows at this point, it can all change again next week.
22:08DDP lost the belt on an episode of Nitro and won it back again the same night,
22:13he's been a two-time WCW champion within the space of one month, so it's been quite an interesting couple
22:18of weeks for Dallas Page. Nash said he wants to win this for Hogan, he wants to get revenge for
22:23Page
22:24injuring Hollywood at Spring Stampede, so let's see if he can get the job done.
22:38DDP tells Nash he's going to feel the bang while Big Sexy tells his opponent to suck it, great start.
22:43Page tries to end it immediately with a diamond cutter but Nash avoids it and Dallas gets sent to
22:48the outside. Page then ducks a few haymakers from Big Kev but he doesn't avoid a knee strike,
22:53and when Dallas starts acting up on the apron Nash runs into him with another knee strike,
22:57DDP really needs to get his act together. Page gets dropped on the guardrail before Nash brings
23:02it back in the ring for even more knee strikes, careful there big man, and Nash feels it's necessary
23:07to tidy up his eyebrows a little before lining up DDP for a back elbow, Big Kev's super confident
23:12tonight, no doubt about it. DDP avoids snake eyes and Nash takes a few punches to the face,
23:17Kev has to shove Dallas away when the champ goes up for some mounted punches but Page gets in a
23:21low
23:21blow and the referee doesn't say a thing, I think. Page beats his opponent to the mat before cutting
23:26off a turnbuckle pad, while Nick Patrick investigates, Page hits Nash with a microphone but this isn't
23:32enough to end the match. Dallas argues with the referee and he took his eye off Nash for just a
23:36moment and this turns out to be a costly mistake. Dallas gets his head rocked off that exposed
23:45turnbuckle, both men struggle to get to their feet afterwards, we get a fistfight between champion
23:49and challenger and Dallas gets the better of Big Kev. Nash gets sent to the outside and Dallas makes
23:54fun of Big Sexy before lining up a baseball slide, Page manages to knock Nash down and on the outside
24:00Dallas takes Kev out with a diamond cutter. Page then covers Kev on the outside and Patrick reminds the
24:06champ that this isn't a false count anywhere match, of course Page really knew this wasn't a false
24:10count anywhere match but it's still a spot that makes the champ look a bit dumb. Nash gets tossed
24:15into the ring, Page makes the cover while using the ropes and Kev kicks out, this isn't going well for
24:21Dallas at all. DDP hits a few low elbow drops and Page is way too busy playing up to the
24:27audience,
24:27he's getting more and more arrogant as the match goes on, he starts working over the leg and he begins
24:32utilizing the ring post to his advantage and Dallas wants to injure Nash right here just like he did
24:37to Hogan at Spring Stampede but Kev pushes Dallas away. Back in the ring, DDP gets more arrogant as
24:42he punches and kicks his opponent, Dallas wants Nash to stand up to take more punishment so Big Sexy
24:48obliges and Kev starts fighting back. DDP takes a running knee followed by a corner clothesline,
24:53Nash then hits snake eyes on the exposed turnbuckle and after hitting the big boot, Big Sexy signals for
24:59the jackknife, we could be seeing a new world champion here. DDP takes Nash's finisher but here
25:04comes Randy Savage to once again give DDP the assist, this has been happening frequently on Nitro
25:09and it makes no sense seeing his macho man's a babyface in the gorgeous George storyline yet he's
25:15acting like a heel by helping DDP. The ref calls for a DQ as Macho hits Nash with the world
25:20championship
25:20belt and then Eric Bischoff walks back down along with Double D Doug Dillinger. Bischoff tells Randy to
25:26get away from the ring before instructing Nick Patrick to restart the match, Eric says he doesn't care
25:30what Ted Turner or Harvey Schiller says, this match must continue. So we go back to the ring where DDP
25:36takes advantage once again and instead of firing on all cylinders, things get slowed way down with
25:42both men trading sleeper holds. Page gets out with a jawbreaker before going out to grab a chair,
25:47but Dallas ends up hitting himself when the chair bounces off the top rope. Page makes up for his mistake
25:52by hitting a low blow, but Nash kicks out at two and our match ends with Nash performing a big
25:57boot and
25:57Dallas takes another shot with that chair. The big man delivers his jackknife powerbomb and Kevin Nash
26:03becomes a two-time WCW world heavyweight champion. As far as Kevin Nash matches go, this wasn't bad,
26:09but generally speaking it wasn't a great nor memorable main event. I kinda feel bad for DDP too because he
26:15didn't get a great run with that world heavyweight championship, but there you have it, DDP does the
26:20JOB at the PPV named Slamboree. Not a good show here from WCW at all and I had real high
26:29hopes when
26:30looking at the card on paper. The tag team opener had no control, Rick Steiner vs Booker T almost sent
26:35the crowd to sleep, Piper vs Flair barely passed as a wrestling match and the world title match really
26:40isn't worth revisiting. I'm going into these post spring stampede WCW shows with a lot of hope,
26:46everyone says there's no good WCW PPVs left and I really want to prove that statement wrong as we
26:52move forward, but I can't say Slamboree 99's a good event and so this one unfortunately does not
26:58come recommended. Honestly, Charles Robinson was probably the most entertaining thing about this
27:02event. Still, thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed another WCW PPV review in the Reliving
27:08War series. There's no Nitro next week due to the NBA playoffs so the next episode of Reliving
27:13the War will feature an unopposed episode of Raw. Thank you so so much for watching guys and please, take
27:18care.
27:39We'll see you next time.
27:48Bye.
