00:40Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:42We begin this morning with something you don't see often.
00:45A big bipartisan vote in Washington on an issue hitting millions of Americans right in the wallet.
00:51The Senate on Monday overwhelmingly approved the 21st Century Road to Housing Act,
00:56a sweeping package designed to increase the nation's housing supply and make home ownership more affordable.
01:02The bill would limit some large investors' ability to buy up homes, cut federal red tape for new construction,
01:09expand access to manufactured housing, and make mortgages affordable.
01:14Lawmakers from both parties say the goal is simple, build more homes and bring down costs.
01:19The push comes as many communities continue to struggle with high home prices, rising rents, and a shortage of available
01:26housing.
01:27South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, one of the bill's lead backers, called it years of work to lower costs,
01:34expand housing supply, cut red tape, protect taxpayers, and help more Americans achieve the dream of homeownership.
01:42The measure now heads to the House, where lawmakers will decide whether to send it to President Trump's desk.
01:48That could happen as early as today.
01:50President Trump's new acting director of national intelligence is moving quickly to reshape the agency.
01:57Just days after taking over the office of the director of national intelligence,
02:01Bill Pulte has begun firing employees as part of a broader downsizing effort.
02:06Straight Arrow first reported last week that Pulte visited ODNI headquarters before his official start date
02:13to assess the agency's operations and staffing.
02:16When announcing the appointment, Trump said he wanted Pulte to, quote,
02:20execute the immediate and needed downsizing of the office.
02:23One source told CNN that the National Counterterrorism Center
02:27and the National Counterintelligence and Security Center are expected to be among the hardest hit.
02:32A source familiar with the process told multiple news outlets that, quote,
02:36that deep state firings have begun.
02:39Pulte officially took over Friday despite concerns from lawmakers in both parties
02:44about his lack of intelligence experience.
02:46His role may be temporary.
02:48Trump has nominated Jay Clayton to lead the agency permanently,
02:51but put that nomination on hold last week during a separate standoff with Congress.
02:57Before joining the intelligence community,
02:59Pulte served as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
03:03The controversy surrounding President Trump's reflecting pool renovation
03:07is now drawing another response, increased security.
03:11National Guard members and U.S. Park Police are now patrolling the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool
03:16as questions continue to swirl around the troubled project.
03:20You may remember the pool was renovated to give it an American flag blue appearance
03:25ahead of this year's 250th anniversary celebrations.
03:28But the project has been plagued by problems.
03:31Algae turned the water green, parts of the new liner began peeling,
03:35and crews have been forced to use chemicals and ozone nanobubbles in an effort to control the damage.
03:41The White House says additional repairs are still being evaluated,
03:44and the pool may need to be drained again.
03:47Trump has blamed vandals, claiming someone cut a 350-foot slit in the liner
03:52and may have added fertilizer to the water.
03:54So far, neither the White House nor the president has publicly released evidence to support those claims.
04:00However, U.S. Park Police say five people have been arrested in connection with the vandalism at the site.
04:06And the fight is now spilling into the media.
04:09Trump is threatening legal action against ABC News over what he calls false reporting on the project's costs and repairs.
04:17One of the biggest unanswered mysteries of the year may have just taken a darker turn.
04:22Multiple news outlets are now reporting on a second ransom note that somebody sent days after the disappearance of Nancy
04:29Guthrie,
04:30the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie.
04:32It claimed the 84-year-old died shortly after she was abducted and was buried somewhere in nature.
04:39It also said her death was unintentional.
04:41The note was reportedly sent to media outlets in Arizona, and it was one of only two messages investigators have
04:48deemed potentially credible.
04:50Both believed to be sent from the same person or group from the same digital IP address.
04:56Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home back on February 1st.
05:01Early ransom demand sought millions in cryptocurrency, but this second message reportedly asked for no money.
05:07Despite months of searching and thousands of tips, searchers have never found Guthrie.
05:13Investigators are still trying to identify the masked man captured on doorbell video outside her home the night she disappeared
05:20in Tucson.
05:21Less than 15 months after opening with the presidential tour and plenty of fanfare, Florida's alligator Alcatraz is closing.
05:29CBS News reports state officials have ordered the full demobilization of the controversial immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades,
05:38with contractors told to begin dismantling the site this week.
05:41The government transferred out the final detainees last week.
05:45Officials initially cited hurricane season concerns, but CBS reports the closure had been planned as part of a broader shutdown
05:53effort.
05:53The facility was championed by President Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis as a model for immigration enforcement
06:00and processed more than 20,000 detainees since opening last July.
06:04But it also faced criticism from immigration advocates and human rights groups over conditions inside,
06:11while the cost of operating the facility reportedly ballooned to about $1.2 billion.
06:16Once the teardown is complete, the site is expected to return to its previous use as a small airport and
06:23pilot training facility.
06:24Finally this morning, another chapter in the career of soccer's biggest star.
06:30Argentina's Lionel Messi is now the all-time leading goal scorer in men's World Cup history.
06:36Messi scored twice as Argentina beat Austria 2-0 in Arlington, Texas.
06:40His first goal came in the 38th minute when he took a pass from Facundo Medina and buried a left
06:47-footed shot into the net.
06:49The crowd erupted as teammates swarmed the 39-year-old star.
06:52Messi entered the match tied with Germany's Miroslav Klose for the World Cup record.
06:57By the final whistle, he stood alone.
06:59He now has 18 career World Cup goals, the most ever in the men's tournament, and he's still adding to
07:05that total.
07:06Messi is 39 years old, playing in his sixth World Cup, and now he's all alone as the tournament's greatest
07:13scorer.
07:14What an accomplishment.
07:15All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
07:17This morning, voters head to the polls in Maryland, New York, South Carolina, and Utah in a slate of state
07:23and local elections.
07:24Later, Secretary of State Marco Rubio begins a three-country trip to the Gulf, focused on Iran, the Strait of
07:30Hormuz, and regional security.
07:32President Trump travels to Pennsylvania today, where he's expected to speak at a Mack Trucks facility this afternoon.
