A Huddersfield community is looking forward to a brighter future after crime was slashed and services boosted in a major programme to improve life there.

00:01As of spring 2026, the ambitious Unity Shape Up Clear Hold Build project has resulted in an overall 63%
00:10reduction in antisocial behaviour in the Ashbrow area of Huddersfield and a 46% reduction in the area's crime severity
00:19score.
00:20Overall crime in May 2026 was also down by 7% compared to the same time last year, with reports
00:26also showing reductions have stabilised.
00:29Kirkley's police and partners have been encouraged by the figures produced by the project.
00:34Since launching the scheme in November 2024, police have carried out 20 days of action, made hundreds of arrests and
00:42seized over 600 cannabis plants,
00:45as well as removing a further £8,000 worth of Class A and B drugs off the streets.
00:51Over £65,000 worth of illegal cigarette and tobacco products were also recovered in just one day.
00:57Dedicated work has also seen an improvement in services and community life, including a flourishing youth hub which provides activities
01:05for children from a range of age groups and regularly young people's intervention programmes.
01:10A total of £50,000 of Sports England funding was also secured to boost engagement and exercise activity as part
01:18of Move More Ashbrow.
01:20Other work has included programmes to assist with poverty and debt, a food bank and a community drop-in to
01:26provide support and advice.
