00:00if we don't play that people revolt our fans are i'm not saying our fans are revolting or anything
00:05like that well i would say they're gonna be definitive as in respect of what i think um
00:18but i think definitive in respect of videos that changed or singles usually accompanied by video
00:27that just changed the sort of fares of cradle of filth and how we were viewed so it would start
00:32quite late it would miss out the first four records even though they've got belters on them
00:36and obviously people say oh no but if i didn't have forest whispered my name you know i wouldn't
00:40have been into the band but i would said from the cradle to enslave which was like five years
00:45only five years but four five albums later four albums later three albums and a long ep it was
00:52our first video we decided to do it full tilt feel full ball with um alex shandon who then went
01:01on to
01:01uh because we decided it was so good uh and so filmic and cinematic that we decided we could
01:08extend this and turn it into a movie which we did with cradle of fear under his hellmanship too
01:15and um yeah i think it was because it was pretty full-on two versions which in europe i mean
01:23i
01:23remember being in europe on the press trip for midian and they were playing it in a bar like the
01:28full
01:29you know tits out full ball version um but yeah i think that got the band noticed a bit more
01:37because
01:37everybody was doing videos and we just we tried to do one during the dusk period and it was like
01:42we were
01:43taken to birmingham like um youth it was a youth offenders it was a drama place that somebody ran
01:49but it was pathetic it was like he obviously said to his students for this one day we're gonna be
01:55doing a cradle of filth video so just come up with whatever and obviously all these kids were just like
02:00and they just decided to do something at the last minute it was awful we buried that so yeah it
02:05wasn't
02:05until five years after our first album came out that we actually did anything uh visual like that i would
02:11say her ghost in the fold which is also directed by alex shandon who did cradle of fear as full
02:16mentioned um and this is a bit more mtv friendly i think that was probably the um the mandate for
02:23it
02:23make sure it's it's not as full-on as your first one if you want to get if you want
02:28to live
02:29um and it was kind of set around the idea of the judder man and um uh sort of bavarian
02:36folk tales and
02:37um impressionism you know cabinet dr caligari that sort of thing um lots of cut out trees and lots of
02:45snow i remember big petrol snow for about the whole afternoon um and that was around the same time i
02:52went
02:52on never mind the buzzcocks and then they aired that as well so that was quite a big turning point
02:58for us and uh yeah we condemned as with a few to pay that song to the end of eternity
03:03because of that
03:05so the third pick would be babylon ad so glad for the madness which was done by the infamous whiz
03:12and was based loosely on salo's um 120 days of sodom or the movie salo sorry and um yeah he
03:23at one point getting the video i said i turned around to him and said i know i've been in
03:28the
03:28studio a long time we're doing damnation in a day it was on sony's money so instead of spunky on
03:35sports cars and stuff which kind of wanted to we we we we went to we hired this um american
03:43producer
03:44uh uh who helped us write create like this sort of um big symphonic parts of the record
03:50and so we went to budapest and filmed with the their uh movie and radio choir 140 pieces amazing
03:58a fucking amazing week in budapest and um yeah so really burnt out from that and then we were
04:05doing a video like the day before i flew out to india and uh i was literally they had to
04:10give me
04:10vodka because i was just starting to get shaken not from alcohol but i was just worn out and i
04:17just
04:17remember like we were sitting backstage at this place and we were filming it in this really cold
04:21old school beginning of december and um we were sitting like huddled around these heaters and that
04:27and i remember whiz just saying and i said no he showed me some rushes and i said are you
04:34sure these
04:34kids are over age it's because in the film they're supposed to be very young and some of these
04:40people were looking a bit borderline and also he really wanted to rep replicate the scene in the
04:45movie where people eat shit literally eat shit and it is in it but i i said i'm all for
04:55this
04:57but there's going to be a line drawn here and he was very he really wanted to push the video
05:02a little
05:02bit further it's a great video and i was actually in a funny enough strange story as well i was
05:08in a
05:08mini garage buying a mini for my wife uh i think it was probably february at that point and uh
05:16it was
05:16on they were doing the top 40 rundown midweek big week rundown i think where they did it wednesday
05:23and uh they it came on it was like it was a number 27 at the time in the charts
05:28and they had to play
05:29the whole lot and it was about seven and a half minutes long and uh i just remember we were
05:34sitting
05:34and waiting for you know when you go to a mini garage it's like all the bmw people over there
05:40it's
05:40like oh yes would you like would you like tea would you like coffee would you like give
05:43you know my tongue further up your ass and the mini people were just like waiting for ages but
05:49when they realized i was on the radio we got like preferential treatment but um yeah the look
05:54of horror on most people's faces i would say nymphetamine um just because that's like
06:00our time on a track if we don't play that people revolt our fans are i'm not saying our fans
06:07are
06:07revolting or anything like that but yes um and it again another uh danny jacobs was the the director
06:16of that they wanted very simple and stylish and yeah he did it and it was like a sort of
06:22mtv
06:23fave for a long time my mum wants it played at a funeral really apparently so
06:33um but she'll be dead so we can change the track list the fifth one would be um the current
06:39single
06:39just because it's out now and it came out a week ago embodies the season in which we're in
06:45which is literally halloween today and um yeah a lot of people have said it's like a return to form
06:54it's you know it's very catchy very different um and they're really connected with the video
07:00um and i could name yeah five or six other ones prior to that but um might as well plug
07:06it hey
07:07you know you get new barrel of religion you know what that's going to be like you get a new
07:10tool album
07:11you know you know it's going to take three days out of your life
07:16and you're never going to remember one song you'll just go oh fucking hell the drums are amazing
07:20you heard the drums on this you can't remember any of the songs i don't know
07:24i think we flaunt enough with um within our genre um and mix up there's a lot of different
07:30stuff on this record there's a very slow grandiose morose song there's one that harkens back to
07:35sort of dusk sort of riffage very fast and dissection like yeah it does get a bit difficult but
07:42yeah it's a new album new songs um we're trying to give it a recording flavor as well so each
07:50one
07:50sounds different and we don't try and build them out as much as we used to um
07:57to make them stand alone a little bit more
