00:00U.S. President Donald Trump inked an initial deal with Iran to end the war he waged with Israel on
00:06the 28th of February,
00:08as the two sides work on brokering a permanent agreement.
00:11The White House appears to have agreed to major concessions despite Trump marketing the deal as a great settlement.
00:18The initial framework, which takes immediate effect calls for a permanent cessation of hostilities,
00:24eases U.S.-driven sanctions on Iran but doesn't outright eliminate them,
00:28and reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
00:31It also affirms a commitment to Lebanon's territorial integrity in the face of Israel's invasion and repeated attacks,
00:37despite an existing ceasefire in place.
00:40The deal also establishes a 60-day negotiating window to reach a conclusive resolution over Iran's disputed nuclear program,
00:48with the U.S. calling on Tehran to dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
00:53It's a dramatic step-back for Trump, who for weeks has endorsed a hard-line stance against the Islamic Republic
00:59and appeared unwilling to make much concessions to his war objectives.
01:04Those included ending Iran's ability to produce a nuclear weapon,
01:08destroying their missile and naval capabilities,
01:10bringing an end to their ability to fund proxy groups in the region,
01:14and at times even called for regime change.
01:17Trump said getting to that point was not easy as he put pen-to-paper on the deal
01:21while attending an official dinner at the Palace of Versailles
01:24at his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron's invitation.
01:29The deal was also signed by Iranian President Massoud Pazeshkian,
01:33who did not extend an official comment on its contents.
01:36Trump, however, warned that he's prepared to resume the war if Iran fails to deliver on its promises,
01:42noting that Washington will pick up where it left off if its goodwill gesture is not reciprocated.
