00:03I've charted a helicopter to take us over the ice so we can see what this looks like at scale.

00:36The ice sheet is the accumulation of snow that's built up over thousands of years.

00:43Cores have been dug down and drilled right through the ice and retrieved samples at least

00:49a hundred thousand years old.

00:52As the ice falls, the snow falls and the ice compacts, it slowly moves out to the coast

00:58to the exterior, and that's what forms the glaciers that flow down to the ocean.

01:05Just the epic scale of this sheet is incredible, it goes on for hundreds of kilometres, way

01:12up into the distance beyond the horizon, just nothing but a sea of white.
